I was interned in a public hospital in Argentina for páncretitis in 2005 for 85 days the quality of care from the nurses all the way to the doctors was first class and my hospital Bill was 0. God bless the argentinian health care System.

There is this famous case in which an U. S. tourist while in La Boca was stabbed in the heart by someone who wanted to steal his camera. The public emergency rapidly took him to Hospital Argerich, public one, where he was through this extremely complex surgery. And they saved his life. For the surgery and recovery period he was charged nothing. As he was in the recovery process and unable to return to the States and it was Christmas the surgeon who saved his life took him to his own home to spend Christmas with them. And cases of foreigners that received first class attention in public health at no cost are countless. Of course you have to wait for your turn depending on the medical specialty you require but everything is first class and patients are treated with humanity and empathy
Eres la cuarta persona en lo que va del año (2024) que me dice que la atención médica en Argentina es barata para ustedes, y de muy buena calidad, que te mandan a casa ya curado o con el tratamiento que necesitas, en muy corto tiempo. Décadas atrás, el sistema público de salud, era así, nada tenía que envidiarle al privado, ojalá podamos recuperar ese nivel de nuevo.
The prices you paid are not necessarily what an Argentinian would pay. Most Argentinians have health inssurance either because they pay for it privately or because they get one through they're employer. But, you can get anything done for free at a public hospital too, you'll just have to wait longer. Also, inssurance tends to cover everything except for expensive dental work. Sometimes you may have to pay part of the price for medications, but not much. Surgeries and important things are covered by most health insurance plans. I don't know what they offer for foreigners really, but overall, you won't be left ailing if you need medical care.
Yep, we can only speak to the experience as foreigners. We know lots of people have health insurance or would opt for public health care if they didn't have insurance (at least from what our argentine friends have told us). Thanks for your comment!
@@el_Contra the employer doesnt offer any plan. They pay for that because the law say so. They pay for your health inssuranse and a Lot of other taxes for each employ.
El Hospital Italiano es caro, es cierto.... pero a mí me salvaron la vida dos veces. Es uno de los mejores del país. 6 años de tratamiento y aún sigo adelante. Cuídense mucho. 👌👍❤🇦🇷

Yes, H. Italiano is expensive but one of the best ones in BA. A friend recently had to go through some studies that also included an MRA (magnetic resonance angiography) for 12k total, it was in a private hospital in Mar del Plata, no insurance, all in 5 days. It could have taken a month in a public hospital. The public hospitals are the backbone of our healthcare system, but not without issues... there is delays, lack of supplies and infrastructure problems, but the doctors and specialists are usually all well qualified, because it´s not very rare to see doctors working shifts in both private and public hospitals. Actually, people usually earns substancially more than 300 dollars. That being said, if you actually have a job, you get an insurance that most likely will cover a treatment like that for free in a private hospital like Italiano or even a better one. And if you don't have a job, you'll go to a public hospital for free (and you get all of that, but it might take somewhat longer.) That being said it was somewhat weird for the hospital staff to actually charge, in money, for something.
Lo loco de esto es que si nosotros vamos a otros países no podemos tener atención médica sin un pago, además ir a un hospital público es lo mismo que esperar la muerte , no dibujen como si fuera lo mejor porque para los que vienen de afuera parece lo mejor pero para los que tenemos que ir a dormir prácticamente al hospital para conseguir un turno con suerte un mes después eso no es lo mejor del mundo y con decir un mes fui buena xq es lo más cercano que se puede conseguir sin hablar que tenes que tener suerte para conseguir un turno .
All Doctors in Medicine in Argentina do their especialization (Residence) in publics hospitals, they have to pass a very difficult exam and the system takes into account the notes in their course of studyes too, so only the best notes or grades achieve to enter in a Public Hospital. You can find the same professional either in the public system or in the private. We have a good public health system that we need to value more.
Argentine medicine is excellent, the difference between public and private care is not only the cost, it is the study times, in favor of public medicine I will say that it is incredible how much can be done with so little and that most of the university professors work in the public system, in favor of the private system I will say that it works in affordable times and costs, putting the person as a priority over monetary gain
I am a Canadian living under universal healthcare, and I can assure you it sucks. There is a 10 year waiting list to get a family doctor so only walk in clinics are available. I have sleep apnea and all the specialists in Toronto are either not accepting new patients or don't even answer the phone and do not return messages. We now have a sub-third world level of healthcare in Canada. Will probably move to Argentina next year and work in Canada seasonally.

Difference between public and private hospital in Argentina is in the quality of the room, maybe you'll have to wait in line and more red tape, and you'll get a 6 people room without tv or a/c. But the medical care will be comparable.
Todos los hospitales tienen grandes profesionales y se esmeran en atender lo mejor que pueden a la gente. El hospital Italiano es de los mejores no sólo de Argentina, sino de América porque no sólo tiene excelentes profesionales, también está a la vanguardia de la medicina y en algunos casos aplican métodos experimentales, con la aceptación del paciente. No fueron a cualquier hospital. Qué bueno que salió todo bien.
En estados unidos les conviene comprarse un ticket de vuelo para Argentina, se hacen la resonancia magnetica aca, hacen turismo, ¡y siguen ahorrando dinero!

