Playing with electronics is fun! I have an ESP8266 monitoring the temperature at my office, logging data to the cloud. I have two significant probes. One is on the AC vent and the other records the room temperature. We used our data to get our landlord to adjust our office temperature. Without the temperature graph we were just another tenant whining about the temperature. With the data we had a real story to tell to fully explain the situation. We are now much more comfortable. Data is power! I like the TP-Link devices. They were a good value, unfortunately they were not HomeKit compatible when I got them. I mostly use them as smart timers for lights. I also like the TP-Link smart bulbs. The Hue system seems to require a lot of firmware updates. Since I was mostly using my Hue bulbs with HomeKit I only noticed the updates when I occasionally ran the Hue app. Alexa has potential, but I found that it was not very smart. I have multiple bulbs with different names and I have trouble remembering exactly what they are called and Alex is too dumb to remind me of their names. It is just annoying enough to use that I mostly don't use it. Good wishes on adapting to the new work environment. I hope it is a good experience and look forward to hearing more about it.
