Can someone pls explain something I’m new to dirt bikes and I’m breaking my damm head trying to find Information online and I can’t find anything. So I just bought a 2 stroke. Ik the main thing is mixing oil and gas but what other things are needed, do 2 strokes need transmission fluid, break fluid, and gear fluid?? Is it the same fluid for all 3??? Someone pls help me!
@@hectors.6891 If you want technicals look at Ironhorse on youtube. Big guy, Works on chainsaws, snowmobiles and dirtbikes. Ports engines for big power

@@hectors.6891 Which year/model bike? You will need to purchase (atleast) these 2 important things. 1. A oem manual for your bike. 2. A ratio rite cup used for mixing gas. The oil you mix in your gas is different from the clutch oil you will use. Brake fluid is also used and not the same as the other two mentioned. Check the coolant level and make sure the air filter is clean and lubed. Notoil is good.

If every informative dirt bike video on RU-vid was this straight forward, simple, and well explained that would be awesome. This video is very “to the point” and there is no fancy editing or long intro, he’s just telling you what you need to no and nothing more and nothing less. I love it
Thank you. Would balanced suspension be a good topic? Sag and fork height in clamps or suspension settings vs conditions- more /less rebound.... etc?? Thoughts..??
I really enjoy your presentations. In no small part due to your understanding that whilst watching we need not be assaulted by some truly horrible music.
Never, ever rev a cold engine. Most of all wear on a 2 stroke happens when it is below operating temp. I have never checked a reed valve or crank seal unless rebuilding the engine. Compression testing can vary greatly upon elevation, gauges and techniques.
Just curious, this bike looks like it rolled of the showroom floor. Would be interesting to see these tests on a used bike. Maybe this bike gets ridden. But it looks brand new.
Nice video, so im new to dirt bikes. Ive rode harleys for yesrs but recently bought myself a 97 rm125 and i bought my son a four wheeler. I love to ride fast and hard but he doesnt, how can i ride with him without fouling plugs? I went through my carb tonight and found some issues im hoping this fixes it. I do have a stripped bolt on the reed cage but i used a seal all to cover it up good so i dont think im leaking there at all. The float height was was off on the bike or maybe i was reading it wrong. Ill know more tomorrow when i start it.
reed wear and crank seal leaks have nothing to do with compression issues. That's a horrible piece of advice to give, and a very good way to confuse people. If you have low compression on a 2 stroke, its due to worn piston/rings and/or cylinder bore wear. least likely is a head gasket leak. That's it.
Extremely good content. The way information is conveyed is excellent. Clear, concise explanation (s) like this are really appreciated (especially by someone like me who does not have a mechanical background). Please keep content like this coming. Thanks for posting.
1) Air/Oil ratio nice n rich 32:1 2) Run it rich 3) Make sure to mix the fuel in your tank if it sat for more than a day, prob hell to do for quad guys unless they drain the tank and mix in the gas can 4)NO ENGINE BRAKING (I feel like thats how a lot of people😅 blow engines) 5) Going down hill, pull in the clutch and rev the bike to cool the motor. Gas cools the motor and oil lubricates it
Thank you for the video, going to do the checks. My 2018 KTM XCW300 has 90 hours, did a top end rebuild last year at 70 hours, cause we were going to ride in the winter (snowbike) and didn't want any headaches. It ran beautifully in snowbike mode. Now after 2 summer rides bike does not start anymore. I cleaned the carb, checked the reed it looked healthy but i will look again. Last ride, it started and idled perfectly, after 15-20 minutes of riding, bike dies. i Wait a minute, bike starts then runs for less time, same pattern 10-20 times, then the bike dies and won't start. Fully charged battery, cleaned carb, bike no longer starts. Spark plug is 1 ride old. Battery was new, now one ride old had to recharge the new battery after ride. I will check for leaks as you mention and I'll look at the reed again. If you have any other suggestions would appreciate it. Did the compression test and after 10-15 kick starter attempts I am getting 190, so I assume the compression is fine. Need to check the reed valve...
Awesome video 🔥very informative 😎I want a 2 stroke but have been deciding between a 150 Honda and 85 whatever. But everyone said 2 strokes were a pain. This made me realize it’s not. It’s simple. Especially the way you explained it. Great job brother. 💪🏽 now I’m definitely getting the RM-85 😎 keep up the good work and keep riding bro 💪🏽💯🔥
I like the info I just bought a 1981 Honda CR250r Elsinore first year of water cooled all rebuilt and the Power Band can hurt you LOL you have to hang on
i really think you are wrong about the reeds. theres compression on cranc case when theyre not open so theres no matter if they have some gap when you checking them. ?
Could you do a video where you explain how to exactly measure your oil to mix with your gassoline a friend of mine destroyed his cilinder when he completely openend the throttle and i dont want that to happen to me
Really helpful video. Is this something you would encourage checking when looking at a bike before handing over the funds? Or is it a little bit too much? Thanks, thumbs up.
Hey, nice informative video. I have a 2019 KTM 300xc-w TPI and have heard a number of people removing the radiator thermostat in them, is this prudent to do in your opinion? Thanks
my 3rd hour riding my new ktm 300xcw, the reed valve snapped (cause im just going so fast), cylinder chewed it up, ktm gave me a full engine rebuild... "will go into the cylinder and cause some problems"... yeah right smh
Can you cover fuel mix ratios? I have an 1982 RM250 and 2002 RM250 should the fuel be mixed different bike years. As a slower rider what is the best ratio?
More videos like this one and the new ARC levers video!! Very very informative and keeps it to where we can do some of the work ourselves instead of taking it to a dealership or mechanic!! Love these kind of videos and this guy is very very knowledgeable!!!
Great video. I have an ktm 250 sx from 2019. Do you have some tech tips or mods to make it run better? I would prefer an better throttle response and a wider rev range. Thanks

Gear fluid and transmission fluid are the same for a 2stroke. Brake fluid should all be dot 4 or higher on most bikes. 2 strokes do not have oil like a 4 stroke. It lubricates with mixing the oil and gas. Ie: 32:1 or 40:1 etc. Transmission fluid on a 2 stroke should be changed more frequently especially if you ride hard and a lot. If you bike has oil injection, you don't need to use pre mixed gas. Just add regular gas and make sure the oil tank has 2 stroke oil in it and is topped up.
2 strokes are fun as hell to ride. But shit them selves alot easier then 4 strokes that's the only thing I don't like about them. Need to check and inspect things more often.
How so? No cam tensioner/valve clearance to worry about on a 2 stroke and piston and ring can be done at home. Speak to most bike mechanics as they'll tell you most modern day 2 strokes with oil mixers are a dream to work on.
I have 09 crf250r and fk me is she high maintenance. I am looking forward to 2st. At least you have a reason to work on head instead of adjustment every 15hrs
