My Granny's childhood home is only a couple of miles away and is right on the coast, with easy access to the wonderful medicines the ocean offers to us. I love to connect to the past - to a simpler time. I love the idea that the energy of the women in the my family travels through time to me. How do you connect to your ancestors?
if you would like to know more about me, visit my website danusirishherbgarden.com/. In the shop you can purchase my two books, The Weed Handbooks Volume1 and Volume 2, and my flower essences. danusirishherbgarden.com/prod.... I also offer Herbal Medicine courses - which will be going on line if the restrictions do not lift - and information for this year will be coming soon. In the meantime, there are two courses up on the Udemy platform. Click on the link here www.udemy.com/course/herbal-s... and here

This cottage needs to be restored to its natural beauty. I'm thinking most of the original stone is still laying all around this property...what beautiful views!! What a blessing it is to be living near your family's home cottage ..!

@Amy Jones, not true in many areas of American coast, I lived on N OR coast and it was gorgeous rugged and sparsely populated. Lots of rich live on the UK coastlines as well, as my Scot relatives do.

I was raised in the south of the US during the 1940s. Mama used to buy her flour and other staples in cotton sacks to use to make our clothes. Some of the time she would take a scrap of cloth with her so she could try and match fabrics. It was not uncommon to see little girls in schoolrooms with dresses in different styles but all made from the same fabric print. We were raised with the phrase, "Waste not; want not". I still live like that at 82 years old.

MLC- I have a photo of my mother and aunt in matching print dresses. They remembered their mom showing a paticular flour sack to somerelatives, and asking them to purchase that print next time they bought flour. It worked, the little girls are about 6 and 8 when they were photgraphed in their new matching dresses, at a family reunion in the '30's.

This is absolutely fabulous, Terri. My great grandfather was a fisherman here and made his way to Canada. I am from the U.S, have been here in Dublin almost 20 yrs. Ancestors call? Thank you for your brilliance. I implore you to discuss Hy Brasil. It would be appreciated. I had a literal physical witness all over when you said it. The timing of the showing is key in my opinion. County Mayo is just up the road - the next county and there would be some similarities between them and us😀. Enjoy the Scottish Borders - it is quite beautiful there.

Hallo from Holland! I totally agree with you there. My grandparents were from Surinam and when I look at their photographs I see two people who were proud of their achievements. My gran,by the time of her 50th year, had 16 children of which a good many died young, but she managed to keep most alive with the little she had and earning extra by doing rich people's washing, selling homemade cornmeal porridge and occasionally selling one of my grandfather's hats. My grandfather literally built his own house with wood and self-made stones. He had a little plot of land where he grew vegetables, potatoes and rice. We are all indebted to them. Thank you so much for your beautiful video! May you be blessed!

I've just spent a lovely day watching all your videos. I'd already seen a few but today has been special. I've learned so much from you and recieved inspiration too. Your knowledge is priceless, things that all our grandparents would have known which has been lost to most members of society today. Everything is fast and wanted now, the very idea of preparing for future needs is alien to so many. A very unhealthy way to live, as these scary times have shown us. We live in a time when we have more material possessions than ever before yet there are more mental health issues, sadness and discontent than ever. You are so right in what you say, the challenges, frugal ways of living and preparations made us appreciate everything we had. Of course it was a hard life but people are no happier today I'm absolutely certain. Thankyou for sharing your Grandmother's home with us today, it was an honour to visit with you. Blessings to you xXx

Hi Terri 🙋🏻‍♀️ just what I needed with my coffee, 🤗 after an icy slide in the car to the nearest place for organic eggs/groceries before more snow arrives and blocks us in. Who owns the land now? What a fabulous location, but as you said tough going. I would gleefully romanticise about it and the simplicity, but having utilities helps now so much saving time and effort, we are stretched too much as demand is put on us from a million directions in other ways. An interesting vote of who now would go back and embrace that, or stay in the modern world? I’m torn! 😄Xx

Ha ha! I think I'm half way there. Contemplating making life simpler but keeping the washing machine!😂

I agree. I would like to be somewhere in between. Not as modern as now. But not as rustic as then. My goal is to find someplace in between. 💖

Did you learn some of your healing knowledge from your Granny? In the states there is an old saying: "A man's work goes from sun to sun, a woman's work is never done." I think much of happiness comes from expectations, the people of those times likely didn't expect much beyond home and a meal on the hearth, and the hope to see their grandchildren. I'm pretty sure you brought much happiness to your Granny. Thanks for sharing this lovely place with us.

Thank you so much JB. Unfortunately, I never met my Granny as she was killed in an accident but I have put together some information about her life. She emigrated to the USA when she was young and worked over there for a number of years and then came home and married, quite late, and had four sons who all spoke lovingly of her. Neighbours told me she could regularly be heard singing and she had a lovely voice. She enjoyed planting and gardening so I must have gotten that love from her.

@@DanusIrishHerbGarden I'm so sorry to hear this, It seems the two of you would have had a loving connection. I'm sure you are aware of habits, patterns that can create a connection through time. Likely you did get your interest in gardening from her, epigenetics is considered a solid science now. Do you know where she lived in the states?

Lovely, so peaceful feeling watching this video. Thank you. Can't wait for the next one. Were the roof of seashore cottages made with thatch or something different for strength. I've always loved Irish cottages since I was a young girl. Would love to have 3 foot deep windows and walls. I would be happy in an old Irish cottage. Thank you Terri and Lol . I'm going to enjoy it for a 3ed time. Peace and blessings to all 💕

Peace and blessings to you too Pamela. Thank you. In my granny's youth all the cottages were thatched. (She was born in 1891). By the time she came home from the States, people were beginning to slate their roofs.

@@DanusIrishHerbGarden My family is from Donegal and I often ate dulse which I enjoyed when on holiday there from Glasgow. My parents moved back in 1994 when they retired. I recently met men cutting ‘Slope’ at the shore which I haven’t tasted. I’m not sure what that is used for. I very much enjoy your videos which are fascinating insights into many long lost skills , knowledge and traditions. Thank you.
