Yo! You're on my home turf in Treichlers! Good you got video of the Mauser Mill there..as you may know it shut down last year and the company that bought it apparently wants to level it.
@CentralPennRailProductions
@CentralPennRailProductions 8 лет назад
+Eli Wilson Railroad Videos Yeah, I heard about that and it would be sad if they tore it down. I don't have any perfectly lit shots there so I may be back, but seeing 765 and H74 there is at least good enough for me (and a CP train there a long, long time ago). I'll try to let you know when I'll be back over that way, this happened to be spur-of-the-moment.

+Eli Wilson that is a shame that they want to level the Mauser Mill. I remember this as one of the H66's common stops! Must be weird for a crew familiar to the H66 to roll by there without ever stopping. I do often see the H66 with the same engineer and conductor on it, hell sometimes I even see the same people running the H74.

Excellent footage of stunning scenery, the locomotive paint-scheme and of course the horn! Btw what happened to 4k, I luved watching your video's at 1440P on my tablet? Thanks again, Darryl
@CentralPennRailProductions
@CentralPennRailProductions 8 лет назад
+denault3985 Thanks. I shoot all of my footage at HD 1080 60p at an extremely high bit-rate (50 Mbps) which almost resembles 4K. Due to camera sensor glitches I only shoot with 4K 30p at special steam events where I know the train will not exceed certain speeds. I have also been shooting CSX out in Western PA in 4K because they run slow over the mountains, but the editor simply cannot handle the amount of footage to release any videos (for example on average it takes almost 5 hours to render a 15 minute 4K video). When I get two cameras or one with an improved sensor speed that can shoot 4K at 60p without any motion jarring I'll start shooting everything in that resolution. RU-vid compresses the HD bit-rate by more than half, as far as I can tell on a big monitor with a high refresh rate (120hz or so) the 4K has only slightly improved detail in situations where it's raining, snowing, or tree leaves or locomotive exhaust, bringing out a slightly nicer detail, otherwise it's about the same.

Nice. It's cool enough getting a daylight train here in optimal light, not to mention a consist like that. I've always had an interest in this line...well, portion of the line, but like most things in this hobby, I've never really set aside the time to actually do it. I'd really love to get a few daylight trains (non LGSR) in the Gorge, although I'm sure that'd be asking a lot for a trip taken during a day or two's time lol. Is this somewhat of a normal time for 36T or was this one clearly held up along the way to give it a daylight appearance on the Upper Lehigh?
@CentralPennRailProductions
@CentralPennRailProductions 8 лет назад
+AliceInChains243 They have been fairly consistent 8-9 AM through the Gorge though they are more often earlier than that than later, but more often that not they make a daylight run down. The easiest way to tell is listen to the CP and R&N feeds early in the morning and monitor when they go through Taylor, Dupont, or Solomons Gap. For example, I left home when I heard them at Solomon's Gap and beat them to Jim Thorpe with about 5-10 minutes to spare, which for reference, was about a 90 minute drive for me.

Central Penn Rail Productions Awesome. This definitely means for a run out there sometime this year. Always wanted to land something over on those rails, it's refreshing to hear that the railroad will somewhat work with me in that regard. Still somewhat surprised that it takes them a solid hour and a half to go from Soloman's Gap to Jim Thorpe, unless of course the mileage off the top of my head between those two points is much further off than it is in reality. I'm assuming 37T on the return is typically a middle of the night move through the general area? (I really should know this seeing how closely I used to monitor D&H ops pre-NS ownership change)
@CentralPennRailProductions
@CentralPennRailProductions 8 лет назад
37T is usually very early in the morning. In fact they met at Solomons Gap on my way out the door. Mileage wise is not incredibly far from Mountaintop to Jim Thorpe, but there are a few 10 MPH's plus all the hair-pin turns. I specifically remember in the past taking 45 minutes to drive from Jim Thorpe to White Haven or vice-versa and beating the train I was chasing by a few minutes each time. Now, if they fix the 10 MPH on the bridge at White Haven (unless that's 25 MPH now, not sure?) that will surely speed things up.
@Trains21
@Trains21 8 лет назад
+AliceInChains243 Depending on which train you're chasing is the make-it-or-break-it factor in being successful in daylight.... That or just dumb luck.... 37T used to be practically impossible to catch on the Lehigh Line during daylight but over the past few weeks has gotten a little easier though it's still hit or miss.... Still more miss than hit IMHO. 36T is a little easier since it's moving south.... They both come on duty @ around the midnight hour but 36T (like 37T) has been showing up a lot later over the past few months so seeing it on the Lehigh Line in daylight is a lot more doable than it used to be. I caught this train in Scranton when it came through @ 05:25 a.m. (still dark). Here's a link to the picture that I got of it.... Hope this helps. trains21.org/train-36t-with-the-virginian-heritage-unit-1069-at-taylor-pa/

Nice catch! Why were there passenger cars on the back of the train?
@CentralPennRailProductions
@CentralPennRailProductions 8 лет назад
+maxrailroad I don't know the specific details but passenger cars can occasionally be seen being transported through here. Maybe they're new?
@Trains21
@Trains21 8 лет назад
+maxrailroad The passenger cars are coming from Bombardier near Dansville in Upstate NY. They go there for routine maintenance and minor repairs. They come from North Jersey on NS trains to Allentown Yard then go up on Train 37T (12T before the takeover of the D&H South Lines) and then back down to Allentown on 36T (like shown here in the video) and back to Jersey. This is a common move (I've seen it dozens of times) that has been going on for well over 10 years. Back in the day when 30T and 31T were Allentown to Buffalo (and back) trains, (much older) cars like these could be seen on the tail ends of those trains too. Also worthy of mention is that Maryland's MARC commuter cars have been seen making the same trip to Bombardier although they come up from Baltimore and the capitol region to Harrisburg and then up to Binghamton, NY on 14R where they're tacked onto a train heading west like 37T. Hope this helps. Trains21.org
