The events in the 3DS version takes place two years before the story in Wii U version. This video isn't so much about comparing the graphics of both consoles, per se, but about showing what LEGO city looked like then and how it looks like now, hence why there's a lot of construction going on in the 3DS version.
The peds spawn mostly right infront of you. Not even GTA on psp did that. They should have better optimized it. The 3ds is more powerful then the psp...
The point is to showcase the visual differences between both games. They take place in the same city, but on 3DS the events you play through are 2 years before the Wii U game. Because of this you see lots of landmarks under construction as well as a few other visuals change ups. I personally found it interesting to see 2 games on 2 drastically different machines, with the same world to explore. Which brings us to this video comparison. :)
Could you do a video showcasing other things important to the story? (I have never played the DS version but I want to know if the Blackwell apartment thing was under construction or if nothing had happened with it yet)
Your actually seeing what Lego City looked liked in the past on the Nintendo 3DS and what it looks like in the present time on the Wii U ! Also I think that the colors look sharper and more vibrant on the 3DS game and more toned down but still sharp looking on the Wii U !
this is my rational for the differences :3 being they take place two years apart and city development is a thing, one can logically say "well, lego city of the 3ds game is less built up than the wii u lego city. as for the fog, i like to believe the chase begins takes place in the middle of summer with the heat and smog while wii u takes place in say, spring or winter(*) *- provided Lego City itself is located on Lego USA's west coast
That's true, that having been said, I heard the load times for this are terrible? I love all things LEGO, especially the games and was wondering if this is worth getting (don't have a Wii/Wii U or else I'd get that)
+Protopapas Well, Monster Hunter 4 is a fantastic game and the amount of content is impressive. But visually it's not pretty by any means. The 3DS version of Lego City is a good game as well. Just (as you said) heavily downgraded, but still good looking in my opinon. But it could be worse, look at Jurassic World for the 3DS. Just short fragments of the actual game. It's just bad in every way.
To be honest, the LEGO games for the 3DS are such downgrades it's unreal, when the 3DS is capable of much better. I don't know why they shit all over the 3DS LEGO games to be fair.
I've already got Undercover on the Wii U and after having watched this I'm very tempted to get The Chase Begins in for my 3DS as it's going just over a score on Zavvi this weekend
for the fog in the 3ds game i like to think of it as a thick smog, since lego city itself is like major cities all rolled into one it would make a little sense, plus i like to think its located in Legofornia (lego california), or it can be like that san francisco bay fog, so the fact the 3ds has fog isnt a real deal braker for me, as for the ambiance, i think its pretty fitting, since well, you're in a city and all and a police officer wouldnt be listening to music on the job now would he?
just to be clear, the 3ds version isnt bad. the wii u version simply got way more attention. the 3ds version would have matched the wii u version if it was given 4gigs. but since its less space it will suffer duh! but voice acting on the 3ds version would have made it that much better. the 3ds is still powerful and i hope this opens doors for more open world 3ds games. but both versions look good. the wii u version looks very nice. just wish developers would spend more time on the 3ds versions.
Apart from the fogging in the 3DS ver(which i'm guessing was needed), it looks good. Wii U looks nice as well can't wait to get my hands on both games.
The 3ds has that fogging in the distance to hide graphic pop up and draw in. But you can notice draw in before your eyes for certain objects as you run toward them, but its a minor issue. Graphical flashiness is becoming more and more LESS important as time goes on. Graphics are getting to a point where they look good enough to serve most styles of games and art styles. So innovation and how we play games together, that evolution , is what the future of gaming is about.
Nice :) Nintendo should release more games like these..where we'd have two different versions of the same game, but set in different times or with slightly different storylines. I find that interesting, maybe have like the next 3D Mario installment have some sort of connection between version 3DS and version Wii U, in which Wii U's would obviously be more in depth. Just a thought :))
I've played both the prequel and sequel of Lego City Undercover. Thing is I've only owned the 3DS. I've never owned a Wii U in my life. The only time I had the opportunity to play the sequel was on April 4th when it was released on the next gen consoles. I'm actually glad they relaunched it because people have been complaining about the loading times. Love both games to death
In about 1 - 2 consoles, the handhelds graphics might be as good as the console. Granted here the game looks terrible, but remember the DS? That was worse than the N64's graphics, but now the 3DS looks better than the N64's graphics. I believe that if nintendo manages to make a new console with a leap in graphics like with every new generation; the handheld after 3DS will be fairly close, if not; on par with the Wii's graphics. I mean think about when gta 3, gta vice city and san andreas came out. GTA3's graphics were pretty much the same as the 3DS is right now. And the fact in 5 generations we've come from 2d green pixels to 3d models running around; handhelds can and will become a portable home console. However being able to take your games anywhere is another benefit of the 3ds and Vita. Instead of having to carry around a heavy console, you can enjoy 3d games on the go. I remember back during the PS1 era when kids dreamed of such a thing; and now its here. At the moment the 3ds compared to the WiiU looks terrible, but in 1 - 2 more generations, who knows? It might be on par with them.
