Wolter, thank you for setting the standard of travel videos on youtube. When I go to a new place, I'm happy when I find a video you made about it.

Please do not forget the unique architect Victor Horta. Though major buildings designed by him were demolished, there are still plenty to see 5often Unesco heritage) - Waucquez Department store (now comics museum), his own house, and top of the bill the Solvay House (on appointment)

The train ride to Waterloo may be only 20 to 30 minutes but either Waterloo or Braine - L'alleud (closer) train stations are actually far away from the battle site. You'll need to take a TEC bus too.

Well, one of my favourites is the music instruments museum (MIM). They have the collection of instruments from around the world, with as a few top pieces half the collection of Adolphe Sax (inventor of the saxophone), the harmonica of Toots Tielemans and old instruments from the days of Bach, Beethoven and Mozart to the synthesizer of the 80's. Quite interesting for music fans.

Just next to the Atomium there is a Mini Europe Park. My bad luck it was closed when I was there, unfortunately.

Did you visit the Magritte Museum? It's cool -- you travel from top to bottom -- and the art is a bit more interesting than just another "old art" European museum. I was somewhat surprised it was not in your list ;) A bit tough to find, however -- took my friend and I almost an hour walking in circles, even though it's right by all the other good museums.

It's part of the Fine-Arts-Museum, and shares the entrance, if I'm correct. Anyway, they will be able to point you in the right direction. The Musical Instruments Museum (in the magnificent building with Old England, shown in one of the photos) is quite good, too, even if their sound installation is getting old. Almost none of the old Sennhauser headphones is still working, and the other ones are not as good. If you like art nouveau (in other countries also called Jugendstil, Sezession or Modern Style) you might want to visit the Horta Museum in St-Gilles. A little bit off the beaten path, but quite interesting. Most art nouveau buildings are outside the Pentagone, anyway. If you want to visit an authentic Lambic brewery, you can visit Cantillon. It's not a museum, they still make beer there, old style! In 2017, the Museum for Middle Afric will reopen, they're now closed for renovation. A fantastic collection of African art, fauna and flora, and set in a beautiful park, at the end of an equally beautiful Tram line 44. You'll pass the tramway museum as well! Koekelberg has the biggest art déco church in the world, it's the green cupola you can see from almost anywhere. An interesting building, even if not anybody will like it. The Palais de Justice is an interesting an impressive building (and scaffolding, who are almost as old as the building itself, by now), but a little rundown. It's huge, and from the square in front, you have a view over the city centre. If you like flea markets, the most well known (also among tourists) is the one on Place du Jeu de Balles/Vossenplein, especially un Sundays. It's worth a visit!

It's very funny your sights choice. I'm french and we go in Brussels, it's to drink beer, eat french fries with mussels, eat waffles and visit the european parliament (also see the mannequin Pis fountain).

Do you recommend to have rental car to travel to different cities in Belgium or public transportation is good enough?
@grouloulle

Lots of trains, for a good price. Bruges in one hour, antwerp 1/2 hour
@flitsertheo

Some Belgian cities are VERY car-unfriendly, in particular Gent, Antwerpen and Brussels. Belgian roads are very busy at any time with traffic jams and road works everywhere. You don't want to be caught by the many speed-traps either. Take public transport instead, it's pretty decent when they are not on strike.

Well, they have an impresive collection of beers, but their main focus is tourists, and you'll know it. It's quite expensive, you will hardly see any Belgians there (I live in Brussels, and I've been there twice), and I'm not a big fan of the fake old tavern style. A little less choice, but with more small brands you won't find elsewhere are Moeder Lambic or Biercircus (they do a fine beer cuisine as well!), still quite pricy, but I like them better. Or you just go to almost any café in town, and they will have at least a lager, a white, a kriek, one or 2 abbey styles, Palm or something likewise, and probably a Flemish old red, like Rodenbach. There are some nice bars in town with a better-then-average choice, just give a shout if you want a concise list of them.

If you're not drinking Lambic in Brussels you're doing your trip wrong

Enjoy some Delirium Tremens when you are there. If you head over to Ghent out side is Lochristi where Brewery De Proef is, one of my fav's for Belgian Beer as well as Von Steinberg where they make Gulden Draak. Cheers!

The name is Van Steenberge ;) Other good beers in the genre are Karmeliet, Omer, Duvel (probably available in almost any Belgian bar), Hopus, all being reasonably easy to find in a good bar. Harder to find are beers from breweries such as Ste-Hélène, Rûlles, de la Senne, De Ranke, or the traditional gueuzes such as Cantillon, 3 Fonteinen, Oud-Beersel, Girardin and others. Yes, I like my beers hoppy or sour :D

The comic strip walls are not considered graffiti. As the comics they are considered an artform in Europe. Brussels has 2 comics museums too.

Brussels not only has a peeing boy and girl, it also has a peeing dog statue. The dog is a "Zinneke" (= bastard dog) which is also a nickname for the local population. Brussels people are also known as "kiekenfretters" (= chicken hoggers) but that's another story.

Tourism isn't down anymore. After an attack, Belgians stand up, clean up the mess , commemorate the people that have been lost, continue life as usual and blow the brains out of the next one who tries something similar, like that wannabe-terrorist at the Central Station.

The North Station if I want to punish myself going to work on foot + train + shuttle bus. Despite traffic jams by car I still get home way faster and easier.

Safer than the US really? :o I've never lived in the US so I wouldn't know. But I've lived in Brussels for over 10 years now (coming from Montreal before that) and I've seen from my own eyes stuff and heard some messed up things on the news 😅 Also this was filmed before the attack so I guess nobody would agree on that today... Brussels got a lot of bad media for having the "brains" of the Paris attacks live here. Anyway I feel like it's a city worth visiting (the right way ofc, do some research before hand) but it's not the prettiest, safest, cleanest of European cities BUT it is officially the capital of Europe so that's something to be proud to say that you've visited ☺️ PS: the food's great, just be careful with those touristy trap restaurants
