That's brilliant! Today is launch day for the Virpil ACE-Torq pedals but, this mod serves more than one purpose on the hardware I already have. Might just try this. Hope 2022 is off to a good start for you! Cheers.
Thank you for your comment. Yes the new pedals are very interesting, if you fly helicopters or Russian aircraft (They have wheelbraking on the flightstick).
Just finished with this today and flew around in the Apache on DCS. So I forgot to buy some M5 screws and nuts, they're arriving tomorrow. For now I've used M4 with two nuts on either side of the leg. I also flipped the rubber leg upside down just to secure itself against the nut. In terms of the damper, it's amazing. It's good to be able to set it to a position and give some micro adjustments when flying, rather than working against the springs.
That's awesome, great video! I had a similar idea, but you beat me to it :) I am currently working on a Cyclic stick project and hopefully get my first video up before Christmas. Best wishes to you as well!
Well, I’ve tried this with two different dampers, one off eBay, and then bought the MFG kit for their pedals, that one was better, but both have far too much stiction to be usable, tried some spray on lithium lubricant but only helped a little bit. I lose all fine control with the damper on because of the stiction so can’t use it, so this sucks.
Hi WhiteHawk, I have also found that most steering dampers are to restrictive for use on our stuff. Especially the china versions, I am using these as well on my own projects. However, I found a fix for that issue. You can change the "stiction" of steering dampers by replacing the oil inside with a less viscosity type. I have found that most dampers have a 15w oil inside. You can change to a 10w and that's what I did and now everything works fine. There are plenty of videos on RU-vid on how to change or replace it. Look for videos on how to fix steering dampers. I purchased my oil from Amazon, it's called Lucas Oil 10772 Synthetic Fork Oil 10wt. Medium. You can try lower weight ones too. Hope that helps.🙂
@@crashmetwice thanks for the reply, but are you sure a lower weight oil will do anything to the level of stiction? Because I don’t know how that’s possible. It will change the amount of pressure needed when travelling sure and yes these motorcycle dampers need to be at minimum setting or close to it to be good for this type of application but the oil itself can’t really create stiction I wouldn’t have thought. Seems to me that it’s the shaft and or the disc inside touching the casing that causes this which is why when I applied the lithium spray lub it did make a difference, just not enough to make it good enough and manufacturing variances of these cheap dampers explains why some get good results from this and some don’t.
@@WhiteHawk77 Well, all I can say is that it did the trick for me. I may have different dampers then you do but mine have zero "Stick". I got mine from Ali and paid about 30 bucks for each incl. shipping. They are from the "AFNCX Motorcycle Sticker Store" if this helps. Using thinner oil has less resistance that is correct. Thinner oil also get's the damper quicker going, at least on mine. Maybe just the taken apart and re-assemble helped. I don't know. This was just a suggestion because it worked for me. You results may differ from mine.
