I stopped in Gary back in the early 90's and stayed in my truck at the flying j right of interstate 94. People here are awesome. Everyone was friendly and very nice. Gary has a lot of history and some really great famous people were born and raised in Gary. I feel if we pulled together we all could make anywhere in the world great. So please to the people who are bashing this great city please stop. God Bless You All and Jesus Christ Loves You All. Go with Love,Humility,Kindness and Generosity from God.
Having grown up in Gary, IN, I almost identify w/ every word you've said. I am a middle class African-American, and when I saw there was no hope to educate my son's and daughter to be have the same, and more, we moved. Personally, I hope that Gary has a come back, but personally, I would never ever move back. We have family still there, and in the last 5 years, to answer your question, no, we've not even gone back to visit.
Fascinating trek through Gary IN. You two guys should have a radio show if you don't already. Guys like you make excellent role models and leaders. Thanks for sharing! Cheers from BC Canada!
What some people call trash, I call treasure. I'm from Chicago and have this interest on photography of abandoned/decaying buildings. I been thru a lot of locations thru out the city. Gary was the jump start to my current hobby and have branched out to other states.
Great Video - I was born and raised in Gary and lived there until my early teen years. I lived mostly on 4th Madison St and went to Jefferson School (both, the one on 6th Jefferson St and later to the “new one” on 5th Jackson St. I remember Broadway blooming with stores and commerce. And throughout the rest of the city there were businesses everywhere. My mom was a housewife and I believe that I was the only one in school who’s dad didn’t work at US Steel - he worked for the South Shore South Bend Railroad. During the mid 70’s things were getting from bad to worse and my family decided to leave. I feel really sad when I see pics or vids on how bad Gary has gotten. I have faith that one day, Gary will flourish again...
In 2000 we had a flat tire right outside Gary on our way back to Indianapolis after a Saturday night in Chicago. Thank God nothing happened to us back then and a guy helped us find a tire repair shop to fix our flat tire. :)
What people don't realize, especially the ones that is not from there, that It isn't totally the citizens of Gary fault the way it is now. For decades people in the G have tried to bring its foundation back on its feet but cant do it alone. The government should help like they do with several other decaying cities but to no avail. By the way.....that's my home!!
It is a damn shame what happened to that city. Detroit can't even compare. And that is just fucked up. I wish some of the people who were born there, but made tons of money, would help out just a bit at least. I wish you guys the best. I really hope shit turns around.
Born and raised in gary, left at 19, never looked back, no longer have any family there, so no reason to go back, it was a hell hole in 1976 when i left and now it’s a dead city!☹️
I was born and raised in Gary,In. Methodist Hospital in 1960 i was born and graduated from West Side High School in 1978. I hate that place not one good thing happened to me there. I dreamt of growing up and leaving the ROCK. I have lived in 47 states because i wanted to see and experience as much as possible. I am in Dallas, Tx right now, and i still have folks there.
Question, do you know any Avery's & I had 2 uncles by the name of Dirk Anderson & Victor J. Anderson who was Mr. Westside back during your time. I'm their nephew, graduated from Lew Wallace in 83.
This is a Great Message & Business plan toward Success - Keep Up the good Work and Keep it on the Mark we thank you for what you do on Black Wall Street for the People
Gary is over too many bad apples police the court system is ridiculous bogus the people in Gary don’t want better they don’t want a do better they are set in bad ways
I only have a question Jackson Family are from Gary, did they help their city of birth? Why they didn’t do it? (If they didn’t)

The Jackson Five didn't owe Gary anything. They were not a part of the demise of Gary. Why would they invest money in a city that was run by unqualified leaders with no vision. When Richard Hatcher became Mayor white people fled and built Merrillville. They tried to annex Glen Park from Gary.
I'm an Indian n I want to see Gary Indiana because of Michael Jackson his birth place is there n I want to see his childhood home n feel his childhood there ....
Gary isn't dead yet, but if someone don't don't do something in next few years it will be lost cause and waste of excellent resources. I am not rascist and want to see the best for my state( native Hoosier))). I had a co worker in Terre Haute/Brazil areas steel fabrication. He wanted to go to Gary to visit relatives. Everyone, I mean everyone was scared to drive him up here. Trying to be the true friend I am, I said I would take him, but he had to to get good directions for me. I ended up taking him and picking him up 2-3 times and to this day ( over a decade now) it pains me to think there is another place in Indiana that scares fellow Hoosiers that they want touch with a 30 ft pole. I pray this starts changing soon. This isn't a Bonanza TV show from 60's. That one the spoke about " you-ons, we-ons, and us-ons". There are "you-ons", this is "we-ons", but there ain't know "us-ons". That pains me. I am a conservative minded, white/ blue color, Hoosier Farm boy. I try to share Gods love with all my brothers and sisters. I don't give too craps about skin color, I am about treating your fellow man with love and respect
Been to Gary like three times in the summer time had a girlfriend in Indiana that city is sad ass fuck and depressing and theres nobody out there just a bunch of hypes I never got mess with as soon as they seen the Illinois plates on my truck and my white Sox hat some would look at me give me a heads up some would just look the other way was never scare to ride down there I would just get depressed being in that shit hole
Arianne a tech recruiter asked if I was interested in opportunities in Detroit and I respectfully said no. They really can’t pay me enough to move to Detroit.
make downtown colorful put some artistic work downtown mix old with modern gary will be on the rise soon like detroit and camden nj and newark nj the governor needs to give more money and the federal goverment
HOME.. I RECENTLY ADDED SOME VIDEOS DRIVING THRU GARY.. THE MOST RECENT WAS FILMED DRIVING THE THE DELANEY PROJECTS.. People don't know how big the rap scene was here in the late 90s early 2000.. SO.. I UPLOADED VARIOUS CLIPS FROM THE 1999 DOCUMENTARY "LIVE OR DIE IN G.I.... Take a peek and get first hand commentary from those who came up in these streets in the 90s....
Serious enquiry.....I'm visiting Chicago in June 2016 and would like to visit the City of Gary ....Why????.....well my name is Gary.....So can I please ask (1) Is there a big sign anywhere saying 'Welcome to Gary?...exact location, road name/number etc!!!.....(2) Is there a good Diner you can recommend (I'd Rather support a local business than a big franchise) .....and (3) Do I need a Gun ha ha.....I live in Runcorn England, a suburb of Liverpool, so I don't mind rough places, I live in one.....I'd just like a picture of myself by a Landmark 'Gary' sign.....thanks for any help, advice on this!!!!.....Gary.
Mondo ha ha ha.....thank you for caring.....I made it to Chicago, what a fantastic place and people, loved it....but I didn't have the time to justify the trip to Gary.....I did ask a couple of cab drivers about a visit but they both gave me funny looks and said "you don't wanna go there".....Maybe next time, although I think I saw The city from top of Hancock tower!!!!
Nice video guys I agree 100% someone needs to invest in Gary to get it going Walmart Meyers something just to get jobs in witch would build homes because if something doesn't happen soon there will be nothing left of Gary but empty house's
I know this is kind of late, but if you don't start anything with anyone and you keep on roads that don't look mischievous, you shouldn't have an issue.
5ive Nem Why? Are you one of those unambitious low income troublemakers he was talking about? He stated the truth with some positive topics sprinkled in.
