Part 3 - on reflection I've tried to align the real world AH64 Apache collective to the VIRPIL grip and Monstertech pilot seat, this is a second attempt with better results.
with thanks and credit to AVGEEKJOE for the IRL photo of the left side AH64 cockpit

Thank you for the video. You identified all the issues i had trying to find a good mount position. As you point out, this is often too far forward and too high in operation, which is made worse by the length (of the hypotenuse). I've been working with 3d models of the Apache cockpit for years, so finally getting a replica collective only to not have it match the ergonomics is a tad frustrating. A shorter base would help align the triangle of the thing for regular chair mounting.

ty for the comment Richard, yes I dare say you do know a thing or two about the Apache cockpit in simulators :) its just such an amazing time sims atm with the advent of high quality VR, peripherals and software... I agree with respect to the Apache grip it would be better if we could shorten the TCS Rotor base but then that would compromise the other grips, I guess what we need ultimately is a range of extensions similar to joystick bases. Hopefully Virpil watch these owner videos and come to the same conclusion...

I'm trying to find a suitable aluminum pipe, so I can make a short replacement for the original and not have it so long. Not sure why VPC does not have this as an option for the 64 grip.

@bigbangerz5856 4 месяца назад
that could be an interesting modification I'd like to see that. I guess the challenge Virpil have is the Apache grip being 1 of 3 collective grips and them not wanting to do a new TCS Rotor Base right now I bet they've thought about it though and also adding a hydraulic damper or force feedback to the collective lots of options
@user-cc4pj4qc7h
@user-cc4pj4qc7h 4 месяца назад
@@bigbangerz5856 thing is they don't need to do much to make this happen. All it takes is to put a shorter pipe on to the cheaper base (that has no throttle), and that's it, perfect base for the 64 grip. This would also eliminate the problem most people have, when you need to mount it wayyyyyyy back.

There’s an add on you can buy from Virpil that moves the collective back for the Apache grip.

Hey I have a few issues with my Apache collective dropping I have the counter balance not sure if I have a loose screw have you had similar issues?
@bigbangerz5856
@bigbangerz5856 3 месяца назад
I've not got that problem though I can imagine at some point the strength of the counter balance spring will degrade to a point it needs replacing. Remember to store the collective in its upper most position to give the spring some relief and before adding tension use the damper from the TCS base to a point you cannot feel stiction and then use the counter balance to deliver the final right amount to hold the grip in position. Some people like to add Nyogel 767a grease to the TCS base to allow more damping force without stiction... but if you have the counter balance adjusted all the way in and the collective grip is still dropping something is wrong try re-installing it and then go to Virpil support for advice is what I'd recommend.

Where did you get the plate to mount it vertical? I really need that, I have the default 90 degree one of the collective base.
@bigbangerz5856
@bigbangerz5856 4 месяца назад
It is part of a kit from Monstertech known as "COLLECTIVE CHAIR MOUNT" I'll leave a link in the description. They might sell you just the plate as a custom order you would have to ask them...

Yup, that's how I've got mine angled 👍 (except mine is on the outside of the 80/40 extrusion, so it clears the arm of the chair)

Thanks for confirming this mounting solution can be used with the arm of the chair in place :)

it can yes and you can also reverse the arm rest, but personally I recommend the 'armrest in armrest out' mod @@Spelljammer1
