As an English man I can honestly say Wales is a truly beautiful country that you never tire of going back to. The people are brilliant and it may be a surprise how much the English do actually like and respect the Welsh
The thing to remember about Newport and the south of Wales it was the center of the industry . You may like cities in hich case visit Cardiff . But if you like to see the countryside and castles . Go to med and north Wales ,@@tufftraveller4784
I went to Wales in summer of 2019, and I had never heard of it before I went there. Once i left I fell deep in love with the country and the language and am now learning Welsh on duolingo and planning on traveling there many times
@JustMC That’s so true, I’ve recently started listening to a Podcast learning Welsh and also downloaded SaySomethingInWelsh which seem to be a whole lot better, I use them all in conjunction for learning now! I’m also going back to Wales this summer!
Us Welsh people are very passionate about our country and fills us with soo much more pride when people show their appreciation for our country, Diolch 🏴❤️
Too many paedos. I live in Wales (for 30 years) and the authorities are blocking a huge investigation. The police told me that too many families are involved so nothing will ever be done about it. And you are proud of that. Welsh people poisoned my wife in 2013 she now has a debilitating neurological condition. At the same time they poisoned another local mother to keep their secret safe. When I reported this to the Police known officers then passed my info to the child abuse group. That was five years ago. We still get our vehicle tampered with and have received many death threats. If you are so passionate about your country then you need to sort out the corruption within authority. Yesterday like. We don't really leave the house any more. The offenders are free to continue their child abuse. Diolch for your help. Horrible place.
Having lived in Wales my whole life it's nice to see it covered in one of your videos as it's often overlooked by international tourists who think it's part of England lol
@@woltersworld there are a lot of national trust places to visit in Wales too if you have the chance. Powys Castle is a nice place to see. They usually have reindeer about over Christmas too
@@aerondafydd132 Europe has more castles per square mile than any other continent, so by having the the most castles per square mile in Europe, Wales - by default - has the most castles per square mile in the world. Other countries can make similar claims by other metrics - for example Germany has more castles total than any other country in the world and Czechia has more castles per capita than any other country in the world. Notice how they're both in Europe, again.
Speaking as an Englishman: Wales is awesome! Some points: We call them lay-bys here. 'Pull off' means something very different 😬 Tenby, Beddgelert and Portmeirion are nice towns worth checking out. 'Bore da' (good morning/day) is worth learning if you only learn one phrase in Welsh. But absolutely, the countryside is the main highlight. Great video!
For 15 years I drove to North Wales every week and got paid for doing it. I never got tired of the scenery. Also ( now I'm probably going to get a lot of stick for this) I like Max Boyce, his songs, humour and poems about Wales.
Nailed every sad cliche perhaps. Not a reflection of our country at all. Makes it sound like a backward film set from some historical movie. Awful man.
I am an amatur astronomer, I live in Birmingham in the centre of England, but I also have a small apartment in a little town on the Welsh coast called Barmouth, on a crystal clear evening i love sitting on the beach stargazing, the view of the milky way is amazing, I always make sure I am there for the Perseid meteor shower in August, there is no better place in Britain to watch. I am really glad you like Wales so much, and Its very true about the friendly, helpful nature of the Welsh people. Diolch am eich fideo
I’ve lived in Wales my whole life and I wouldn’t live anywhere else. People who move here always say we’re the friendliest most tolerant people they’ve met - it’s why they come here. We say hello to each other when we walk down the street. If you ask us we’ll help you and we’ll always have a friend who can help you further down the road ! I live outside Cardiff and Brecon is just up the A470 and it truly is beautiful. I love Snowdonia, Betwys Y Coed is one of my favourite places to visit up there. If you like walking, cycling, motorbike riding or horseback riding then Wales is an excellent place to visit...
As a Scotsman that doesn't know much about Wales its nice to hear a visitors appreciation for the country. I have been through Wales and it was stunning.
