Description of the visual pathway from the retina to the lateral geniculate nucleus of the thalamus. Includes description of lateral inhibition and how this creates the illusion of mach bands. The magnocellular and parvocellular systems are introduced, as is the concept of receptive fields and center-surround antagonism.
