Was this an upset tho? Vito was raised by a world champion. He’s been on the path to be an Olympic champ his whole life. I think Nick has a bigger name because he’s bigger in folk style
Every time suriano tries to tell the ref the other guy attacks so the ref doesnt say anything but you would think the ref would at least look to see if he is greasing..
He will his senior year, he is only going into his sophomore eligibility season. As long as he is a different weight than fix his senior year, and possibly even his junior year, he could win it . Spencer will be gone for Vitos junior and senior season. Certainly possible he wins a title at some point I agree.
can anybody explain how Suriano blocked that shot at 2:03 that put him in such good position? He only keeps 1 hand on Vito and just sort of side steps. I had thought that maybe Vito just took a bad shot but guys at this high of level wouldn't put themselves in that bad of position I don't think.
It was just great defense from Suriano. He blocked the elbow pass well and circled really hard instead of just back strait up. Which is probably what Vito expected. That shallow shot is very safe again opponents who just back straight up.
Vito took a shot and reached with his right hand, but at the same time Suriano just happened to have Stepped aside and Vito Missed surianos leg, which threw Vito off and suriano blasts with a double leg. Could be wrestlers instincts or a happy accident. 🤼♂️
Arujau is just a much better wrestler. Suriano was great in high school (well he won the super32 once in 2015). He just never leveled up to be great in college. Tough wrestler, just not a technician. I think he now has 8 losses in college and he's labeled a serial quitter. Announced he was quitting Penn State after he lost to Gilam, he quit the trials after Tomasello ate his lunch, quit Rutgers after the frist season but promised to give it one more chance, he lost his first reak match at Michigan so we all guess he's quitting them next... never make at the Olympic level because he's had no real coaching except at Penn State.
Suriano never great in College !! Wrestled 3 NCAA's made 3 Finals !! Won 2 NCAA Championships ..Not very good ! Was on cructhes week before the one he lost ;and still made finals ..5th year Gillman squeeked by true freshman Suriano 3-2 and Gillman ran away entire 3rd period ..Suriano blew out ankle wrestling Picc. and if he didn't; He would of won another NCAA as he could of wrestled Cruz 50 times and won all 50 unlike Gillman ..Doctors told him he was done for the year impossible to wrestle could have serious damage if he did .But Penn St made him enter and ended up forfieting out ..at pre-NCAA coaches press conference .all the coaches gave sympathy when asked about Surriano not being able to wrestle and when they asked cael he says "Ohhhh poor Nick " Is this all we are gonna talk about " ...Suriano left Penn St. after that ...Suriano had 7 losses 3 were medical forfiets ..Mincic beat him 3-2 Desanto and Fix needed the refs to beat him ..giving them points they could never earn on the mat for 'hands to the face , touching the head gear ......Suriano was an All Time great and Vito can't make 3 finals like he did and at best can tie his amount of Tittles
This was NOT an upset. As soon as Suriano quit Penn State after his loss to Gilman the whole world knew he would never be a 4X NCAA champ. Even in his "undefeated" high school days he lost to underclassman Spencer Lee at the Super32 and never returned.
@@sabrewolf9567 He is the 2019 133 lb. NCAA D1 National Champion. Go try, and take that from him. Good luck, and God Speed. You are going to need both.
Orlando I give him all the respect he won basically the deepest weight ever, mad respect. But still kind of funny he lost to DeSantos who is almost identical to him in personality.
Surriano is going to have to really change his game to crossover to freestyle. His entire technique is about stalling to conserve energy, but he doesn't look like he's stalling in folkstyle because he takes space and controls the center. In freestyle, you have to create action. He's going to make an awesome MMA fighter for sure. An eventual UFC champ no doubt, but he will never represent the U.S. at a World Championship or Olympics. Haters please don't tell me that I don't know anything about wrestling until he represents the U.S. at the Olympics or World Championships. I hate getting notifications for negativity. It's just my opinion.
I love Nick Suriano, and watched him wrestle all 4 years at my Alma Mater (Bergen Catholic). However, you are right. He only wrestled one Freestyle tournament while in H.S. (He lost a tough 1-1 decision to Daton Fix.) Had he wrestled more Freestyle in H.S., he would definitely be more seasoned. That stated, he needs to keep hitting the mat in Freestyle to improve. So much so, it would not surprise me if, he discontinued College wrestling to pursue Freestyle on a full-time basis. Time will tell. You make a great point.
@@7mikepd M.M.A. is definitely his goal. He definitely has the mental & physical toughness, and fortitude. I wish I had a quarter of what Nick has. I would have done better than 4th in my State District my Senior year. I hope Nick does not try starting at the top in M.M.A. like Pico. I was at Madison Square Garden when he got drilled in the jaw inside the first minute of the fight. The only problem is Nick has never been one to start anything on the bottom. 😆
He lost this match to a take down which is both freestyle and folk style , so if he had more freestyle experience, would it make a difference in today’s (freestyle) match
@@naturalpro2003 Yea Pico is getting it together now. It's good to see him taking care of that cabeza a little more. I think he was so eager to show of his knock out power that he had to learn how to be a professional, and then Greg Jackson was like okay wrestle, and then he was like only wrestling and so he was predictable. Greg Jackson has him looking good now. I don't think Surriano is going to have that problem. Even just starting his career being 4 years older than when Pico started his career will be a big difference. Pico was just a baby in his first MMA fight. His last two fights he made look easy. And now he an MMA coaching legend. Oh my gosh I would love to work under greg jackson.
@@8326nazir He has to open up more in freestyle which forces him into making mistakes. In collegiate, you are not considered passive as long as you are controlling the center of the mat, and Nick is awesome at controlling the center. It is not a bad strategy to just control the center, play defense, and have no intention of shooting until later in the 3rd period. I would even say the shot clock helped him get the takedown he got on Vito because he caught vito off guard because Vito was waiting for the extra 3 seconds to tick off to get his that extra point. I only suggest greco because the posture is very good for MMA. It gets you in the habit of wrestling with the posture of a striker. Chael Sonnen explains it well. I don't agree with everything he says in this video, but I really agree with him on this point, starting at 4:15: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xISgd_udSRA.html
@@lawsonransom8318 yea i didnt think arujau actually pushed the pace of the fight it was really suriano who dictated the fight imo, which is why it sucks that he loses to criteria
