Honestly I'm very into translating. If I would be the one to translate "My Dress-Up Darling" I would make it "Przebierana ukochana" which literally means "dressed-up loved one". For me it's perfect because there is a rhyme in it

Hi, a Pole abroad here! It's so awesome you decided to visit my country, it has so many great places to visit that just one trip won't be enough xd As for the translations of manga titles, I think they are hit or miss most of times - I kind of wish some of the titles were left in their Japanese/English 'versions', although you can clearly see how the translators know the source material and want to show their understanding of it, I highly appreciate it. If you ever find yourself in Lodz, it has great street art everyewhere, go check it out as well. I think they have a Yatta store as well (for video purposes) alongside the local Kitsunebu store, these guys carried the otaku culture well in my city

For me the best part about being Polish (which applies to every other non-English speaking country) is having more possibilities. I understand English well enough to buy stuff from abroad, so when I want to read series that haven't been published in my country, I can easily do so. However, I can also read everything in my native language when it's more convenient. It's truly nice to have this ability.
@baltulielkungsgunarsmiezis9714
No. it doesnt apply to every non english country. Latviešu nation for example numbers only 1,3 million so the ammount of stuff is severely limited. All anime stuff I have is in english.
@adamburakowski42
@adamburakowski42 Год назад
@@baltulielkungsgunarsmiezis9714 I wasn't only talking about anime stuff. Apart from weeb entertainment, speaking Polish allows me to read certain books that wouldn't be translated for an English-speaking audience. Every language offers a new perspective, and because of that, I would like to learn French or German someday. I understand that you may not have had such a positive experience, and I don't want to make any assumptions about you. However, I believe you can also see the advantages of being a non-native English speaker.

Yo, can't believe you were at my local Yatta! I'm also glad you had a great time in Poland. I recently started to look more at the translated titles here and it's super interesting how they do it. I personally read more shoujou manga so that's where "expertise" is. For example Yona of the Dawn (Akatsuki no Yona) became "Yona w Blasku Świtu" which means something like "Yona in the Shine of Dawn". But my favourite translation has to be for My Little Monster (Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun). For the longest time I didn't know what the English title was and when I did find out I was a bit surprised about how, well, unimaginative it sounds. But then I realised it would be very hard to translate that into English literally and make it sounds cool because of the structure of the language. In Polish tho, it was more possible hence we got "Bestia z ławki obok". While the Japanese title means something like "A monter beside (me)/nearby", the Polish one is "The beast from the desk beside (me)/nearby" which virtually means the same thing the Japanese title tried to imply.

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I really wanted to point something out. I very much doubt that you got a good deal on that hotel in Zakopane. Let me explain. Whilst it might have seemed fairly cheap to you considering you got that jacuzzi and sauna acces, it would probably be quite far beyond any ordinary everyday Polish person's financial ballpark. It's not that the hotel is cheap, it's just that Polish currency is weak and country economy is lagging behind USA's. In addition to that, Zakopane is considered to be very overpriced, being a primarily tourism-based place, though this is a generalisation. Excuse me for throwing shade, but to point out something positive, I am glad you could notice the inclusivity of Polish people, as sadly older generations can be really close-minded.

Polish people aren't really blonde haired and blue eyed. That's mostly a Scandinavian thing. Like Swedish people and what not

As a Polish person I am taken a back, because everytime I see Americans and Asians visiting my homeland, because I feel ashamed sometimes of being "Polish", for the all discrimination and homophobia the government propaganda pushes. But what I have the most found memories of my country is the Manga reading and Anime club at my junior high school where I first read Yaoi or BL whatever you call it "Konbini-kun" by Junko and some other extreme 18+ material that... yeah, unless you buy alcohol they don't ask for age. And weirdly enough that was my first time being presented the same-sex relationships theme so openly at 14 and reading those stories I know made me and my classmates open our eyes that your love doesn't have to be the opposite gender of yours. and it's also that I don't understand why Americans scream that YAOI is bad that is the fetish material and not authentic... when that's litterally the genre that is showing Polish youth that love comes in all shapes. Kotori - one of the major manga publishers who mostly do Yaoi, published only one comic series made by Polish mangaka, because we've got a few comic/manga creators here... but most here go into self-publishing and there is not really much to do in this country to "show your voice" to write, to draw about our diversed stories. ALSO, the other thing. The aspect of which I am pround of my country is publishing. And though I just mentioned that most publishers don't care for Polish Comic Manga Artists, they do put a lot of care into the translations. Paper is the nicest quality, comparing to a British published localized manga I purchesed 3 years ago which feels like a toilet paper, the Polish choice is stiff and pretty, and the ink has this quality it smells really nice. And they do redraws for the onomatopeia, replacing them with Polish onomatopoeia something that I for the longest time didn't see English versions doing since recently, well Polish has been doing it for 15 years or so. The favourite one of mine is Polish Publishing of NORAGAMI by Adachitoka, because while dealing with JAPANESE MYTHS AND SHINOISM for a standard Japanese is okay, for your avrage Polish Jan Kowalski [John Smith] it gets confusing, had it not been for the translation which adds on the context and a few additional dialogues PLUS at the back you get the explanaition for the translation choices and Japanese kanji as well shinto. Because localizing NORAGAMI which translates to HOMELESS GOD or SHRINE-LESS GOD into the Polish world reality... I MEAN YATO WEARS TRACKSUIT and drinks and thinks money he is closer to Polish Jan archetype, but it wouldn't make much sence, hence I am happy that some publishers include those "translation notes", because me as a Japanese linguistics major I am fastinated to see someone's brain process and sentence understanding. And it slightly makes me feel happy that I had been born Polish.

I think that hating own country, i mean poland, it's popular and it shows full of complexes. Yes poland can be homofobic as USA and another countries. Americans slave black people, we had multiculti country before it's was popular but yea "we are bad". I know it's rooted in communism when everything from "west" were better, but nigga plz. It's bullshit. When americans slave black people and women, killing natives (american indians) we had "empire" with lithuanian where rights of minorities were respected and women had a lot of more opportunities then in USA. But yea we are close minded. It's a shame that so many young polish people are brainwashed. My advise is simple - learn history - your country and country you worship. In poland if someone is sick or mentally ill he will get some help, it's poor but it exists, in america you become homeless if you are poor. So stop being another NPC. If you don't like polish people move out to america, i recommend poor cities, you will see tolerance and being progressive in practice.

I have to agree with this guy ^ there are also plenty of places in the US and all over the world that are extremely homophobic including the government. if you're ashamed it's only because you have a bias against your own familiarity.

@@bartomiejnozka8992 y'know I would be proud too had our president not call me a pest and an illness for liking women during his speech. I do not wish for our country to become another Germany in 1930 when it was so easy to descriminate someone based on religion and ethnicity.

@@susurakocy_art Thanks for reply. Could you provide me some sort of sentence that I can google so I would watch his speech?
