COVER that wristband as well!!!! It allows local vendors to know which resort you are at, and they then use that information to pretend to work at that resort and pretend to know you.
Hey. Thanks for the tip. I'll be traveling to Cancun next month. Do you have any suggestions on how to cover the wristband if I'm not wearing long sleeves?
Pay with pesos!!! if you pay with dollars they charge you more , They take the dollars and give you way less in pesos. You end up paying double! They take advantage of tourist .
Exactly. I was about to write the same thing. I was in Cozumel and a couple asked what was the conversion rate at the restaurant and they said 17 pesos per dollar when the banks are closer to 20
Hi I'm Mexican and I live in Cancun, i just wanted to say thanks for the real opinions and suggestions you give because at the end we want tourists to have an amazing time here, thank you for helping them and us!
For me whats one of the most beautiful experience in my life. Love the people, the food the service, the luxury , the humbleness of everybody Great Experience:)
I’d want to add: skip the taxi all together. Take the local buses. They’re about 10% of what taxis charge. For snacks and drink to have at the hotel, go to the centro and pick all this stuff at the supermarket. And, don’t be afraid to ask the locals about anything. I find everyone in Mexico to be very friendly and hospitable.
@@brittneysharpe3842Been to Cancun four times. Always use public transportation. Never had any issues. But, I guess one can get robbed on buses... anywhere.
Please mention do not throw the immigration paper given in the plane when u first arrive there. They will asked for it before u check in on ur departure. If u don't have it, they make u replace it for $35 per person!!! Don't don't don't throw it away!!!
Absolutely good tip. I had to pay for mine when i thought I lost it in Cancun. It was in my bag and they found it in my bag Mexico City when going thru mexican customs.
At arrival at the airport, if you have already your transport sorted, do not say to time share people "no gracias", "no thank you", or "I have transport already". It's wrong. The best what you can say is nothing!!! If you make any contact with them they will not let you go. Don't say anything, don't even look at them, just ignore them, and keep going.
I made the timeshare mistake one time in my life... it was great learning experience. Never again am i going to waste a entire day of my hard paid vacation to listen to a car salesman try selling you garbage for hours and hours.
You are TOTALLY correct. I live in Cancun and it’s so annoying when I’m there because since I’m American I always get hassled to buy things. I tell everyone who visits me KEEP WALKING. Don’t worry about being rude just walk past them or look the other way even if they are in your face.
I went to Cancun this summer and I went on an airplane for the VERY FIRST TIME and that terrifying but safe flight was totally WORTH IT. Cancun is such a beautiful place and it’s a perfect place for a family to go to
ATM tips: Definitely use the ATM for pesos but NEVER get USD. So, if offered to be charged in pesos, select yes. If you see CPC (cardholder preferred currency), do not accept. Also, do not accept any conversion rate. You may see "guaranteed conversion" or "lock in conversion" or DDC (dynamic conversion). Always select proceed without conversion. And please use a major bank ATM...not a stand alone with names like Cashzone, Cashpoint, MoneyBox, etc.
+Wolters World Should reiterate, the above tips are for certain airport ATMs that are kind of complicated. If you use a national bank ATM, you simple insert card, enter PIN, you'll know it's automatically in pesos because the numbers are so large, select your amount, accept service charge between $33 to $40 MXN, decline the donation request...that's it! So easy. Better rates than exchange houses as well. 👍👍
We were so lucky to be able to visit the Yucatán peninsula with a guide who knew the history of the Maya - going to Uxmal, Chichen and the tower at Tulum. This vanished culture has left massive architectural structures. Please tip your local guides!
@@lemnatins1434 you don't need a tour for all of them, some are expensive and you don't get much you can't get online. I recommend 1 for Calakmul though. The best sites in my opinion are Pelenque, Monte Alban, Calakmul and Uxmal. Chicken Itza is impressive but much busier, more expensive and less impressive after seeing everything else (still impressive though). Kohunlich, whilst small, has some really impressive features and is near Calakmul. Teotehuacan is another must see, but is just as busy as Chichen Itza.
