In this POV street photography video, we head to the amazing city of Brighton, on the south coast of the UK, not far from the capital, London.

Brighton is a must-visit for tourists and photographers alike. Whether you need an exciting city break full of vibrance and character, or a cool destination for your street photography, you are guaranteed to love Brighton! Especially if the weather is good. The perfect #staycation location!
I feel my street photography is evolving. I'm finding myself very much drawn to photographing different types of images, and adopting new styles, with long term projects in place.
I really enjoy photographing strangers and feel it helped improve my street photography. Learning street photography was one of the best ways I've improved my photography. One of the biggest tips I can give anyone to improve their street photography is to explore other sub-genres of street photography, you could be walking down the wrong path :-)
I hit the streets of Brighton with my Fujifilm X-T4, and the amazing 'kit lens'. For this style of street photography, coupled with a godox v860 flash I was able to photograph some amazing subjects with a stunning pop to the images.
In this video, I venture out to the city of Brighton to capture the vibrance and character of this incredible city! Brighton offers a vast array of interesting shops to check out, after which you can choose from the enormous amount of pubs and restaurants available! Can you tell I enjoyed Brighton haha! I'm sure you will too! It's a must-visit if you're looking for a cool UK #staycation :-)

That's not a fair, or accurate, description of Brighton any more. Maybe 50 years ago, when that corny tag-line first stuck, but not now. London has become a characterless, soulless, desperate, theme-park of a place. Brighton has an incredibly concentrated population of people who live outside of "the norm". I don't imagine many Brighton residents would trade for a life in London.

Cool post, sterling pics, Gareth. Elegant gents taking coffee, something special. Lady reading book, framed several ways - nice. Split screen image and vid scene works well. Great video. Brighton is the easiest place to get started as a Street Photographer, because most interesting characters are only to willing to pose, and tell you their story. I happened to encounter the stand-by drummer from The Clash and a guy making hats from recycled plastics. Don't sneak photos of them...have a chat, get to know them. What's the worst that can happen? They say "no thanks"? Big deal. We have a flat 5 miles along the coast. It's a Mecca for any aspiring street photographers.... as well as anyone looking for an amazing long weekend break. It's unlike anywhere else.

Have you thought have adding the Godox xpro trigger instead of the pocket wizzard? It would give you high speed sync capability and mean you can shoot flash at up to 1/8000 and negate the need for an ND filter in most cases and the receiver on the bottom of the flash!?

Love the pictures. Brighton is probably my favourite place in the world for street photography. I like the way that your using flash, but I’m wondering why you used the ND to keep the sync speed down. The flash that your using has high speed sync which allows you to use flash at Upton 1/4000 sec (Using a Godox trigger). Of course, the other reason that you may use the ND is to underexpose the ambient exposure, but that can be accomplished but using exposure compensation of the flash. Not a criticism, I just wasn’t sure if your were aware of HSS. Just saying. Keep up the great work.

thanks david.. i dont use HSS i prefer normal unless needed.. so id rather use 1/250. if you saw my other vid i explain my flash settings more.. its not a ttl or hss trigger.. so no the flash wont do exposure comp as it wont know what the cameras doing. Do remember theres more than one way to use a flash.. this is the way i like to shoot and the pics came out great so im happy. thank for watching, sorry you feel i used my flash wrongly.

Cracking video Gareth. Did you consider using the X100V with the leaf shutter to avoid having to use the ND (you have one of those right?) I guess with the TCL it would be the same FOV

The 18-55 kit lens is as far as kits lenses go's a really good lens, I recently shot a load of phots for my Masters degree project using this lens all at F8 and the level of sharpness is just wow.

@@GarethDanks Yeah I think F8 is the sweet spot for that lens, for a lot of lenses actually. It's the only autofocus lens I have for my X-T4, I use a lot of adapted vintage M42/FD/PK lenses.

I always use electrical or masking tape....... Anything to stick my settings so I never nock them from where I want them! Also allows you to adjust if needed :-)

I love my kit lens that came with my Canon... mainly becase I am a hobbyist with a low budget, and although comapred to proprietry lenses cheap ones are cheaper, they still aren't always affordable for a chap like me that makes no money from it.

Whenever I need to lock my settings and focus...... I always use tape to secure any rotating dials and lenses that I really don't want to move :-)

Hey it’s cool to see it from someone who isn’t local and good that you had an enjoyable time!. Did you experience many verbal attacks, abuse or people making nasty remarks etc!. A huge caution about Brighton avoid taking cameras near the beach not even necessarily on the beach!. As Brighton has many real real lunatic left wing people who think they have the right to grab your camera or even lob huge stones and even bottles at people with cameras. (Obviously don’t be creepy and take photos of people sunbathing as that’s just weird). This summer I saw a two photographers taking a photo of a few seagull flying towards the pier, they a man & woman were standing on the shore of the beach, not facing any sunbathers etc. It was at that point a group of feminists and “liberals” started swearing at them calling them perverts and proceeded to literally stone them & one even launched a glass bottle at them!. Furthermore I was walking through the laines with my camera on my gimbal when I suffered threatening abuse from small group going what the fing hell is that, fing thing, fxcking tw1t needs his face smashed etc! Literally for just walking filming a short video clip of the different shops in the Laines!. So yes Brighton might seem all lovely and nice but be extremely careful where you take photos & videos!. There is a significant number of very threatening, aggressive people who will not think twice about smashing your camera and hitting you in the face with a bottle for taking a photo vaguely in their direction!. Sorry to be a bit negative I just feel a duty to warn people!.

@@GarethDanks hey no I worries I know it really is a shame it's just horrible!. I saw one of your video yesterday in Wales I think it was. Where security came and harassed you on an apparently 'private outside shopping centre Street"!. One threory I have is many people have very boring unfulfilled lives, going to the shops, sitting in the pub, eating out eat sleep repeat. Hence when they see someone doing something different, with a camera etc etc they either stare, take the p1ss, say something sarcastic, say something argumentative or get verbally or physically aggressive!. It's a real real shame I'm not surprised I read arrivals into the UK are down 87%!. I'd leave the UK tomorrow if could.
