And just like that, our Edinburgh month by month series is FINISHED! Now you can go watch all 12 videos, enjoy the disparity in their quality, and decide which month is THE time for you to visit Edinburgh & Scotland!
I've decided to include some shots from the Queen's funeral procession as it has really impacted the city's vibe in 2022 - and some of you who couldn't make it to Edinburgh might find it interesting to see the queues, the crowds, and the new King too.
Other than that we have some pretty b-roll as always, some info on weather and what to pack, celebrations you should partake in and what areas to avoid to not be hit by millions of new students!

We flew to Edinburgh from the U. S. and landed on the 21st. at 7:30 am. I knew we'd be jet-lagged but would want to stay up as late as possible and do at least one touristy thing. So, based on your recommendations we had 11:30 "afternoon tea" at the Signet Library. It was wonderful. My only regret is that we were so tired, we left our phones at the hotel and didn't get any photos. Everything was so beautiful. We really enjoyed our time there, but the Royal Mile walk and climb to the castle destroyed our feet and legs for days. It was fortunate for us that Holyrood opened the day after we arrived so we got a chance to go inside. It was quite surreal to walk where royals past and present had walked. I would suggest that anyone traveling to Scotland in late September bring a down jacket and a hat or scarf. It was quite breezy at any elevation.

Mission complete! I'll be watching the full play list with my notepad at some point, heh. I really like the idea of a neighbourhood series, I often just can't decide which area(s) are best to aim for as far as rents, etc. I do seem a bit drawn Leith for some reason. Costs do worry me (born worrier!), essentially I've worked out I'd need to pay at least an extra $200 per month than where I am now (Melbourne), but earning about $10 less per hr (going by the minimum wage). Complicated. Doable? Probably, millions already do it, but at what cost in terms of life satisfaction. *scratches chin* lol

I like watching your videos. Very informative. I note that it is getting cooler in Edinburgh now. Just wonder if it is going to pretty cold by end October and what clothings we need to prepare ourselves. Not sure if we need wool jacket and scarf.
@Kakibot
@Kakibot Год назад
By that point the days will start getting shorter and once the sun is down it does get very chilly. It’s mostly the wind that cools one down, it likes to sneak under one’s jackets so scarves are good to prevent that! Personally I get quite warm when I’m active, so as long as I’m walking around town at a fast pace I can manage with a leather jacket and a scarf, but if that’s not the case for you, or you might want to sit outside in gardens or pubs, you’ll need something warm to wrap up in!

Being on my honeymoon and all I won't be able to cover this anytime super soon, but I'd say Leith, Dalry/Gorgie, Meadowbank are good areas to start looking if you're after a good value! All are relatively close to the city centre! With Leith you might want to keep in mind the tramworks going on right now but at least they are keeping the prices down.

@h-Qalziel
@h-Qalziel Год назад
People in Scotland are generally very friendly and you can easily spark up a nice conversation with anybody in the streets. Of course, as with any country, making friends as an outsider is a bit harder as everybody already has their own 'groups', but Edinburgh is also a very international city with lots of people looking for friends too!
@Kakibot
@Kakibot Год назад
The previous comment really hit the nail on the head! I think Scottish people are generally friendly, and the levels of friendliness/openness to a random talk varies area from area. But I'd say as a rule, Scottish people are NICE and you can ask anyone for help or assistance when you need it without having to fear rejection or feeling like you're bothering them. But yes, as adults, locals tend to have pretty "filled up" social lives and it can be hard to feel like one of the group. I find lot of my expat friends manage to overcome this by simply becoming besties with their colleagues, haha .D that's like a fast track into anyone's social circle!

@Kakibot
@Kakibot Год назад

@Kakibot
@Kakibot Год назад
@@reylchinoe I think the most crucial thing to prepare for is the wind and how fast weather can change - this is both a good and bad thing, because you rarely get a whole day of "just bad weather" - it will usually go from good to bad and back again! Which is good for short trips like yours! I recommend a jacket with a hood and maybe a hat and a scarf, and boots that can take some rain and don't slide - the cobblestones here can get a bit slippery! Especially when you venture high up (the castle, Calton hill, viewing terrace of the museum), be prepared to be hit with the elements! It will probably not be super cold during the day but it usually feels chillier than what the forecast says - because of the wind! .)
