It's actually quite a sensible thing to say. If the mark buys it, it confirms that they are both gullible and technically illiterate. Anyone they can't eventually scam is likely to drop off at that point and save them time.

@@JimBrowning I find your videos highly educational and helpful. I've never fallen victim to this but I can spot scams more easily. I've shared your videos before. I learned about scambaiting because of you and I sleep better at night knowing people like you do this. Telling you to not share the videos because more scammers will see them than potential victims is like saying you shouldn't warn people about the dangers of kidnapping because more kidnappers will see it than potential victims....its almost is like Transferwise knows their customers are scammers and exposing them hurts their bottom line. If it were a company like PayPal they'd probably want their customers to at least pretend-believe they care about fraud. Question, off topic: You obviously share what you capture, but how many do you miss in the course of a day/week/month?

Yea. i think that, yes, a video like this can reveal mistakes that a scammer made and that, yes, they could use it to stop making those mistakes. But the amount of people that get helped from these videos is much greater. Iv seen so many people in comments talking about how they couldn’t persuade family members to see that they were being scammed but when they show them the videos, it finally clicks. It’s a fine line to walk of ‘does it help or hurt more?’ And I don’t think Jim does anything to help scammers other than showing obvious flaws in their scams

@@sirgreedy88 I can assure you it's not to check to see if the police are there. No police in the UK are looking for scammers in India. The argument given you that posting this video might provide a tutorial to scammers shows a complete lack of understanding about security and fraud prevention. The fact of the matter is that any potential scammers already know how to scam you. It's an extremely competitive industry, and the are no real secrets, only ignorant victims. It's the scammers who don't want their methods shown.

Their real reason is "it would hurt our business if people associated us with these scams and we are choosing not to do anything to really stop them because we can profit off them while pleading to be an innocent third party." If they wanted to stop them, they could.

Exactly. They take home cold hard cash via commission, namely the 30 GBP for an 8k transfer. That scales very nicely and they don't care if it's legit or not, because when is a scam, the credit card company/bank is going to be the one who has to deal with the issue.

Yep. There’s no secret special method that’s going to net you more victims. In fact I’ve heard from some people that the stupider the scam, the better, because then only truly un-knowing people will fall for it, so you’re not wasting your time scamming people who will figure it out halfway through. Therefore the idea that you’re somehow creating “tutorials” for scammers seems ridiculous to me. Knowledge is power. And your videos have given me more knowledge and proof to help inform the people around me who might be susceptible to these scams. Keep at it Jim!

They claim potential victims will never see the video with absolutely nothing backing up that claim. They aren't law enforcement so I don't think they're in a position to give out such advice. This happened last month. One thing people got used to here in Brazil as well is the old idea that "Videogames damage TVs", and its the kind of stuff that the elderlies are bound to believe, since they don't have much idea of how a computer really works.

Ah memories! The title caught my eye. I was one of the very first people to use VISA in India, about 4 decades ago - with the bank of Hyderabad. At the time I was travelling round the country and running a bit low on cash, saw an advert for this *new* VISA and thought I'd use my Barclaycard (from London) to get some cash. I went into the big branch in what was then the city of Madras. They had no paperwork or process yet in place for this new-fangled credit card, they'd never done it before. But the manager invited me into his office, rang the Head Office in Hyderabad, got instructions over the phone and wrote out by hand. I got my rupees and was on my way. How things have changed now! That's what "progress" means..

It doesnt seem particularly arrogant to me. perhaps a little stand-offish. But I'd be MORE concerned if they started giving out information on their anti-scam methods just because someone contacted them. That really shouldnt be open to the public. If they wanted the video down for their own benefit, they could have just threatened him with legal action for attempting to smear their name. all they did was give a warning, that isn't that unreasonable. It really isn't their fault if gullible people believe "we blacked out your screen because of the radiance" and "I'm sending you a code, what is that code please sir?" TransferWise has some standard checks in place, ID documents, SMS verification. What more do you exactly expect? Bloodsamples? It's not like WesternUnion where all you need is to know the persons name.

I work with Indians who are technically excellent and entirely decent. It still sets off inner alarm bells though when I hear one of them say, "each and every ..." That's just conditioning from listening to scammers. It's important to remember there are both decent and villainous people all over the world.

I hate getting them over the phone even if they're legit... mainly because I never call support unless it's something I can't do on my own, and my requests are usually complex. I run into language barrier issues all the time because of it.

Hello Jim. I really appreciate what you are doing. I am from India and I came to know about these scammers when one of my close relative was scammed. I would like to tell you that there are not just a handful of scammers in this country. Every year about half a million engineers graduate in this country. These so called technically educated engineers are completely unemployable, and lack any practical or field experience, thus ending up jobless. These jobless engineers in the name of " start up " calling themselves so called " entrepreneurs" create fraud companies scamming innocent people, especially in US. They target US and other English speaking countries because first due to our education system we end up quite fluent in the English language and second because even if these scammers end up scamming one person a week they end up getting $100 which in India is about 7000 rupees (at the time of this comment) which is quite decent 1week salary in our country. The government authority also take very little intrest in cases from other countries when there are 1000s of cases of scammers everyday within our country itself. Even then I deeply appreciate the work you and many other RU-vidrs like you are doing. I would like people to share these videos to as many people as possible especially older people who are the prime target of these scammers. At last, you are doing a great job. Keep making videos like these.👍