I grew up travelling as my dad was military. Your videos are accurate as far as addressing the culture. I say that because I haven't been to all the places you have but many of as I see in your videos. I think the best thing tourist can do, especially US citizens, is to never act superior. The saying "When in Rome" applies. Accept their way as you are in their area. I think a rude tourist is one that expects communities to serve them and their wants because they are willing to spend a few dollars. Be humble and appreciative of your surroundings.
I always take dollars and exchange them at one of the kiosks in La Isla (mall). They have the best rates that I've found. The catch is, you can only exchange $1500 USD per month in Mexico and it's tracked using your passport. Drug money and all.
wow now that i been to Cancun i finally give some advice 😂 But this is really my personal advice because every family is different. But for my family a mistake i constantly see a lot is that, They try to do everything in a single day. So the entire day we are constantly moving, and eating and going to different locations over and over again. If u are staying in Cancun for 5 to 4 days then take one day off. A day where u just get to enjoy Cancun in your Hotel and sit back and relax. Go to your hotel’s pool or spa and relax. Give ur self time to breath. Idk i personally get overwhelmed by all the places we go to. Also if ur not use to the hot weather in Cancun, Don’t use the public restrooms. Especially in summer 🤦🏿♂️ It will burn u alive 💀
Really? I have family who stays in the jungle, like a 4 hour drive from the tourist area. Never been harassed by the cops or any body, but then again I had locals w me.
A lot of corrupt police and cartels in Mexico but in areas like Cancun they understand what tourism does for that economy over there. Tourist spend a lot of money over there including on drugs. So they take care of the tourist over there but outside it’s totally different.
Haha I was driving inside the hotel zone and still got "robbed" by the cops. He said I was speeding and asked me to pay cash otherwise he will impound my car LOL. But I have also gone out of hotel zones multiple times to tourism sites, and most of times you are absolutely fine.
Great tips. I’ve been to Cancun many times and tell first timers all these things all the time. There is also confusion about the immigration and customs forms you usually fill out on the plane. DON'T lose the second half of your immigration form. You will need it to get out of Cancun. It will cost you if you need to replace it.
This is so true. No one told us and we didn't even know we had the form in our suitcase and at the airport they charged us to leave without it. Still ridiculous to have extra forms to leave. If it was a security issue they wouldn't let you leave so it is just another money grab.
How is the weather in June and July? Also is it safe to drink the drinks you buy from a food truck? Not sure if they use tap water. What hotel did you stay?
It's really about common sense and respect. Be nice and curious. It will open a new world! The people in Cancun are wonderful and they love to help you! They helped me a lot. Strangers could just come up to me when they noticed that I had a problem and they didn't ask for money. They actually helped me save a lot of money. They told me about ferries that was almost for free (not for tourists but workers), talked with cab drivers about the price (it went from 50 pesos down to 30), helped in the grocery store so I could get the best fruit and vegetables. I rented an apartment and I told the landlord that I wanted to learn how to make an authentic guacamole. He knocked on my door the same day and showed me. It was absolutely amazing!
Pippi Eivor my sister travelled alone around Mexico and she said the same exact thing, locals are so nice and helpful, not everyone is there to scam people, actually the people that realised that she was a lone traveller were looking out for her a lot, she said she never felt in danger whatsoever
Mexico is absolutely beautiful, there is so much pure unspoiled beauty. I'm am lucky enough to have family in Mexico that took me to the best places, going on vacation when your family are locals is the best. I stayed a month in Durango mostly in penon blanco. The desert in the summer is beautiful, little flowers everywhere and fireflies at night the smell of fresh tortillas cooking in the morning. The food is amazing everything is always fresh and in Durango my grandmother would cook in a clay oven with mesquite wood. Penion blanco is a little oasis in the dessert is also known for its natural thermal baths, I think it's called la concha. There's also a lot of walnut and fruit farms, the smell of walnut trees is amazing btw. The people are the friendliest and most generous I have ever met, I was walking with a cousin of mine one time and someone was having a wedding party and they just invited us in when we walked by, it was really fun. Also there are a lot of beautiful Spanish style houses with open areas in the middle of the house with beautiful gardens and colorful birds. I think it's a thing with senior citizens down there to collect flowers and birds. Mexico is amazing, too bad people only hear of the things in the news, it's so safe there after a day of swimming in the beautiful clear rivers full of pretty fish we caught to cook over a fire we would sleep outside under the stars. Well I guess it isn't that bad that people don't travel more of Mexico, all those resorts in Cancun are illegally tearing down the mangrove tree forests that keep the waters so beautiful. All these all inclusive resorts are messing up local economy as well since alot tourists don't leave the resorts, most of these resorts are U.S. owned. So not only are they messing up tourism and local businesses but also the environment.
