Thanks for the review. I'm curious about your chair vibration pad. By the look of it, it seems to be sized for standard office chairs rather than racing seats. The seat cushion of my racing seat is about 30 cm wide so I'm guessing it would be too big to fit neatly on that?
Its a Jetseat andres.shop/jetseat/11-jetseat-kw-908-air.html Dimensions are here tried to paste the picture but it wont let me. There is another version that he modify's available now but you would have to contact him directly. I do some beta testing for it as I am an retired military pilot and thoroughly recommend it, turn off the g feeling in fixed wing aircraft and get the Alpha feedback its great in AC.
Thanks for making these videos - very informative. I have few questions: 1. what HOTAS would you recommend for both of these? 2. since you are using VKB on a Virpil desk mount - are there any desk mount adaptors for VKB base to use on desk mount?
Of the 2 sticks I like them.both availability of VKB is intermittent and unfortunately postage on the Virpil is expensive. I like them both as I said in the video you can't go wrong with either one. I adapted my warthog base to fit a VKB gunfighter base. I will put a video up this week showing what I did , it was trickier than I thought so my neighbor took it to his workshop.
Mr. Gales, Just wanted to say thanks for posting this... Thus far, it's one of the few legit vids you can find on the T-50 anywhere. Also, the tip about Andre's Jetseat mods was pure gold. The guy is awesome. Lastly, I just noticed the set of Crosswinds on your floor! Are they really as good as everyone says they are?!?
I understand. No hurry here. As matter of fact, you could do a series of videos of you setting up your home flight sim. It would be great for many new simmers thinking about getting their own setup.
VBK Stick + extension (no desk mount) is less expensive than the Virpil one. BUT the VBK desk mount is way more expensive than the Virpil desk mount. Am I right? So what's your choice? Thx
Make a video on that collective? What is it? Edit: literally found the answer about 10 seconds after posting. Your own video no less! Thanks for this video and that one.
Thanks for the review Andrew Gales This is what many people have been waiting for. I would have bought both Virpil and VKB If I missed this video. Well done! I'd like to ask a question about your experience of VKB Gunfigter pro. I can see that extended gunfighter has much wider range of motion compared to VirPil Mongoose and I wonder If it feels uncomfortable when you pull the stick all the way back as your wrist starts bending and that is something that I don't want to feel. How does it feel when you pull it back all the way? Is it uncomfortable to you?
Andrew Gales Andrew Could you please make a short video of your vkb gunfighter pro's full range of motion (left and right, push and pull) less than 30 seconds? or pictures of it's full left and right foward and back position? I do want to know of it's range of motion and how 20degrees moves when it has 20cm extension. So sorry to bothering you!!
The VKB isn't smaller, it's a modular design that needs the black box. BTW, does it come with it when you buy it? The website isn't clear about that in the list, but it mentions it on things like the rudder pedals.
It's kind of just what you are used to. I rest my hand in my lap, holding the base of the grip for long flights or close formation, an old habit that this extrnsion allows me to still do as it places the grip at the correct height.
NosTr4D4m I have it with a really soft spring so it doesnt center right now personally I dont have a favorite they both have plusses and minusses as I said in the video. Partly it would depend where you live and how much postage is 😁
My questions is: How is the material? Which one feels more solid? I'm looking for a good solid joystick made out of mostly metal. I recently received my Slaw Device pedals and they're awesome. Trying to get a joystick out of the same metal feel if possible. Thanks for the help!
They are both plastic only the Warthog sticktop is metal that I have tried and both plastic ones have have an almost identical feel' both feel good. I have a Warthog stick top which is metal and feels more realistic however in practical terms I actually prefer the 2 plastic ones , for a start in Winter I used to have to wear gloves when using the Warthog ( White leather flying ones ;) ) and you have a lot of extra buttons and the brake axis is great in the L39 and Mig 21. You could buy a "replacement" Warthog stick only from Thrustmaster and then get a Virpil or VKB base .
Omfg the setup is real :O How do you like those MFGs down there, hey?? I'm waiting for mine to arrive :DDD How do these two compare to the TM Warthog base?
I like both bases better than the warthog base which has too hard a center. I love the mfgs much better for helo flying than the saiteks they replaced.
hello Andrew Gales You have a great video! I want to show 10 seconds of your video and give a link to your channel. This will be for the Russian-speaking community. Do you agree?
