‪@thereluctantoutdoorsman‬ Paddy, my wife and I take advantage of a slight break in the weather to visit Portelet Bay. Even on a grey, cloudy day the place is beautiful with crashing waves, golden sand and spectacular scenery.
All music by Chris Haugen except for the intro which is by The 126ers.

Thanks for posting. I lived on La Rue Voisin just above the Bay in the 80s. Embarrassing to say I never negotiated the steps so it’s nice to see the beach close up👍

Thanks for the memories of 1961-62-63 when there were no steps, just a dirt track, and the beach was sugar white soft, no rocks or pebbles. I assume there must have been some severe storms with huge waves to remove so much sand?

Hi Ron, yes........I have made a couple of videos at Portelet and the amount of sand on the beach changed dramatically from one video to the next. I presume really high tides either strip the beach or replenish it!

Lovely video. This is a bay we did not get to visit on our recent holiday. Looks like a must for next visit. Thanks for sharing 🙂

Hi John. Great, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm going to have a wander through Millbrook park as I haven't been in it for years and my wife tells me it is lovely. Pontins was on the hill behind the cafe. They knocked it down and built new flats there, which can been seen on the video. Cheers buddy! 👍

Mesmerising footage sir. What’s the history of the round tower on the island?

Thank you so much. The tower on Ile au Guerdain is another Martello Tower, one of many built by the War Office during the Napoleonic Wars. The isle is known as Janvrin's tomb named after a local captain who often sailed to France, but who was not allowed back into the island after the plague epidemic hit France. Esther (his ship) and his crew were forced to moor at Bellecroute Bay. Janvrin died on the second day of his quarantine in 1721 and as his body was not allowed to be brought ashore he was buried on on Ile au Guerdain!