eve cruz what part of Durango were you in my dude... right now I'm in the city but from Vicente Guerrero... I LOVE it over here it's sooo chill there is sooo much freedom
You should visit la constancia it's a chill place... The rivers run right in front of the houses n they got little bridges were the cars pass through.. it's really old school looking like.. they call it, La ciudad de agua
eve cruz that best places of Mexico never get shown wtf like Monterrey Cabo Queretaro La Paz Mazatlan Hermosillo Chihuahua etc those places are all modern with very beautiful people the cities are not crowded and it's very chill
I just came back from Cancun, and we went to the time share presentation. My mom fell into that trap, and now we have 20 weeks of vacationing apparently, for a suspiciously low price..
We went to one of those it was 3 hours of our day and there ended up being a fight between my dad and the sales manager after they said take a chill pill
We did one and we got a nice day trip with the money they gave us. It took about two hours including breakfast. They really don't like taking no for an answer but we put up with their bad attitudes and went on our way.
let me know if you need any advise, I was just there two weeks ago, places to visit, Playa del Carmen, Playa Delfines, the ruins of Tulum and Chichen itza, Isla Mujeres, Cozumel and the Cenote IK KIL I have never seen anything like it.
Great rundown of suggestions. As an expat, my Mexican friends feel that we expats over tip and this, in their estimation is not good. Nor do they feel that we should haggle for a better price. Personally I feel that in resort areas, I do ask if there is a better price as the prices are jacked up. My rule of thumb: if I like it I buy it at the priced asked. If it’s a common item like a ceramic mask, I keep looking until I’m comfortable with the price. On last point, I have been told that Pemex gas station attendants are not salaried....tip them. They will check your oil, inflate your tires, suggest additives, and clean your windshield without cost so giving them at least 10 - 20 pesos is nice. Be sure the gas pump is set to 000
I went last year and everything you said is true haha. A good tip for people going there and wanting more money for their dollar is to send their money through western union and pick it up there. You will get the best rate and don't have to worry about buying money over there. But definitely take some us dollars to tip your waiters, they will treat you like royalty. Can't wait to go back😊😊
Since that was the first time I was exchanging money over there and I didn't know what other options were there, so I went with that one. But next time i go I'll look for other options. Either way I didn't spend all the money I got for the exchange and brought some back home with me. Thank you all for the suggestions 😉
I can't stand videos that go through a list of things but dont actually have the list with timestamps in the descriptions....so here you go... #1 - Dont drink the water @0:23 #2 - Dont worry too much about the ice @0:46 #3 - Dont get pressured to buy things at the airport @1:09 #4 - Dont always take the first price as the final price @2:24 #5 - Dont forget your sunblock @4:27 #6 - Dont worry if you dont get the Pesos @5:29 #7 - Dont go to the presentations @7:07 #8 - Dont just stay at your resort @8:11 #9 - Dont lose your resort wristband @9:27 #10 - Dont pee in public @10:02 #11 - Dont forget to tip @10:35 #12 - Dont be scared to come to Cancun @11:43
Thank u for these. We recently went last month and i have to say your videos helped us out tremendously. We followed all your do's and dont and had a great time. Especially the tipping! holy cow we had no idea how much of a difference it makes. Just a dollar or 2 tip they treat u like royalty, and the drinks are stronger, the service is better and the ppl are more attentive. So thanks for your videos!
I first watched Wolter's when he reviewed Toronto and since i've lived there my whole life I thought he was bang on. Now he's one of the few I seek out for the lowdown on any place I may go to.
