What I'm hearing from some officers on Maui is people getting taken advantage of by local thieves. Smash and grabs on rental cars. A few people were purse statched. People getting all their belongings stolen from Air bbs. I know it's obviously been happening to some degree, but police say they've seen a huge uptick. My cousin came over to visit a few months ago and their rental car was stolen. It was found stripped and burned on Kahekili a week after they left. I think everybody heard about that couple getting car jacked and then chased into the brush by multiple different cars on Piilani. I think people on the mainland are hearing about it. Maui's reputation went down bad.

Born and raised in Hawaii but moved 5 years ago….. my family actually has a chance to grow instead of living in a multi family home. Crooked Politicians, Price Gouging, and over crowdedness are big problems that never seem to get addressed. So sad

As a long term Hawaii visitor I can say you are getting what you wanted. We used to enjoy sitting on the beach in the morning and staying across the road in our condo. The left wing crazies started about 2010 to restrict everything and to ruin all the rest. These idiots called the hedges that stabilized the beach sand “invasive plants” so they ripped them out. The beach was blown by the wind into the ocean and it ruined the coral reef we used to snorkel over in front of that beach. Most of the fish moved on after the reef was destroyed. Then the government went stupid and followed the leftist play book about drugs, crime and homeless. People sleeping in the parks and the beaches and hassling the tourists. Safety went out the window so why would I spend good money to go there if it is not safe anymore. Sorry Hawaii I used to spend a month a year there but not anymore.

Nearly 18% combined GET & TAT taxes on hotels, on top of already high room rates. Jacked up car rentals and food prices. $25 Mai Tai’s. Josh Green wants to add Green Fees just to visit beaches or to land at the airport. And a constant and loud message from many that tourists may be tolerated but not really welcome. I’ve grown tired of being treated like an ATM by Hawaii and have sought and found other places that provide a better experience where I don’t feel like I’m being gauged. Japan, France & Spain have replaced Hawaii for me.

it's expensive to live here, cause it just is. changing the elected isn't going to change that. tourism, the military, and government jobs, plus the jobs that support these industries are pretty much all we have to offer being stuck in the middle of the Pacific Ocean so either learn to live with what you got or just move elsewhere.

Do we need Hawaiian Tourism Authority? Bring back local agriculture and farming. Our current government has made it difficult for everyone to afford the most basic needs, let alone travel. Hawaii get out and vote differently this time around. Our lives depend on it.

Went to honolulu this year, and I loved it.. I will be back for sure. It's worth the money to go for sure.

Many tourists may question the high expenditure associated with visiting locations in Hawaii where the presence of homeless individuals is noticeable, along with litter strewn about and the sight of makeshift shelter tents emitting unpleasant odors. Hawaii locals don’t want tourists. I’d rather spend my money in SE Asia where it’s better and cheaper and the locals are actually quite nice and friendly.

Live in Oregon. Visit Maui and Oahu every other year. Wife had family in Oahu. When I am with my wife. She is Lao. Most people assume she lives there. We get the local discount and we are not harassed. In Maui. We get harassed every time. Told to go home. In Oregon lots of Hawaiians move here. Every one I meet. I tell them to move back home. Then I say. Just kidding. Are you the Hawaiians who tell mainlanders to move back home? I get dirty looks every time.

I don’t feel sorry for them since they were very happy when there were no tourist during Covid. Also the local supposedly hate tourists with a passion and like to chase them away.

I took my family of 7 for 2 weeks in July and August. Waikiki was very slow. But I'm B&R on oahu and was just visiting family. The messaging towards tourist has been very clear to stay away. Not suprised tourism is down with that messaging and on top of that, the increase in crime towards visitors.

Japan is suffering heavily financially right now. Promoting hawaii there might be beating a dead horse. 1 dollar = ~150yen as of now. Until that recovers which takes years, you probably won't see the amount of tourists hawaii once had from the japanese for a while.. They're purposely trying to create inflation right now unlike America where we are trying to fight inflation.

They are very Rude to tourist! Airport employees were very every rude too. We also noticed very rich people build so many new giant houses and they were hoarding some beaches. We tourist come and go but those people will stay with you, they must be very happy you guys scaring away the tourist so island can be theirs and you guys can work for them for cheaper maybe???

The hotel I love staying at has gone up in price by 33% in 5 years. Sorry, not paying that exorbitant amount, but I sure do miss Waikiki.