Can I add that, because of it's rich history, there are museums of all shapes and sizes, offering a variety of experiences, as well as galleries showcasing the work of local artists and crafts people. It is also a great place for wildlife, especially with a coastline that wrapping around three sides of Wales and boat trips out to islands, like Skomer (check out the "sea parrots"!😂). That sense of being laidback and unhurried is what I grew up calling "being on Welsh time". Forget posting selfies on instagram and face book, bring a notebook, a sketchbook, paints or pencils (or else take your time in using your camera) and create meaningful memories instead. Oh, and "coracles"! Definitely a sight worth seeing!
In my home country it's almost impossible to find roads so tiny, maybe if you are inside a farm, the owner might have such tiny roads, maybe. Considering some farmers have farms there can easily go over 150,000 hectares...Wales itself is about 1/5th the size of my homestate out of 26, so Is England...the first shocking thing I found when I came to the UK the first time is how small things are and how big... everything seems huge with so much to see but at that point I just noticed how big my home country is and how small the UK is.
You call it 'Rain', the Welsh call it 'July'. When I first went to Wales I was amazed by the scenery - crazy steep hills and waterfalls over slate rock, Wales is awesome to look at.
if you think July is bad come here in April that's when the rain really get's going :P i like to think of wales as a crumple point (seriously flat land is rare in north wales)and it is a lot of fun going over the hill's and far away
And if you ever visit again which as you know you will be most warmly welcomed. If you didn't visit I recommend the Gower peninsula first site of natural outstanding beauty in the UK also Paxton's tower is an Interesting visit apparently it was inspired by lord Nelson. If you like a bit of history aswel the old ww2 placements all along Carmarthenshire like tank traps and pillar boxes. I'd always be willing to show you these places.
I will add another shock to look out for the singing! The first time I took my wife to Wales we went to a local (Pub), there was a family do, going on and, suddenly someone started to sing, within moments the whole Pub was singing! It is really natural for Welsh people to sing when they gather together!
Wow thank you for speaking so lovely 💞 about Wales ,I am born & bred South Wales proud to be Welsh glad you so enthusiastic about Wales so glad you & family enjoyed you stay xx
You’re so right about the Welsh language. One of my middle names is Pwyll (my dad wanted to honour my Welsh great grandparents) and it took me 10 years to be able to pronounce it.
Jack Aylward-Williams oooh interesting, I’d totally mispronounce that like ‘Phil’ I don’t know why we Brits struggle so much with welsh, it’s after all, our true language.
@@RenLuuk: Years ago I had a girlfriend who lives in Llanelli, she had a friend who lived in Poolch. "Ch" pronounced as in Charisma but in the back of the throat. Best way I could describe it.
I'm so lucky to have been born and live in Wales, with a Slovenian father, so visit there as often as I can. 2 of the most beautiful countries, both with strange languages, real tongue twisters. Loved your video on Slovenia too.......
At last! My wife and I have been fans of your channel since we started doing research on getting married in Las Vegas 2 years ago and have always been looking forward to you visiting our country. Glad to hear that you enjoyed and that you received a very warm welcome. Thoroughly enjoyed your video. As for the welsh language, we will happily give you lessons :) Diolch!
I am a Welshman, and I live in the Brecon Beacons. We have a massive garden so most sunny nights are spent in the garden. But in the nearby town of Abergavenny its crazy, house prices have rose so much since I bought my house. There's a hotel in the town centre which sells afternoon tea at the same price of The Ritz in London. I love living here as its not far from anything but rural enough to make yourself feel alone.
Hi, this is a great guide, I’m welsh and live in Abergavenny in the Brecon beacons, so on behalf of all the welsh people we thank you for your kind words. And hope anyone travelling hear enjoys their stay.
Great seeing a video about Wales I feel it gets way overlooked compared to Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and England. Another cool thing is you can get a relatively cheap ferry to Ireland or France so it makes for quite a good stepping stone for traveling around Europe.
@@woltersworld Better tip - get a combined SailRail fare. The rail element, from anywhere in the UK to either Holyhead or Fishguard, is next to nothing (something like £10 each way on top of what the ferry fare would be, depending on the exact station). This works for Ireland (it also works for going from Cairnryan to Northern Ireland). It doesn't work for going to France or the Netherlands.