As an EXTREME veteran of Cancun.... many, many years of visits to Cancun... 90% of what he says are great tips. What I take issue with??? He starts out talking about staying on the STINKY lagoon side of Cancun. REALLY??? If you are going to pay for a trip to Cancun, the LAST place that you want to stay is on the LAGOON side. if you're not on the ocean side, don't even bother with the trip!! The other thing is on tipping. It depends GREATLY on the hotel. There are some hotels that have NO position on tips. In that case, yeh, tip well. There are other all-inclusive hotels that make a big deal about tips being included in the cost. A little bit goes a LONG way with those employees. 15-20%???? Absolutely NOT!!! Those people will greatly appreciate the courtesy of a 5% tip.
Great video, I've been Cancun 5 times now and we try to stay at a different resort every time. You were spot on in every tip. I like to stay closer to downtown (walking distance from shopping centers, restaurants, bars...) although when staying at a resort you really don't have to step out but Cancun has so many places to explore. A tip I would have for anyone staying at a resort is that as soon as you check in to your hotel walk to the nearest kiosk and make dinner reservations at the hotel's steak restaurants... especially if you stay at an all inclusive resort. You can make a reservation for the same restaurant twice or choose a different one for every day you stay there. Do it right away bc they fill up quick and you will miss out on great food while staying there. I usually take about $50 in single dollar bills for tipping, a couple of $5 bills... bring extra sunblock, and comfortable tennis shoes because you will end up walking around a lot.
I stayed at the Palace too when we went for spring break! Anyways, in addition to the bands, people in he markets will spot you wearing them and will real you in by saying "Oh I work at the hotel your staying at! Come check out this stuff!" We saw someone we did recognize (who worked at the hotel) when out and they told us to watch out for that.
I recommend not to stress when u get out the airplane and if u want to rent a car it will take a long time but do calm down and dont stress and pay attention to everything
Been going to Cancun, PDC and Cozumel at least 1x yearly since 2001 it's my favorite place! Another tip don't be afraid to take the public bus in Cancun and go to the local FD and buy one of their shirts it's a great souvenir and it's a good donation.
@@busymeowser Im not sure since I avoid going during spring break. Lol but I would say no, a lot of locals take the buses so I can't imagine they would raise it since so many people depend on it. I would just ask the hotel clerk what the price is. And if the driver of the bus tries to charge you something different let them know you know how much it costs. As for other stuff costing more.. the nightclubs probably charge higher cover charges since they usually have special events going on. But again I can't say for sure since I havent been during that time.
I live in Cancun and rule #1 is to avoid taxis as much as possible, they are abusive with tourists and with local people too, and they are also controlled by a mafia, that's is why there are no uber here; once we had it and all the uber drivers were harassed by the taxi mob. I personally recommend to all my friends and relatives that come to better rent a car during their stay in Cancun. You will save a lot of money renting a car.
@@madisonmccall1340 you can just ignore the police if you're not speeding or if they wanna stop you for no apparent reason. They'll follow you, of course, but they'll pretty soon realize it's pointless, and will leave you alone. And if you wanna rent a car, the best company is Mexico Car Rental. Hertz is a scam, and will charge you for things you never asked for in the first place.
In regard to the sunscreen, if you're going to a park like Xel-Ha make sure you bring biodegradable sunscreen with you. Do some research, because the stuff they sell at the parks leaves you looking like you took a bath in oatmeal and the white cast doesn't rub off. Other parks require it, too, so double check! Also, buy a waterproof case for your camera so you can take videos/pictures while snorkeling. It's like $30 in the park for a crappy one.
The white stuff that doesn't rub is zinc oxide which is the safe sun blocker. You can just buy this in powder and mix it with shea butter and coconut oil which are safe for coral or if you can mix it with a lotion that is biodegradable too then you can mix it with more or less depending on the protecction you need but at least a 25% will leave you like white pale skin so no way to escape ;P but I prefer to get this weird color if I'm gonna be for a while in the sun as it can save the burn pain. Ingredients that are not biodegradable and very toxic for both animals and ohhh surprise: humans!: Octocrylene, Benzophenone, Butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane, Hexyldecanol, cetyl dimethicone, methylparaben, polyethylene, Propylparaben, Butylcarbamate. If it contains one of the following ingredients it is biodegradable: Titanium oxide and Zinc oxide.
