This page introduces Hatsumode at Katori Jingu Shrine, one of the most popular power spots in the Kanto region, located in Katori City, Chiba Prefecture.
Katori Jingu Shrine enshrines Futsunushi no Okami, the god of warfare mentioned in the Chronicles of Japan, and is said to bring good luck for victory, traffic, and protection against calamity.
Together with Katori Jingu Shrine, Kashima Jingu Shrine, and Ikisu Shrine, they are known as the "Three Shrines of Eastern Japan.
It is said that before the Meiji era (1868-1912), only Ise Jingu, Kashima Jingu, and Katori Jingu shrines had the title of "Jingu" (Shrine), indicating that Katori Jingu was a special place for the Japanese people in the past.

🔸Honden
The main shrine of Katori Jingu had a system of rebuilding every 20 years during the Heian period (794-1185), similar to the Jingu at Ise, but this system declined during the Warring States period (1467-1568). The present main shrine is said to have been built in 1700 by Tsunayoshi Tokugawa, the fifth Tokugawa Shogun.
Okumiya Shrine
The Oku-gu Shrine of the Katori Jingu Shrine enshrines the spirit of the deity Futsunushi no Okami (Great Goddess of Mercy). The Okugu shrine pavilions are made of old timbers from the Ise Jingu Shikinen Sengu ceremony. The Okumiya, a place to enshrine the rough soul of the god, is a power spot that brings victory. If you are preparing for an entrance examination or thinking of taking on something in the future, we recommend that you visit the shrine.
🔸Kanameishi
It is said that Takemikazuchi no Mikami, the deity of Kashima Shrine, and Kyotsunushi no Mikami, the deity of Katori Shrine, inserted a stone rod deep into the ground and pierced the head and tail of a large catfish to sink the earthquake. The keystone is connected to Kashima Jingu Shrine, which is concave and holds the head, while Katori Jingu Shrine is convex and holds the tail.
Katori Jingu, one of the most famous power spots in the Kanto area, is also known as "the place to make up one's mind.
It is also believed to be beneficial for work luck and for those who are about to start something. It is also recommended for those who are determined to win in life, as it is the god of victory. It is also believed to be beneficial for driving away bad luck and for bringing good luck in marriage.