Thank you we agree with every word x We moved here to Pembrokeshire from England nearly 20 years ago we do go back occasionally to visit our family in the Cotswolds. Wales rocks though we love the castles the singing, the food the stars. Most of all the wonderful Welsh people 🐲🏰💖😍
I’m from wales, The Rhondda valleys but I live in Bristol right now for university and I just miss the nature so much. I miss being able to go for a drive up the mountain to watch the sunset. I just love my home so much ♥️
08:00 - The museums are all free in Wales (unlike, for example, England). The Museum of Welsh Life at St Fagan's in Cardiff is spread over many acres and can take a day to see it all. Love your knowledge and appreciation of all things Welsh.
This is excellent , and well said . I'm Welsh and if I can help out any tourist I will do so . And yes we do get a lot of rain . the best time to come here is late August early September , but do bring your mac ! Sometimes after say two or three days rain . When the sun does comes out , the green is so bright it hearts your eyes . You will need a car to get about , get one with a SatNav (GPS ) . Don't worry about driving up the side roads . But drive slow around corners , you never know who or what you will met . There is always some place for you or the other car to pull in so you can pass. These roads were never meant for cars , they have been in use for hundreds of years . Some over a thousand .
as the welshman, it's nice to see he's got a good grasp on our our country, especially the england wales rundown. but it's nice to se how excied he is about us, def adopted now by us.
As an English man who's lived in Cardiff for 25 years I concur with everything you said! On a personal note, I love that you have a speed of delivery that doesn't drag and an energy that keeps the subject interesting. Great job. New sub 👍
Don't kid yourselves, the Welsh have plenty to say about the English too but it's all pretty good natured really. I spent all my summers as a kid around Pembrokeshire / Ceredigion. Wales is a wonderful place.
@@taffyducks544 Don't be a plum all your life. In a literal sense there are just as many criminals in Wales as there are in any other country. Then of course there was WW1 and WW2 and Welsh people did plenty of defending, fighting, invading and stealing in that along with the English. I think what you mean is that Wales hasn't invaded or stole off anyone else. And I think what you really mean is that Wales has been invaded by England but England hasn't been invaded by Wales. Well sure, that's true but at the same time Wales has never been the defender of England and England has been the defender of Wales so it's not really so cut and dry. England has been invaded countless times as well as invading countless nations. We should probably stop sulking about millennium old history, don't you think? A salient point to think about is that if 500 to 1,000 years ago Wales had been the dominant country in Britain you better believe it would have been doing all the invading and conquering England did. At that time in history people wanted to run the world.
@@ruk2023-- I agree, for the most part, and that would be true if the invasion of Wales actually ended. In the medieval period, Wales and England worked together much as they did today, but the English governments kept taking advantage of Wales. The whole reason for the Owain Glyndwr uprising wasn't down to just hatred of the English. It was because Welsh lands were being handed over to the English, and the Welsh had no legal recourse as all the courts sided with the English. Today, the UK takes many Welsh resources for very little benefit back to Wales, for example, with regard to power generation and water. Being part of the UK is keeping Wales as one of the poorest nations in Europe. I hear quite a few Welsh people saying that they "hate the English", but I would bet that most of them couldn't actually tell you why, other than a vague "well, they are complete tw*ts" response. There is no reason for the Welsh people to hate the English people, but there is a reason for us to be displeased with our current situation within the UK.
Coming from a valley girl, the mine closures were the worst thing to ever happen and I'm from merthyr, which wasnt really effected. Theres now an actual ghost town/street in one of the valley towns that's became popular with teens to explore because it's all empty, it's really a shame because theres a lot of beauty around the towns.
My mom was born in Sebastopol, Pontypool Wales and emigrated to Canada with her parents when she was a child. I love visiting the Land of my Fathers. I am proud of my Welsh heritage and hope to learn the Welsh language one day. We plan to visit Wales again once the pandemic settles down. I am surprised that there was no mention of music in the video. To me Wales is known for the singing.
Fantastic. Moved to Wales from the New Forest in 2013 (fabulous place). Wales is like a huge New Forest only its got hills and much much better views. Its got far more interesting coastlines as well. Been kicking myself ever since, oh why on earth didn't I move here 30 years earlier. Recommended: If you like coastline and walking, take a few days and walk the Gower peninsula. Spring early summer is probably the best time. Four days if you like move fast and if you amble take 7-10 days. There are plenty of guest houses around the coast.
