In this video, we are starting our 2.5 week Romanian road trip!
Romania is famous for its castles, and without a doubt, Bran Castle is Romania's most well known castle. This castle is often associated with being the inspiration for the story Dracula. Bran sits 2,500 feet above the sea level and overlooks the surrounding landscape of Bran Village.
We started our day by leaving Bucharest and going to pick up our rental car. The initial plan was to make it to 2 castles before we headed to our Airbnb. As most travel plans go, things did not go to plan. We realized that most sites, including castles, are closed on Monday's. Even though we weren't able to go inside, we were able to drive by Iulia Hașdeu Castle and see the grounds and surrounding area.
Our second stop was at the famous Bran Castle. We arrived at the end of the day for the last guided tour, the only way to see the castle. We really enjoyed visiting a full furnished, pristine 16th century castle! We would definitely recommend paying the small fee to see the extra section of castle that is closed off to the normal tour.
We are excited to continue on our road trip and show you more of the Romanian countryside. We hope you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching!

Underrated channel, nice work on editing guys and the way you showed beautiful Romania is just awesome. One need a lifetime to be able to see everything Romania has to offer. One place many foreign tourists skip without knowing is Europe's most preserved delta located in the South east of Romania. Mark Wiens went there and he made a video about it and the local customs such as food and attractions it's pretty cool.

AWESOME CASTLE. There is another Dracula's Hotel-Castle in Piatra Fantanele(Tihuța pass)\Bistrita-Nasaud in the mountains, and near that place it's also Colibița - a beautiful mountain-lake...

I was impressed that you had Iulia Hasdeu Castle on your list. Usually people go to Peles Castle and Bran, but I am happy (even though it was closed) that you chose that one. That castle is very close to my hometown, which was 30 minutes before the castle, the capital city of the county.

@@SammyandTommy I think in most European countries all museums are closed on Mondays. It is a pretty well known thing. I cant remember if I did. I know I saw it from the outside. We must have had a school trip when I was a child. But I also used to do a lot of research for promoting my county, so that is obviously something that comes up. Are you guys from the US or Canada?

Oh man I didn't know Bran Castle was soo crowded haha.. It looks beautiful, though! I loved the medieval soundtrack and the sfx on the torture chamber scenes 😅..And wow wonderful drone shots, too! Breathtaking! 😮 ... So Tommy is a big fan of groceries stores? 😎 hehe... Loved the video and watched both ads entirely! Congrats! ☺️

Awesome video! Just watched it in 4K. New subscriber, congrats from Romania! You should come in the east side of the country one day to visit Iasi City (my city) which is the cultural and historical capital of Romania, also a royal city if I'm not mistaken along side Sinaia (where the Peles Castle is). Iasi is the second biggest city in Romania after Bucharest if I'm not wrong. It is always Iasi or Cluj-Napoca on the second place. :)) Iasi City is also very romantic too, being associated with the name of the most famous romanian poem writer who wrote romantic poems, Eminescu, who used to spend time here, as well as other romanian writers and intelectuals at the time. The first union that led to the big country you see today has happened in this city. We have a big famous palace in the downtown named Palace Of Culture (with a big shopping mall in the back), the first university, botanical garden and electric tram in Romania and one of the most beautiful national theatres in the world according to BBC (National Theatre Vasile Alecsandri). :)

Guys, troughout Europe, entirely, Mondays and sometimes even Tuesdays are closed for museums. And not just Europe, but many other continents since the museums are open on saturdays and sundays :D

I remember catching the night train from Baia-mare to Bucharest, it took 11 or 12 hours. What was the first thing I wanted to do in Bucharest? Go to “The Harp” Irish pub and order the Shepherds Pie! I loved my time in Romania but I also missed the food from home.

Did you visit Poenari Castle which further up the mountain regions? Castle Bran is not really historically associated with the read Vlad Dracula, but it has been branded as such for the tourists. Castle Poenari which sits high on a mountain range towering above the Arges River is the real Castle Dracula. It's rather ruined now, but worth a visit if you can stand the half hour climb up the steps to reach it.

Romania is beautiful, but you need to adventure inside rural area, there you will find the nature, simplicity and all the good food:). But guys, was this video shot in april 2021? I don't see no one wearing masks etc. including inside castle.

Quick question about your car rental. I've visited Romania several times now but have never rented a car via Sixt there. I believe I've only rented from Enterprise and Hertz at the Bucharest airport if I'm not mistaken. Each time, I was forced to purchase their insurance, which was ridiculously priced. My credit card offers rental car insurance but the rental companies have refused to rent me a car without purchasing their insurance. Was that the case for you guys renting through Sixt?

Hey, sorry about that experience. We have been in the same situation and our cards offer the insurance as well. We firmly deny any additional insurance and that’s it. We haven’t been forced to pay but we have heard the horror stories and we go in prepared to say no. Good luck in the future!

@@SammyandTommy Sorry but I have one last question on this topic. When you have picked up your rental cars and denied their insurance, have they asked for proof that you are indeed insured by your credit card company? I'm heading abroad again soon and just want to be prepared.

They never asked us for proof but it you could always print a copy of your credit card agreement and have it with you and ready just in case!

I am very happy, that forheiners want to know more about Romania. But you all should know that the Dracula thing is a big lie.About Bran Castle you should know , that most of the furniture was donated by people.The only room with the original furniture is the queen's room.I was born in Brasov, I still live in Brasov,so I invite you to visit Romania because of our cultures, landscapes and people, not because of the invented Dracula story.

Ok, Romania is fantastic, but what kind of presentation is that of Romania with goulash and Irish pub?😀However, traditionally Romanians are eating exactly the same goulash recipe but under their own Romanian name" tocanitza de cartofi cu carne". By the way, the Romanian beer Ursus is excellent, I recomanded.Generally, nice vlog!

Has nothing to do with a beer or a dish, there are so many other dishes, let's not find an excuse. We should say ty to Austrians for the beer, Hungarians and their ancestors had nothing to do with beer coming from the lands of Asia, let's not steal from others to make a name for the other ones.

Romania is so very inexpensive! The money ratio is about 4 Lei to 1 U.S. Dollar. Coffee and cigs are about equal though.

@@SammyandTommy I've been there 4 times... I'm still going back again :D I have a few good friends there now :) I hope you got to see Cascada Bigar before it collapsed :( I was fortunate to have seen it in 2017.

Fyi this is NOT Vlad the Impaler's castle they like to advertise it as if it was but it is NOT Vlad the Impaler castle he never lived there. Please do not visit this place for vlad because you will be extremely disappointed. But you can go to his home town of Sighișoara, very pretty and he actually was there.