I allowed myself to get roped into a timeshare presentation in Mexico once. Once. It was awful, high-pressured, and ended only when i lost my cool and raised my voice. At that point, because i had gotten the attention of the other attendees/suckers and created a ruckus, only then did they agree to end my presentation and give me what had been agreed. A day at their water park facilities for the entire family. I learned then, and only then, that it was limited access to the park, and that towels were not included. I was so disgusted that I walked out, blowing off the water park, and just considered the whole experience a lesson learned. Over the years I've also been shaken down, twice, by the local corrupt cops. Both times, the cop noticed us driving to Playa Del Carmen from Cancun in our rental car....since the car is clearly marked with a rental car sticker. Both times, I was not speeding, but the cop insisted I was. No use in arguing. The end would be: 1. Dispute the fine and have a court date. In that case, i was going to be stuck in Mexico. 2. Pay the fine. Right there. To the cop. I paid the cop, both times. It was so cheesy on one occasion when the cop literally turned his back to the window, and stuck his sticky fingers through the window in order for me to discretely grease his palm. $40 (which is all i had in my wallet). On Isla Mujeres, my son and his fiance found themselves riding around on a golf cart on Isla Mujeres (short boat ride from Cancun. Beautiful place), and somehow managed to take a wrong turn. A cop appeared and informed them that they were on private property. My son, who does not speak spanish tried to convey they he did not understand what the cop was saying. He indicated that he would leave immediately, but the cop blocked his way and started shouting in spanish. My son had no idea what to do and just stood frozen as the cop ranted on and on about something incomprehensible. Eventually, the cop POINTED HIS GUN AT MY SONS FACE! My son and his fiance were terrified, and eventually he realized that the cop wanted money. $100 for this "infraction". I used to love the area. In those days, Playa Del Carmen was not too crowded. Now, it is like Manhatten on the water with expensive boutiques and restaurants on the main drag. Akumal has been discovered and frequently very crowded. I'm fed up with the cops and their corruption. As for beach holidays, the beaches are still beautiful, but the shine has completely come off the apple for me in terms of Mexico. Their are plenty of other beaches much safer, less corrupt, less crowded than the Yucatan Peninsula, and if i never return there again, that is fine with me.
@@smokingcrab2290 you'll be missing out of a great destination with your way of thinking. It doesn't happen to anyone. It's not a crime to not stop if a police car stops you for no apparent reason, just, keep driving (the guys could follow you for a while, but they will quickly see it's pointless, and leave you alone). And with the timeshare stuff in the hotel of your stay, just say you're not interested, gracias, and walk away. And if the timeshare people are outside the airport, just ignore them, and don't make eye contact with them. Plain and easy.
I knew not to drink the water but I ate the ice, worst mistake I’ve ever done traveling. Had the runs for a long time, most of the day. (I live in NY).
Dude you literally rock so much. I remember I went and watch one of your videos before traveling to Italy and you were so helpful. And then I couldn’t remember what your name was and I could never find you again and you just now showed up in my recommendations. Just in time for me to start planning my Cancun vacation I hope you know how helpful you are!
Buy the souvenirs at Chichen Itza! They sell everything dirt cheap. To the point where you want to give them extra. Little statues that I've seen for $8. I got for $1 inside Chichen Itza. And yes tip. It is not expensive over there. Don't be a cheap skate.
Thanks so much for such great advice. I am from Cancún. I take all you say as a personal compliment. We are so proud and love this place so much. We don’t take this paradise for granted and it feels so much when someone else praises it. So thanks for that ❤

I went to Cancún and Chichen Itza in February. The weather was awesome in Cancún. Chichen Itza has a different climate the sun is really intense on your skin, so don't forget to apply sunblock and take a hat or something that also covers your neck. Another thing, be careful with stuff you buy like decor, it breaks easily depending on what its made of, of course. The majority are made of cast (I think that's what it's called.) I hope this helps.
When possible, pay for meals and souvenirs with pesos. Otherwise, know the actual exchange rate and ask for THEIR business exchange rate before buying. Some take advantage and some don't.
