Man, I always wanted one of these, but I didn't have a PS3 at the time. I had a 360, and while I had Virtua Fighter 5, Sega didn't release a 360 version of this stick for it. We had to settle for a cheap Hori stick, not even an HRAP. To me, this stick felt like a spiritual successor to the Namco Arcade Stick, with its minimalist color layout and compact size. Great video as usual, man. I came across one of your videos, and now I'm finding myself marathoning the whole lot. You've some great editing skills, you come across confident and likable on camera, and you clearly know what you're talking about. I hope your channel blows up, man.
This stick truly is legendary and influenced some others to come like the amazing MadCatz VS and maybe even the Hori Fighting Stick V3. Man, I want one of these now to mod with a retro board and seimitsu LS-32.
This is such a fascinating stick. At first glance it doesn't look very flashy; however, that doesn't seem to be the point with this stick. It is about its build quality. I haven't seen it in person but thinking about picking one up. I've become accustomed to the Namco Noir button layout so the stick and button placement are a bit of a hangup for me. Great work on the mod, and great content!
I have this one. I bought it brand new maybe 15 years ago. I was fucking disappointed by the bugs..... BUT, it is simply my favorite stick about quality and design. I've never used it because the malfunction but it's time to get it out his box and swap his PCB. 😎 I've almost forgotten I had it, this video pushes me to update it! Thanks!
Nice... I just ordered two of these... one is pretty much new with the box and virtual fighter 5 it came with. Ive wanted them since I have seen them years ago. First thing I noticed though is the stick is too close to the buttons which would have been nicer if they were spread apart a little bit.
I just picked up one of these in Japan for 50 bucks and I love it. The thing clocks in at 3,6kg so I gotta watch that luggage weight but its totally worth it, those stock Sanwa parts are super nice and jesus it doesnt move at all when you play. Great video, it convinced me this was the stick I wanted to buy, thanks man
Scanline City I am doing som serious shopping on my trip to japan and I’m coming back with about 9 sticks 😀 I saw the VSHG loose yesterday for 35$. Had to “splurge” 50$ on a SFC Hori fighting stick but it’s the one that a sanwa stick and buttons will drop in. I love this place, I come once a year. Your videos have helped me a bunch with the hunting
The new Astro City Mini Arcade Stick mold looks awfully similar to this. Would love if you did a review for one of those and compared it to the Virtua Stick High Grade.
i just bought one, and yes it looks/feels the same! the one little difference is that the top artwork doesnt feel like metal to the touch. I also would love to see a comparsion video. Its been a loooong time since i tried the virtua stick high grade.
Been watching your videos again... and I just bit the bullet on a VSHG Long over due on picking this legendary stick up Going to dual mod it with a Brook UFB and a Retro Board! This baby will be my prime stick for all my consoles!! Thank you for the huge influence!!
Also just a comment, but in your "legacy" sections I wish you talked about sticks that were influenced by the stick you're talking about, e.g. this was an inspiration for the eTokki Omni.
Never even knew this existed. Nice. I think they missed it by not making that as the “city” 2P panel layout. More comfy tilt to it. My personal opinion of course, I’m sure everyone has THE layout that they think is best.
@@ScanlineCity Thank You very much sir, that will definitely be appreciated and I'm anxiously looking forward to that episode now! There was also a similar one called a Real Arcade PS, which wasn't full on squared, but more oval squared, but it was pretty much the same! I have all of these Hori sticks BTW! Thanks Again!
Well.. you know your subject and that is refreshing ! My version is an S revision.... and it works well. I think I like the "new" 8 buttons joysticks more : it's easier to play Neo geo games with those joysticks.
Do you happen to have close-up pictures of all the modding you've done with this? I want to order a UFB, but I'm a newb with that stuff and the daughter board and usb hole in particular will probably test whatever skill I have. Thanks!
just discovered your channel and I love your content. Is it hard to fit the jlf in it and do you think the hori hayabusa can fit either with or without a mounting plate?
i love this stick but it has a major fault for me, not enough room under the buttons to rest your hand totally on top of the stick itself and alot of wasted space on the left of the joystick :(
Coming from a guy with wide shoulders and big hands I completley understand that! However, it seems that many people prefer that short edge for palm rest and spacing from buttons to joystick. Personal preference I suppose...but I'm on board with you - Dreamcast Agetec is my favorite in terms of palm rest and buttons to joystick spacing.
Check out the brook ps3/ps4 to ps2 super converter. It allows you to use ps3 and ps4 sticks on a ps2. It works great...I'll probably do a video on it when I have time. Otherwise perhaps you want to install a brook retroboard or even a ps360. Lots of options...feel free to ask me any questions
Another thing to remember is that the stock pcb that comes with this stick is one of the few that works with ps2 games on ps3 consoles using backwards compatibility.
@@ScanlineCity man i can't thank you enough i bought the brook converter and bam worked right away. also i bought a hori fighting edge ps3 edition and didn't work with my my ps2 games on my ps3 bc but i had a playtech ps2 to ps3 adapter laying around combined with the brook converter and bam now i can play all my ps2 fighting games on my backwards compatible ps3