I sustained an injury in Puerto Madryn and visited a local neighbourhood clinic. I had to pay a fee to see a doctor - I think as a foreigner I paid more than a local national would pay - but the service was great. It was maybe the equivalent of US $20-25. I got referred to a specialist and drove to the Hospital Britanico in Buenos Aires - they had a patient liaison person who spoke excellent English. But the thing I'm really grateful for is my travel insurance included the ability to have phone translation in cases of health matters in multiple languages, so when I spoke with the special consultant he could speak with the translator on my phone in spanish, then handed me the phone and I could be told what he said in English and we carried on like this to have the consultation. I did have to make all payments and claim back afterwards.
Even if your insurance didn't cover for a translator, here by law the hospital and healthcare workers are required to find and provide you with a translator or interpreter

Mostly of hospitals in Argentina are good even publics or private with the differences of prices and insurance policies from unions you will get good treatment, as a foreigner in Argentina tried both and hope they will get better for their own people first because its fear, Thank you Argentina!!
All public hospitals are free, the American tourist, Joe Wolek was stabbed in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of La Boca, underwent surgery for the injuries he received and spent 20 days in the Argerich Hospital until he fully recovered. He did not have to pay anything because the Argerich is a public hospital. If tyou want to be treated in a private hospital, the best thing is to pay for a private medicine like Swiss Medical or Osde that will cost you around US$200 a month, but you will be able to be treated without paying anything else. Most of the doctors who work in private hospitals also work in public ones only with better infrastructure and shorter waiting times.

En Argentina te atienden aunque seas extranjero y no te cobran nada, el caso de Joe Wolek lo demuestra. En el resto del mundo también se destinan impuesto para la salud, aunque en el mejor de los casos solo están parcialmente subvencionados pero creo que somos el único lugar donde el sistema púbico de salud es completamente gratuito.

I think that public healthcare isn't bad, but it might be spotty, for example my bf crosses municipal lines to a nearby city to get health care, because apparently the local hospitals there are so much better and faster, as well as having additional public clinics for stuff like dentistry and even free proscription glasses, but you might get the other side of the coin and live in a city or town with inadequate service, so municipally run healthcare can be a mixed bag, but federal hospitals tend to be good, I don't want to generalized too much but even if they don't provide adequate care they transfer you to specialized federal hospitals, and there are a lot of them, there is even one exclusively dedicated to burn injuries, everyone working formally or as a """"private contractor""" gets some form of private insurance that mainly helps in the way of wait times
I should also mention that, even if as a country we disparige a lot of think about us, the one thing you will not find a single Argentinean disparage is the quality of health professionals, which isn't an accurate measurement by any means but still counts

Yes, thank you for the clarification. Going to the public hospitals in Argentina has no cost for citizens and foreigners which is a BIG difference from the U.S. We went to a private hospital because we're not residents in Argentina and we wanted to see a doctor quicker.

El sistems de salud es gratuito. En la clasificacion de los contratos hay una categoria que los divide en onerosos o gratuitos, usted cuando va al hospital no le piden nada a cambio. Que Ud pague impuestos luego a un ente que descentralizadamente a traves de un ministerio lleve a cabo la actividad en virtud de prerrogstivas, eso es otra cosa. Todos los dias se celebran contratos.

Hi Rob! Thanks for your kind words. This one required us to pay in pesos for the initial visit, then for the MRI itself we had to use a card. We're not entirely sure why there was a difference here with the payment types requested though.

Hi Christopher, thanks for the comment! Yes - exactly. Buenos Aires offers public and private options. Public options are free for everyone, but may take longer to get the care you need. For this reason, we opted for private, so we had to pay out of pocket for the services, but it was very manageable.

Un ejemplo que habia leido una vez que personas de paraguay venian a tener a su bebe a argentina porque aqui es gratuito y en paraguay no. O tambien lei una noticia de un caso de una persona que vino por un trasplante a argentina proveniente de peru y por su complicacion habia terminado en primer lugar en la lista de espera. Independientemente de los paises que te nombre, porque no vienen al caso, solo los puse de ejemplo (porque son noticias que lei) es algo que genera debate. El preambulo de nuestra constitucion dice " promover el bienestar general " para nosotros (los argentinos) y para todos los hombres del mundo que quieran habitar el suelo argentino; asi que incluye a todo el mundo; pero un argentino se accidenta en otro pais como bolivia y le cobran hasta el vaso de agua. No tengo una posición tomada al respecto porque por un lado todos merecemos tener salud y ser bien atendido y pero por el otro, el sistema de salud publico esta tan colapsado que no da abasto atendiendo a ciudadanos y extranjeros.

Don't be fooled. The public health system in Argentina is broken, is bad quality. My mother and I are sick and we can't get even an appointment because we have to go before 5 a.m to see if we're lucky to get one for the next month. They only give a few appointments and people sleep all night there to get before anyone else. The doctors are bad in every sense, generally they're all immigrants who discriminate you in your own country and don't care for you. Only those with money who can pay for private hospitals and clinics get good attention. I'm tired of videos like this, of foreigns who think we have a good public health system when they only visited CABA and don't know the reality of the majority of argentinians. With all respect and not in a personal way. I hope you understand.
You must know that there is more than one Italian hospital you must go home from most of them and call and hope their phone works and somebody answers and then you get an appointment for the next week. The hospital medical system here is supposed to be good cuz it's free but it sucks it's very difficult.