My Family and I just came back from CanCun, and all you say is absolutely true. Thanks for being so honest, sincere and truthfull. My very best wishes for all the people around the world when visiting CanCun. :-)
Loved your video so much. It was great...Big thanks!! We just booked an all inclusive resort for 2 weeks in early 2022. Can't wait and we are so excited.
I was there 30 years ago, and had a wonderful time, staying at a little hotel (built before the whole beachfront was hotels), and visited Chichen Itza, too. I left tips all the time, and thought it a wonderful vacation, acconpanying my friend from Grad Sachool who asked me along because she was only going with her parents and wanted a companion from her class at school!
When I went to Cancun on my honeymoon I liked a purse on a little market outside of the hotel I asked the lady how much “ in Spanish “ and she said $500 pesos so my husband ask for the same purse right the next day and he bought it for $300 pesos , with all respect but they sell things more expensive for Americans than Mexicans
Oh my god thankyou! I’ve been traveling to Mexico for years, and I actually live here in Cancun now, and I’m so happy that you had ideas that I agree with and 100% also can confirm all of these are accurate. Sometimes some of the “tips” I’ve seen are borderline not okay in terms of comments about safety, and tipping, and communicating with the locals here. Thankyou for sharing important info about my beautiful home!
I believe it was Cancun, I would have to ask my nephew to verify. My nephew went there and a taxi driver deliberately took him and his friends out into the Country dropped them off and left them knowing these kids will miss their Cruise Ship that was leaving very soon. Wherever they were they missed the Ship and had to spend a lot of money for extra travel I believe including some air travel and with taxis to meet their ship at the next port. They learned a very valuable lesson.
Man this is one of the realist most helpful walkthrough for arriving in Cancun, setting that expectation right where it needs to be, along with bargaining, every single transaction, negotiate. Just do it!
Beautiful family! Thanks for the info. Flying into Cancun with my wife and kids in a few days and this definitely eased the anxiety of traveling outside the country with them. Keep up the good work!
Please do not try to take a advantage of the people who sell handcrafted souvenirs. Is their livelihood. You don’t do it when you go into stablished shops, so don’t do it there.
I went to cancun for 2 weeks and I basically had to lead my mom around cancun and i was about 11. Their special 7-up (i forget what flavor) was very delicious and we had a good trip experience!
you should visit Playa del Carmen (30 minutes from Cancun) which is way better than Cancun. You get an ever more touristic vibe there. Playa is way better than Cancun imo
Viva la Mexico. I love going down there. First time i stayed in Akumal, absolutely pristine, its MUCH more laid back and the beaches, Coral Reef, aqua marine life , jungle life is still thriving there. I've traveled to several places in the caribbean , but akumal is special and has so much to offer whether you just wanna kick back, or be adventurous and go on excursions and expeditions. lots of local cafes, great food, nice people, very safe. Another plus is Akumal, is only less than a 30 min ride from playa del carmen, which is a really fun place to go to at night especially, great night life, delicious food, beautiful girls, good stuff all around. I try to stay away from Cancun its not really my thing. Im really looking forward to going back, hopefully sooner than later. Great tips here, BTW. I agreed with all of them, especially the tipping bit, a little goes a long way there, it shows the people providing you a service that you appreciate it, and they will take better care of you when you do give them something. I work hospitality at my job, we also get tips, so i know just how it works.
@woltersworld Love your videos, love your style, love your advices, love your do and your don'ts, love your family and love you! Absolutely the best travel channel on RU-vid :)
From a mexican, acutally living in Cancun, it's a great video! Great Don'ts! I would like to add a tip: Don't be afraid of public transportation, it costs half a dollar and can save you a lot of money, just ask about the routes.
If taxis aren't available TAKE ADO bus they are so much cheaper as well if you wanna get to another part of Mexico like yo Playa Carmen or as well the parks like Xcaret / Ext. Always check !! ❤️
Pockets. My best bargaining tool. ever. I think about what I want to pay for something and have that amount of money in a pocket. With a distressed look on my face, I take the money out and say 'But this is all I have'. Thank you for your great videos. I get to travel virtually via you!
