she looks pretty in this interview and much softer than in other photographs where she looks rough. Money certainly didn't bring her happiness although I do believe she found a degree of contentment and reconciliation to her tumultuous past in later life. And I am pleased about that. There is something very likeable about her. Perhaps it is that she was weathered the storm the pools win brought to return to her roots and lost her husband in the process. A story that still resonates and fascinates.
My grandma grew up with Viv but she didn’t speak kindly about her no one did..If you type in castleford pram race you can see they use her car to transport the prom Queen in the 60s..I didn’t know her personally but would see her before she died delivering church leaflets from door to door bless her ❤
The absolutely fascinating life of Viv Nicholson...the problems of winning a huge amount of money in itself when you've been broke all your life and then having to deal with the bitterness and jealousy of the people from her own community. Her personal relationships before and after this interview. Hounded by the press, enjoying reporting on her struggles and her becoming addicted to spending money. Soon of course the money was gone and she seemed to stagger from one crisis to another. A real tragedy.
It must have been hard being the 1st pools winner, the jealousy of other people back then would have been a thousand times worse than winning the lottery now and it ruined the family unfortunately

Back in the 50's, Alan Whicker did an interview with my then Headmaster, Mr E Hooper, the school taught the Cornish language. Alan Whicker chose me to read in Cornish which I did and I would love to see this piece of footage . it was shown on the BBC Tonight program and I think the year was 1956 or thereabouts, any info on this was be so appreciated. The man she loved had died and then the tax authorities had taken 90% of his money. Hardly surprising she was unhappy. She deserved sympathy not criticism.
A lot of people don't want to win thousands or millions they just want to win enough in case they get big utility bill I myself personally would be happy with a couple of 100 thousand not 10 million it's too much money when you haven't been used to it
She right when you win money people always say if i had her or his money Id buy this id buy that. What the hell as it go to do with other people what you buy. And if you got a big win you buy what you like. not what other people likes You do fine Friends some you never seen in your life but they your friend. They the one you go to watch best thing to do is say nothing if you win big move away Slowly Don.t worry what other say about you it your life. you live where you like to live.
She didn't though. They had spend less than half of it when Keith was killed. Due to him having taken poor financial advice most of the rest was lost to taxes. It was not her fault.
And Viv did just that. A working class girl that hit gold. I’m sure she would have preferred being a miserable rich lass than a happy skint one. I always liked her and would have loved to have met her. God bless Viv. X
Who are you to call her "vile"? She wanted her children to have a good education and a better life. It may not have been the best thing to do but she thought it was best for them. Her son understood it even if you don't.
