My first time visiting this old mine and was able to bring everyone along for the ride. Lots of interesting reading on this old mine since paperwork was filed for OME and DMA after world war 2.
I have my waders ready for next time!
Let me know if you like the geology part or would rather I just shut my trap about rocks and show you the mine.

When we were at the Argonaut summer of 2020, we noticed that the main cabin at the mine has deteriorated substantially. Love that place...This is Nell, the wife. We have a cabin at Bourne

My brother just stumbled across your series here. Our grandfather and father would have just loved your exploration videos! I look forward to seeing the rest! The extent of our explorations involved Mt Rainier and an old mine with an amazing two story high chamber just as you entered the lower opening, leading to multiple shafts.

By all means Please do the Geology ! If you have done the study it will add to Your Enjoyment as well as a lot of us . You do quite a bit of work to bring these Vids to us ,so do something that you like as a reward to yourself .

I found something similar to that on the upper head waters on the Powder River and you could see the gold flakes in it, it was that cemented rock.

Ham, Great Vids, You seem to know at least as much, maybe even more than I do about my own back yard, I bin watching your vids for some time an you have been bringing back old memories, I have stomped all of the same ground that you have here in eastern Oregon, I was born an raised in Baker, when it was still Baker, now an again it is Baker City, (Historic Note) I would love to sit and visit over a cup of coffee or whiskey, your choice.

The large pan located below the ball mill is a classifier. Those bars were rocked back and forth while this action let the ore and lighter material separately going in opposite directions. I used to run one of these classifier when I was in my early twenties in a old natural iron ore mine. It was part of six machines used to refine iron ore. All the new iron mines crush the ore to a fine powder and then use magnets to separate the iron out. .

The Mill on Argonaut was made using the parts from Dredge #1 and #2 in Sumpter! Pretty cool. Ham, do you know the process and likelihood of "Organizing" a Mine in NE Oregon to use heavier equipment? Also, who was John Arthur?

Do it the safe way make it an open pit using Amonia Nitrate and some diesel like they do in rock pits for blasting.

Re Canon SL2, image stabilization I have the SL2 with 18-55mm kit lens. It comes with stabilization? What lens were you using? 73 Steve
@HamHomestead
@HamHomestead 6 лет назад
Hi Charles, I am using the kit lens most of the time and do have the stabilization switch on and I can barely notice any difference between it off and on. I have some cheaper camera that do a much better job, though the image quality is not as good for sure.

Wish they hadn't used the name Argonaut, the Argonaut in Jackson is where my Grandpa Steve Pasalich"Skip Tender" was one of the 2 Skip Tender's , plus the Boss that desperately tried to save the 47 men trapped by the fire. Grandpa is quoted in the book 47 down.

The east side of Oregon has LOTS of Granite/Granodiorite. Even a nearby town named Granite because of it.
