Historical note about the orthodox dress: The "new" charedim who came to Jerusalem in the 19th century wear mostly black and white. The ones who wear gold and white stripes are known as "Yerushalmim" (Jerusalemites) or "shalmers" in Yiddish slang. They lived in Jerusalem throughout the Middle ages, some even from before the Byzantine era. When the Arabs conquered, they started attacking Jews every so often, so they changed their dress to appear more like Arabs from a distance. The unique dress became a source of pride and tradition because only the Jerusalem Jews wore it, as the Hebron, Safed, Gazan... communities had their own outfit. Therefore, when eventually the Arabs changed their own dress the Jews stuck with it. (By then, the Turks were in control, and they protected Jews from Arabs for the sake of stability and the jizya tax.) Under the Ottoman Empire, Damascus was filled with Jewish textile merchants. When these merchants came to pilgrimage to Jerusalem, they traded with the locals. Hence the Syrian source. Also to be clear, only wearing the combination of linen and wool is prohibited in the Torah. Not, each one individually. Hope this was informational.

My mom and I went to Israel recently and she got a lovely dove tattoo at Razzouks. I got an ancient coin from Ashkelon at the Zak's. Zak was very fun to talk with and he really knows his stuff. Being that I love ancient history I had a great time in his shop perusing the artifacts and talking about their history.

Thank you for this video. I am one of those "older people" Wassim mentioned, who would never get a tattoo. I've been blessed to visit him 3x since 2017. My first tattoo utilized one of the 500yo stamps. I am amazed every time I look at his artwork on my ankles. I highly recommend a visit to Razzouk Tattoo, if only to see the old tools and stamps that are on display.

What a gift you give to honor these talented people and all that came before them. I am very far from Israel, and yet was so touched by this video. In our Amazon and Walmart world, our "made in China" factory produced surroundings, its too easy to forget there are still generations of skilled hands that deserve the spotlight. Im especially in awe of the fabric. Had to pause vid and do screen shots just so I could expand it and really look close at the incredible detail. Wow

Very enjoyable video. I will never get to Israel but your tours are so much better than the "canned" presentations from the Christian tours I've seen. I don't know if I will be able to get your app but it sounds wonderful. Razzouk said his web site and I wish the other had as well. I buy products from all over the world these days so the web sites would have been nice. I understand you right through your goofy accent, Oren. I think I stopped getting head aches trying to understand you a month or two ago! It's nice to see how much you care about your country, your cities and your people. A good man in the right places at the right time to show the goodness of a beautiful country and the myriad people who live there. Bless your cheery self.