My mother was Welsh from Cwm Ebbw Vale and live in Essex but her and my farthers Ashes are scattered over looking Cwm. I love the country go back ever year. And the Welsh cakes she used to make. And singing the national anthem when rugby was on in Welsh of course
Great to see my home country being celebrated like this. Thank you. Welsh folk will welcome any tourist, but will absolutely be confused about why you chose Wales.
I'm Welsh and have lived and visited many countries in the world . For me Wales is one of the most beautiful countries . I do not think the Welsh know how lucky they are . It is politically stable , no one I trying to shoot you and you can trust the Police !
I'm Scottish but live in Wales. It is a really pretty place. Hope you enjoyed Raglan and Caerphilly Castles. One place to see a bit of old Wales is St Fagans Museum of Welsh Life. it's near Cardiff, it's free and it has rebuilt old buildings from different parts of Wales to help preserve them. West Wales is also stunning. Bleanavon and Big Pit is also a great tourist place. Again it's free and you go down a real coal mine.
That is awesome. Thank you for the tips! I need to get my shocks of Scotland video out so you can let me know if I missed some nice spots. Thank you for the comments and advice!
@@woltersworld Shocks of Scotland hmm Gaelic, accents and weird words oh and midges. Like a Mosquito but more evil. I hope everyone was nice to you guys.
Mr Shanchat our son-in-law is Welsh...from Bridgend but lives in the US now. We visited Wales last summer and went to Caerphilly and St.Fagans and really loved them both. Lots of history there. We’ll be back again next August and are looking forward to exploring beautiful Wales again. However, we are starting our trip in your homeland of Scotland. Starting in Edinburgh/Glasgow and Aberdeen. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
The Welsh jokes aren't really malicious we all just love to take the piss, the English make fun of the Welsh and vice-versa, same with Scotland. I wouldn't take it too seriously it's just like siblings who make jokes but we still love visiting each other!
Yeah. Welsh humour and friendship can sound really rude. I offend a few English people who don't understand that, for instance, bastard, is a term of friendship.
I honestly hate being outside of Wales. There honestly is nothing quite like living here! There’s just such a huge variety between what you can find. Like as in with in a 10 minute drive there are 2 castles, 3 beaches, countless forest walks, dozens of restaurants, cafes, shops and outdoor activities. I know it sounds weird but I can smell this video lol
You don't come to Wales for a sun tan, we have very changeable weather because we are in the teeth of the South Westerly's, which roar in off the North Atlantic and bring a lot of rain. Same in Cornwall, Ireland and Western Scotland.
Can't wait to get out to Wales one day. We've been to England, Scotland and Ireland multiple times, so Wales will be next. It looks lovely and I'd love to drive and stay at smaller inns or B&B's. Thanks for the great video!
Lived in wales for a short while, love the country, so many castles and great people, so friendly, and yeah ha ha it really does rain a lot and I am from ireland so thats a lot!!!!
As someone from Wales, not many people mention wales and it’s beauty! Like England has nice beauty and all but it’s basically flat! Wales is very mountainous and has very beautiful beauty! And the history behind Wales is so amazing! I’m glad someone has made a video on this. ❤️🏴

I'd love to visit one day because: 1: It looks beautiful 2: I'd love to her the locals speak Welsh 3: I'd love to stargaze 4: I hear the food is great 5: It's not over crowded 6: I'd love to see the castles and ruins 7: I hear the McDonald's in Cardiff are the bomb..lol..seriously, nothing like here in the states 8: The countryside! 9: Friendly people And last....I'll drive there, but not at night!
You absolutely must visit Wales! But please don't go to McDonalds, there is far better places to eat in Wales, the Welsh are such foodies and the chefs here are amazing!
Great video!! I don't know how long you were in Wales, but you really captured exactly what this place is all about! I live in South Wales, just down the road from the Brecon Beacons. Your description of the roads, the weather, the villages and the people was spot on. I'm so glad you loved my adopted country x
Excellent! I'm from wales did not expect you to do a video about here haha. Most of what you said is pretty accurate :) People always underestimate the night time skies here, after going to a big city you realise how good the star gazing is here.