MetroidJunkie2007 Well yeah, overall the 3ds surpasses the N64 but on par with gamecube, but in other areas like shading; it still has the potential and capability of current gen consoles. The 3ds should be on par with the WiiU at the moment, but the tiny screen and a portable software means that there are limitations to what the console can do. If you push the 3ds to its limits, it can probably (as you said) be as good as most current gen consoles. That being said, it would use more information and data on the game to display the graphics and the content/gameplay might be affected. So unless the programmer is really good and can make the most of everything; its gameplay or graphics. ^^ That being said, ps1 had amazing graphics on games like final fantasy 7 or digimon world 1. With stunning graphics that challenged even the ps2. So who knows? All I can say here is, the current lego game didn't make the most of what the 3ds can do :)
***** I definitely won't disagree with you, this lego game would barely pass for a Ps2 game and the draw distance with characters is just abysmal. They could've atleast added cubic mapping to the windows on buildings, even C.O.P. Recruit had that much and it was on the Original DS.
MetroidJunkie2007 yeah. A good example of what the 3ds can do in graphics (so far) is Sonic boom 3ds or smash brothers 3ds. Compare that to this lego game. Suddenly the WiiU looks bad ^^
***** I wouldn't go that far, Resident Evil Revelations is probably the best example of shader effects working in tangent on the 3DS and there's a Wii U version that vastly surpasses it graphically. Or do you mean since the Wii U is a home console and this is just a handheld?
mmm Wii U is obviously more powerful, 3DS and a portable console, do you think a portable console can give you a graphic level similar to a fixed console? of course not! though ... PSVita and PS3 ... ha! that's why ... PSVita has been underestimated by Sony itself! while for Wii U we say that people had not even realized that it was not a Wii ... then 3DS came out in 2011 but also PSVita in 2011 ... yes but ... many months later !.
Cool side by side comparison. I played the 3DS version before I ever even got a Wii U. After I beat the story I would change Chase' police outfit to the magician tux with the burglar mask. So now he is a secret agent rather then a cop.
I think the title is a little misleading because it seems you're comparing graphics, but your point is totally valid and the videos turned out great at comparing the city in the different moments. I think it's pretty amazing having an open world game in a handheld, I'm happy to own a 3DS. Another thing that always amazes me is how well the 3DS handles real time shadows, as my experience in PC gaming tells me shadows take quite a chunk of graphics power.
Comparing the 3ds to wiiu version terrible idea, theyre 2 different games one portable and one isnt... I enjoy the 3ds version because its the best lego game that was released for portable look at lego batman 2 then compare..,
I don't think I will be getting the 3DS version unless Nintendo brings the So Many Games! Promotion (that just started for Europe) over to NA. In which case I could buy it and than be qualified for a download code for DKCR 3D or Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
I wouldn't blame him for not wanting to go back to the game with the English release coming out in less than 2 months. Why spend time on your town when you know that soon you will be starting over again in a town where you can actually understand everyone.
No.. Ps3 has better graphics then the Vita and the Wii U has better graphics then the ps3 that's a fact look it up. So how in anyway could the vita beat the wii U. Yeah Vita looks better then 3ds that's it.
C'mon, that's not true--the vita seems fun, but right now, graphics are not its strong point. UMVC seems to be the exception. But you cant honestly say NFS:MW, for example, looks 'better'...than any of its console counterparts.
Ok my Opinion ist that this game is Build on the Hardware of the 3DS and only upscaled for the Wii u. That would explain some Problöems in the Wii U version.
ossea el de la nintendo es mas viejo que el de la wii u por que en el la de la nintendo aparecec trodod eso en contruccion y en la wii u esta contruido todo
Wow. All things considered, the 3DS version looks really nice for imitating the world of the Wii U game! Only the fade-in objects and fog are strange, but they're definitely ignorable.
@@blackvetteface man buy it, its cheap on Ebay it's absolutely incredible. If you are also interested try Cop The Recruit it's made by the people who made Renegade but in Cop the recruit you play as a... cop. And you can exit your vehicles unlike Driver Renegade! Fun Fact: Cop The Recruit was originally called Driver: The Recruit
