Video abstract of original research "Visual migraine aura with or without headache: association with right to left shunt and assessment following transcutaneous closure" published in the open access journal Clinical Ophthalmology by M Khalid Mojadidi, Hamidreza Khessali, Rubine Gevorgyan, et al.
Conclusion: There is an increased prevalence of PFO among patients with migraine aura without headache. The closure of PFO correlates with improvement of the visual aura, suggesting a causative association between the presence of PFO and both visual aura and migraine headaches. Ophthalmologists should be aware of the association of right to left shunts with visual aura.

I’ve had migraines with aura since I was 8 and now I’m 37. Sometimes they’re months apart and sometimes days apart. The aura lasts about 30 minutes. It starts out as a small oval on the left or right side of my vision. Then it slowly grows and moves outward. A sharp migraine usually follows and lasts until I go to sleep. The worst migraines are when I wake up with one in the mornings. I don’t experience an aura however, I assume it happens in my sleep. I was really scared of them when I was younger. Thought the worst like I was going blind or even dying. Now I just live with it. It’s funny, sometimes I feel like I can combat the migraines. For instance, if I’m driving and I see a certain reflection of light, I know to look away because it will bring on a migraine.. I have a twin brother and he doesn’t get them. Guess I drew the short stick

I am 68 and started around 8 years old as well. After reaching 30 they came less and now I don’t have them as often as I did before I went through menopause. As the years have passed the headache is not very painful like it was when I was younger (it was debilitating)now after the aura its less painful but I feel strange and can’t focus. It’s always a little nauseating. Kinda makes me worry about a stroke.

to everyone in here, the closest thing I have found is caffeine. Mine started around age 19 when I got heavy into coffee and energy drinks. I got them to stop for like 6 months a couple of times by limiting my caffeine to just morning coffee, none later in the day. Currently I have been trying to cut back on caffeine again, and I'm getting these migraines like weekly. It may be temporary, part of the caffeine withdrawals, but it's pretty scary because I thought I had this under control. Let me know if any of you can find any link between caffeine and the migraines. I just got my 3rd one in the last few weeks and this really is torture at this point. It has to stop. I'm quitting caffeine completely now. I won't touch it again. Also been eating a lot of dried fruit and heard that can be a trigger too but I don't want to believe that's it...the caffeine is far more likely imo.

This is awful that doctors can't do a better job explaining what is going on. I get migraines (pain), and visual migraines, but its always one or the other. I've instructed my family on what to do if i have a stroke, I've had ems called, anxiety... never knew visual migraine was a thing until randomly came across a video like this one. Best medical system in the world they say, and don't see dr Google, but they don't do their job either. My eye doctor said "it wasn't the TV it was the antenna" this was the best and only medical explanation the media community ever gave me pertaining to visual migraines.

I started to get eye aura's 35 years ago and it culminated to two attacks per day. a friend told me that he viewed a medial documentary which stated that 'caffeine' is bad for your eyes. I was drinking heaps of cups of coffee every day and strong cups. I decided to give all caffeine (even coca cola) away to see what would happen. It has now been over five years and I have never had another aura. I hated the rotten things. Zig zag bolt shapes. Horrible. If you suffer from eye aura's (the zig zag lightning shimmering type) and you drink lots of coffee, then give the coffee (and coca cola) away. You may get one or two more attacks within the next week or so but after the second week you should never ever get another attack. I went to eye specialist after eye specialist and just wasted my money. My cure was so simple.

I contracted histoplasmosis that damaged my retinas resulting in laser surgery and a permanent blind spot in my right eye. A couple years later I started having bizarre visual patterns that were consistently the same each time. It would start as my whole field of vision going "fuzzy" a bit and then it would morph into a hook-shape that would drift across my vision over about 10 minutes. It always started at the exact center of my vision and drifted away in a random direction until it was out of my field of view. Luckily I never really had any headache associated with it. There sometimes was a very distant headache pain but it was very minor. On a 1 to 10 pain scale it was less than a 1. When I described this to my ophthalmologist he suggested it might be an ocular migraine and I thought for sure he was just pulling that out of his butt because he didn't know what the problem was. Then I looked up online what these migraines are like and it's EXACTLY the problem. I had these for a couple years, usually during more stressful times (like if I was having problems at work). Then they suddenly stopped and I haven't had one in about 8 years.

Just in case this mite help, I've had aura migraines on and off for a few years now and recently have discovered that if I exercise/workout when I get it or even after getting it that working out helps me to rid the annoying after effects quicker.. Usually the aura comes on gets higher and bigger lasts for about 15 - 30 mins then the aura goes away and then I have pain between my eyes and a ugly feeling in my stomach for the rest of the day, and usually it ruins my day but now after I said stuff it I'm not gonna stop my day cause if it I'll do a workout and I feel better, not sure why, maybe cause it gets the blood flowing or endorphins or increase mitochondria.. Now in terms of triggers for the aura I'm not quiet sure I've but of recent times I'll write down when it's comes on and what I had done as in, looked at the phone for too long or bright lights like fluorescent lights mite be a trigger or sometimes I've noticed come in when I've had foods like oats/nuts/seeds, not all the time but often when I consume those kinds of foods and maybe from sulphites in those foods..

Each person thinks crazy things about those "floaters" or Ocular Migrane. Someone said it was the coffee and other says "I do not drink coffee and have them. My Doctor says it is "a regular deterioration of the retina and visual system because of age". "Try lots of fruits like "berries" (blue berries, black berries, strawberries) etc. I would say that 's the point I feel better . . . but, is it true?
@waynefilkins8394
@waynefilkins8394 9 месяцев назад
@@carlosrubio7589 I believe it's caffeine-related, but the guy who said it's posture/neck problems may be right too. Idk about the guy who has 0 caffeine and still has them...that worries me a bit. I always believed I could quit caffeine and get away from these things completely. I almost did it and didn't have one for like 6 months. I do think posture is involved though too. Caffeine tightens a lot of muscles up just like bad posture does...so it's not surprising for both to be related to it. My current plan is I'm done with caffeine. I won't touch it again. Going to focus on good posture too. This has to stop...can't live like this anymore. Had them for over 20 years but never 3 in 3 weeks like this pure fking torture.

It will go away, it may return hours, days, or even years later...but...it will not harm you if it's only aura.....I wrote this earlier "You are not alone !!! I started with "the flashes" and bad head aged 8. I thought I was about to die..I never told anyone about it. It has continued throught my life, I am now 82 and still have attacks, some months apart some hours apart. Tried all sorts of suggested cures, nothing works...never found a reason for the attacks so I just live with it."

@@georgestyer2153 me aswell, maybe stress?

@@kysly5093 That is a reasonable assumption as stress comes in many ways and not all explainable. Worry is another element, which of course creates stress. I don't know of a cure as such but many years ago an old lady told me that a small glass of gin with green tea helped her in her later years. I have tried it quite a few times and yes it does reduce the flashing but I did wonder if it just the alcohol or did it really work so I tried a tot of whiskey and that did nothing to help the flashers, so gin and green tea it is. I do hope you will find something that will help you...keep in touch...

Migraines are no fun, that's for sure. 😫 But I've been using Planet Ayurveda medicine, and it's made a significant difference. Highly recommend it to anyone dealing with those persistent headaches!