It always surprises me to see foreign number plates cos people don't often come. It's really nice to see more people are coming or are finding out about us :D
It’s best to remember that Welsh is the modern form of the language of Britain long before the Romans left, and the Saxons invaded. It took the English 1,000 years to finally crush the Welsh even though they were heavily outnumbered. Hence all the castles!
Wales is a great place, you should mention game day in Cardiff. That's an atmosphere worth exploring rugby fans get on great. There's so much to do here, lots of free or cheap places to visit just need a car to get to some.
In the US where I live we rip on the South, but the south is a lovely place with friendly people, and the food is better too. I guess Wales is the South of the UK. Not literally, but figuratively.
A few places to visit on your trip to Wales my fellow travellers.. North - Caernafon (castle, town, beach) Snowdon (second highest mountain in britain, beautiful scenery) Abersoch Beach. Mid/West- Aberystwyth, Aberaeron, Tenby (Tenby is the best) South - The Gower Peninsula, Pen Y Fan mountain. I kept it brief, theres plenty more to do. Hope I was able to help. Diolch
Yr Wyddfa/Snowdon is NOT the second highest peak in the UK. It IS the highest in England and Wales, but it is surpassed by Ben Nevis in Scotland and several other Scottish Peaks.
Absolutely loved this one Mark! Wales is our favourite place! My husband grew up there and we lived there together for 5years, we now live in Yorkshire. I'm so happy you've highlighted Wales, it's never given enough credit for its beauty. The Welsh language is wonderfully strange, that part of your video made us laugh!
You're right about the Rui ed castles. You get a greater sense of history at Conway castle than at Caernarfon, as the latter was over restored in the 19th century and is more like a movie set than a real castle.
Wow thanks Mark so much for visiting the place of my birth, the country where I live and one I am so so proud of. Wales has such a beautiful landscape for everyone to enjoy. So Please come and visit, for you all will be welcome to see the 'land of our fathers' we have been gifted with . Thanks again Mark (and your lovely family), I have followed your travels and always admire how sincere you are in all your comments.
Da iawn Wolter! Great vid! Makes me proud to be Welsh. I'm from Cardiff, South Wales. If you haven't already go visit North Wales particularly the llyn peninsula. Beautiful part of the world.
If you go to Wales don't just stay in South Wales. Mid and North has a lot to offer. A lot of international tourists stay in the South, which is a shame as they miss a lot.
Welshman living in Germany here. Nobody has ever heard of Wales, I literally have to get a map out every time I meet someone new. Its sad. Glad you enjoyed it though, well worth visiting certain places in Wales if you happen to be in the UK. Just steer clear of Newport, the Valleys and Swansea. Also for every joke an Englishman makes about the Welsh we have 2 or 3 to throw back at them - its just banter
That because the Welsh are generally down to earth and don't praise themselves, unlike another nation I can think of. You only have to look on history of famous Welsh people and the way they approached their achievements....often stating let other people judge them and history will decide if they are well known. Which for some has gone against them, such as George Everest, Alfred Russell Wallace, George Henry Thomas, David Thompson a.k.a David Ap Thomas, Sir Henry Morgan, Joshua Humphreys, etc.
What would make you think all english people always praise themselves and aren't down to earth? and you cant name anyone on tv or the internet. I'm talking about normal people. That's a very wide sweeping generalisation you're making there.

The Englishman was amazed and asked: “I want a wall around England to keep those damned Scots and Welsh out.” Bang, there was a wall around England. The Welshman says: “Tell me more about this wall.” The genie says: “It’s 200 feet high, 100 feet thick, it goes all around England, and nothing can get in or out.” The Welshman says: “Fill it with water.”
I was in Norwalk CT and to familiarise myself with American road rules I took a quick driving lesson. We were on a road a bit narrower than 2:52. The driving instructor asked me "do you have roads in Britain as narrow as this?" I replied "We have some roads that are as narrow as this car" 3:06 Some of my favourite routes are narrow goat tracks.