Marco Ruiz, Tacos (street non-TacoBell stuff: can be pork, beef, sheep,...), Quesadillas (cheese taco?), Pozole (maize spicy soup), Pancita (intestines soup), Mole (a brown “sauce"), Gorditas (a cooked maize mass with meat), Pambazos (a spiced bread), Torta Cubana (a great sandwich), Mole de Olla (beef soup) & Enchiladas (tacos with a lot of sauce). Look for photos, my descriptions are awful :P...
one thing you might want to mention about the sunscreen is the specific kind of sunscreen that many tourist excursions require. Many brands like banana boat have chemicals that can harm the groundwater and/or the coral reefs in cancun and places want tourists to be wary of that and use certain sunscreens
Hi! I'm new to your channel and just subscribed! I just watched your videos on New Orleans as I will be there in June! thanks for all your tips and info its such a great help for new travelers like myself!
I have been to Cancun 3 times. I have always used a travel agency. I live in OKC and it cost's around $950 to $1300 per person. That includes airline tickets, hotel, ride from and to airport, and a handy ass coupon book. In the book they always have dinner paid at a new place every night, and a crap ton of coupons to do stuff for free! Take a water cave tour, swim with dolphins, free jetski rental, it goes on and on. I have never been bored when I use a travel agency. And as far as exchange rates and all that, I usually take about a grand in American Express traveler's checks. If you go to a bank and not an exchange depot they give you face value in pesos! And tip number whatever... If you are in an actual Cancun ran and owned bar, tip that bartender $20 American!!!! You will drink for free the rest of the night! This won't work on the strip, that's all American owned, and most the people that work there are American. Oh, and one more tip, bus drivers are nuts and watch out for scooters!!!!!!!
@@busymeowser honestly I don't know. I have always had a shuttle bus take me from the airport to the hotel, and it's free. I have actually never taken a cab anywhere in Cancun. When I book my trip I always include what I want in the price and tourist companies have always taken us in groups. Now if you are just gonna enjoy the nightlife I recommend walking in a group of taking a bus. All the strip nightlife is pretty close to one another. OH and 1 more thing I forgot to put in the original comment, the signature drinks are ALWAYS watered down and no matter what don't do the slide at Senior Frogs, it's gross!!!!
Was in Cancun 3 weeks ago with 5 other people and we rented a mini van because we wanted to explore and paying for taxi is a lot more expensive. Also take mexican currency because a lot of businesses pay very low for the US dollar. If you don't take enough pesos you can exchange currency but i still feel it's very low, i used my debit card and my bank only charged me a few cents per transaction. I also noticed i was paying less than what i was being quoted in US dollar by using my card. Don't get overwhelmed and be forced to buy something just because you're being swarmed like a piece of meat. When it comes to buying grocerys or buying bottles of alcohol i recommend going to a big supermarket where you won't be over charged as some of the small businesses tend to do. Respect the beaches and treat everything and everyone with respect remember you are a visitor.
Loved Isla mujeres, it's small island feel and narrow streets. There are unsavory parts of Mx that we didn't expect like a lot of the small towns have homeless dogs. just be wary you're going into someone's home country be respectful.
We went from Cancun to Chechinitza on a large AC bus (think 1 or 2 hour drive) and went through a couple military checkpoints. One of the checkpoints had a soldier on top of a humvee asleep with his finger on the trigger of a SAW pointed right at our bus. Thought he was going to wake up and forget what he was doing. This was also the hottest place I've ever been especially Chechinitza.
Love and trust your research, fam, and tips! This is only place we’ve traveled from the US (aside from Peru which was true authentic hardcore globe trotter trip of a lifetime!) and you nail Cancun! Riviera Maya area I personally love more but yes GREAT vid!
I always stay in a hotel for a day or two when I arrive in Latin America for two reasons. They can arrange a transfer from the airport, which may cost a bit more, but it’s worth it so I don’t have to be confused when I’m arriving late, I’m tired, and not in the mood to negotiate taxis and hucksters. And a hotel can offer assistance with various needs and tasks. Secondly, because the hotels usually offer breakfast included, which is great when you wake up in a new city and you’re starving and have no idea where to go. Then after a day or two I transfer to an Airbnb or wherever. Simple conveniences that are worth it in the first 48 hours.