It can cause Cof G problems if you use weak springs for helo flying, personally I think a straight one is just that much easier, but yea it looks cool.
Yeah, it might be worth waiting to see what they're all about but at the end of the day, the MCG with twist adapter is everything I want in a stick. Not sure what else they could offer me that would sway my decision but I've got a few months till I'll be ready to upgrade anyways.
Andrew Gales Thanks! Pricewise they’re about the same, but completely different designs. Each has pros/cons, that’s why it’s hard to make a decision. The VPC mounts seems to be more portable though. Are there any cons to the VPC mounts?
The only con would be that you have to use virpil or the warthog controls and that the setup has to be pretty permanent it would be a pain. I do have my vkb permanently mounted to the desk mounts but it was a lot harder than I expected and my neighbor did a fair amount of milling to get it all to fit. That's why I didn't make a video about it because the solution I used would only be available if you had a workshop. If anyone here needs information about it let me know tho.
Andrew Gales My plan is to get the TM Warthog Stick/throttle and mounts/stand for it. I will add a better base for the grip, eventually ;) Have been flying the PMDG 737 NG almost exclusively, but tempted to try DCS/carrier ops :)
I have zero on the resistance screw. And I am running 70 lbs with the extension so it's very soft. The stick does center itself but only just. I like it that way as it make formation way easier and I run 0 dead zone on everything.
Both are great as I said it depends what you want to prioritize, the adjustable friction of the VKB or the external adjustment of the Virpil, probably not the answer you want it also depends if you already have a thrustmaster warthog stick top, VKB don't have a MCG stick top yet so the only option is the WW2 style KG12, their MCG is promised in a couple of months so I am afraid time is also a factor.
I have the Glad PRO mk1 and Warthog here. Im looking for a new base because I want to extend it. (il2 just too sensitive without extension with my fine motor skills ;)) If they are alike then I will go VirPil, just because its available now, and cheaper too. Id like to ask tho, Did you try the Warthog top on the VirPil base? Afraid the stick will be so top heavy aswell with the extension and ill have to use to strong of a spring force, but its worth a shot I think. Anothjer option might be just extending my warthog with a VirPil extension and desk mount, I dont find the Stick bad at all (except for isolating Axis, it kinda wants to rotate with the gimbal in there...) Choices, choices.... Thanks for replying!!
I didn't try the Warthog on the Virpil base as my Warthog has the adapter in it for use on the VKB base. Virpil postage is high in the US so their costs are very similar here. I used the extension on my Warthog to start with and it was a good solution while waiting for the sticks to come out, my Warthog was 5 years old so it was rather worn.
Ah yes obviously. Mine is rather new, although i bought it Refurb from TM (only 150euros) I modded the springs with washers abit and it feels quite good compared to VKB. Question is if the gimbal will develop sticktion after more use (mostlikely yes I suppose). Gonna go ahead and see if I can get the VKB sold and order mounts and extension from VirPil, Can upgrade to full stick from them later on :))
what's the difference between VPC MongoosT-50 base and TM Warthog Base ? which one is better ? And how would you compare the Thrustmaster Warthog stick vs MongoosT 50 ? I mean only the stick itself, no base Thank you
I assume he means using heavy grips can make it a bit more difficult to distinguish finer movements and therefore lead to less precision. Increased fatigue may be a factor as well, but it probably depends on use case.
Originally it was TM Warthog base plate. Marked out the pattern on the base to match the holes in the VKB used a Bench press drill to drill it. Used a grinder to open the hole so the wire would fit through the base plate attachment. That was it but it was done in a machine shop .
Ok you need a specialist adapter and you have to modify the grip it is not too difficult they cost about 40$. It then slots into the VKB base like any other VKB grip.
You need to put the VKB adapter in the Warthog stick top. It will then connect to the base and then you simply load the TMW software in the VKB software into the base.
@@xtwixxbydesign The Virpil stick tops use the Warthog design and are inter changeable. I don't think you can put a VKB adapter in a virpil stick though
Thanks, i just looked, and the collective + base is 1000 GBP + VAT and shipping? Thats just insane, for that price it have to 100% realistic with every button and feature in the highest quality money can buy, not just "good enough" or "close enough"
