It will encourage a car culture which failed in Los Angeles 70 years ago. We still have the diesel pollutants and noise to contend with. And where is the Doncaster Rail promised by the Hamer Government in the 1970s?
Or the airport rail link, first proposed in 1958? They did actually start on the Doncaster rail. At one time there was a huge hole at the Hoddle St end of the Eastern Freeway. That was beginning but, of course, it stopped there. Don’t know why.
@@jaewardtattoo you must be joking? The online consultation process was trolled by a number of people from the Eltham area who made sure they got opposers to route 1 banned from making any comments. It was a disgrace. Why on earth would anyone choose a route which will push more traffic onto the Eastern Fwy city bound to a bottleneck at Hoddle St? The whole thing is just one big joke and its not a proper ring road because it will bring more traffic into the affected area. Its completely politically based and a farce. Greensborough to Ringwood is the natural route for this road and the logical one. The present ALP govt. and past ALP govts. have made some very silly choices and the first ones that come to mind are the South East Arterial with traffic lights of the Cain years and the selling off of the Doncaster Rail reserved land by the same govt. in the mid 80s. Absolutely dumb.
@@jdnly9716 it's still the same amount of people heading to the city, it's not going to make a difference at Hoddle St, just the way people get to Hoddle St, I still can't understand how you think this is more destructive upgrading existing major roads then building a brand new freeway through St Helena, diamond Creek, warrendyte and templestowe

I'm not that stupid I've used that route for decades and don't need anyone telling me something ridiculous. Option A Is the wrong choice and blind Freddy would know placing a massive ring road/ freeway in the middle of astablished suburbs INWARDS of a proper "RING" is the most stupid decision. You come across the same as the trolls from Eltham on the public consultation website a few years ago. No way known u will convince me in any way.

10 years from now it will feel like an absolute bargain. There were similar complaints when they built East Link and City Link and looking back at those projects through 2024 eyes and they cost the state next to nothing compared to what they would cost now. The real shame is that this project wasn't done 20 years ago. The longer it takes to start these infrastructure projects the higher the costs get over time.
