This video was great. I just received new springs but wasn't sure about the preload washers. Now I know!

Great video! Clear, precise and easy to understand! One question, can you put different spring rate springs to achieve an overall spring rate?
@ericjaulin9562
@ericjaulin9562 4 года назад
Yes you can, its very common to do to achieve the rate needed.

Good video, Might want to add that these are KYB but other Japanese bikes use Showa too. The reason I say this is because the cap tool changes

Do you always put those preload washers down in the fork I have a 2012 crf250 do those preload wagers go on the fork cup thing not down in the fork..

We bought a used rmz250 set up for a 150lb rider. My kid is 110lb. Can I just change the spring to achieve his riding weight?

Great video!!! 👍 Would it be ok to add a few extra washers to get a little more initial for hold-up?
@dinglesdingler1211
@dinglesdingler1211 Год назад
Yes. Sv650s actually have front fork preload adjustors. Just a screw that compresses the fork spring some. Same idea here but using more washers to add preload. Will steepenthe spring curve though, better to use a softer spring unless youre fat and slow so need soft suspension with good bottoming resistance.

Really excellent. Thank you. Can you please briefly describe the role of the bleed screw and when you use it?
@01AceAlpha
@01AceAlpha 4 года назад
Bleed screw allows any air trapped in the fork to be vented as no seal is perfect. You would want to “bleed” the forks of air before every ride or race. Do this by slowly unscrewing the bleed screw until you hear the air hiss stop. Take note that if there is a lot of trapped air and you unscrew too much the bleed screw can actually pop off and can be lost. Ideally this procedure is done while the bike is on a stand and the suspension is unweighted. Bleed screws can be replaced with “fork bleeders” which are “buttons” that allow this to be done any time without tools! Unwanted air will affect suspension performance. Hope this helps.

@@01AceAlpha Nice. Thank you for your reply. So after you change fork oil, there's no additional bleeding required right away? I guess I'm just curious as to where the extra air is coming from if the bleeding is always happening with the forks unweighted... I had been under the impression that it was more to account for the sag that was going to be present due to the weight of the bike? Thanks again.

Changes in temperature and altitude change the pressure in the fork. Normalize with the bleed screw to get consistent action.

Why would you record your old settings??? Go back to stock settings after your new springs and tune from there.

Is it cool to use amsoil 5w shock therapy in a yz 250 KYB SSS forks? If not whats another good oil? And do i need to change the damping cylinder oil too?
@johnwiggins6114
@johnwiggins6114 5 месяцев назад
Do you account for residual fork oil that is still clinging on inside? Like, 20ml might still be inside so when adding back the oil is this something to consider?

Thank you so much! My 2019 Rmz250 fork is so stiff! How I decide what spring rate to use?

Go to Racetech.com, put in your bike information, and then answer the questions to get recommended spring rates. My springs just arrived today for the same bike.

@@coreymerriam1007 Installation was easy. Just remember to loosen the top triple clamp pinch bolts before trying to loosen the fork caps. I fought with it for a few minutes before I realized my mistake.

What size fork cap tool for this rmz? Thanks
@CW-up7xv
@CW-up7xv 3 года назад
Isn't there a way to do this without draining oil or even taking the forks off? Like isn't there a way to remove top cap and switch springs out? Trying to do this on a yz450f that is brand new and I don't want to pull the fork apart if I don't have to
@dinglesdingler1211
@dinglesdingler1211 Год назад
@Zachary Howell wont work...to pull the cartridge out it comes out the bottom of the fork. Big hole where the rebound adjuster was. Just reuse the oil.
