I’m a little late to the party but I didn’t know Linus tech tips worked on bikes! Jokes aside great articulation from this man, very informative and not too much fluff. Learned a valuable skill in under 11 minutes
I may be missing something, but why do you split the tubes instead of removing dampening bolt, top cap off and pull the cartridge and spring out the top? You'll have to drain the oil, but I think I'd rather that than risk damaging bushings and seals.
Sometimes the bushings get damaged when trying to pull the tubes apart, the 2 bushings get slammed into each other each time you forcefully try to pull the tubes apart. So the bushings need inspected or replaced every time.
hello from Greece! nice video! i have to ask you something... i have an xt660z tenere 2008. before some days i replace the forks with wr426f 2002 forks with the wheel of wr426f of course.. so, i need stifer springs for soure.. im 100 kilos.. what springs to buy to have real smooth riding..? what i must calculate οr see at description of product before i buy?you know.. 46mm are the forks from wr426f.
My forks are different, '90 yz 250..just did my seals but my forks are still sagging about 1"-2"s why is that? Are the springs done? I need a pro opinion ✌️
When you hold the fork up side down, the oil goes inside the fork damper thru the oil hole. Does it come out when the fork is put in up right position?
Good point. You lose a little oil volume in the outer tubes when some oil fills into the top of the inner chamber. When normally doing fork oil changes you are supposed to blow out the excess oil in the top section of the inner chamber.
why would you disturb your fork seals at the track, get dirt in the fork etc , noooo. Just undo the top cap , flip the fork upside down into a clean container, drain the oil for 60 seconds, undo the bottom bolt, undo the dampening rod (as per video) pull the cartridge, swap the spring, put it back together and tip oil back in. 5min max and no risk of damaging fork chrome, seals , bearings. Use electric impact on bottom bolt to undo. when tightening, just use one dugadug. you can hold fork by hand no need to insert axle or vice etc. remember we are doing this between races, at the track . You can run two different springs too a .40 and a .48 makes .44
your vids are great wish you didn’t work for them losers Chapperall they ripped me off a radiator fan I gave them the right info they sent me the wrong one I live in Maine don’t ride in winter I put it on in spring they said to bad it’s over 30 days wouldnt send me the right one pretty scummy I would have understood if I gave them wrong year bike or model but I didn’t other places replace anything when they see how much parts I buy I know I don’t matter to them but they boned me hard so I got a 160 dollar paper weight thanks Chapperall 👍
