Sinulog is a religious celebration. It goes back to the year 1521 when the people of cebu were converted into Catholicism when Spaniards came to Cebu. During this time, the image of the child Jesus was given to Raja Humabon. They built a small chapel for the statue of the baby Jesus, but a fire consumed the chapel. Everything burned down except for the statue of the child Jesus. Many miracles have known since then. The location of that original chapel has now been known as the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño.

I’m so used to seeing cedar and granite be excited without smiling that it was so surprising seeing granite’s wide smile at 8:50 🥹🥺 soooo precious. So lovely to see cedar having fun with forest despite how big an age gap there is between them. She seemed a little bummed that she had to miss out on archery but so glad she had fun anyway. One of my favourite episodes for sure

For Kelly, it might be nice to bring along some vegan/vegetarian furikake (Japanese rice seasoning) when travelling to places where rice is the main carb. They are light in weight (mainly seaweeds and sesame seeds) and can be made very easily to bring along, and makes a relatively satisfying savory meal.
Avoid iced drinks from the STREET VENDORS anywhere in the Philippines… but small milktea stores in the neighborhood is good. You can have iced drinks in any mall in the Philippines except in Palawan. Palawan has questionable water system.
water/ice is safe on mall establishments and in any proper restaurant or fast food joints. They usually use filtered water, just be careful with the street food stuff.
I just can't help not mentioning my misadventure. I was exactly at the same entrance last August 2022. One thing I told myself is that if I don't have private transport I should bring extra shirts next time. I got there 10 minutes before opening time and I was dripping with perspiration. When I got in the air-conditioning blew me the most uncomfortable sensation of filthy dirt filled sweat drying on my skin. Then I went to the dollar exchanger and I'm not sure but probably because I'm Filipino by appearance the lady asked me to produce a Philippine I.D. But I only have US I.D. since I left the Philippines over 30 years ago and only come for short vacations. I had to pay 200 pesos which is like 5 bucks to someone with Philippine I.D. who exchanged my currency. I went out with a very negative impression at that time. But the next day I came back with a relative who has a vehicle and we had a great time in that mall eating at the buffet etc.
Since the phils is predominantly catholic sinulog festival is a big deal, hence the big crowd. I dont know if you went to see the Mactan Cross, it's said to be the cross that ferdinand magellan brought to the phils in the 1500s.
