These 1.6 Biturbo EGR valves can seize in the inlet manifold.
This method works for me to remove them with very little dismantling.
2016 1.6 Biturbo EGR 1.

I've heard of people having to remove or replace the inlet manifold because they're so seized in there. 😧

Tried this, still can't get any movement even with some serious force on a slide hammer. Suspect I'll have to take it to the garage but have no idea how they're going to get it out... Suspect it's aluminium surface to steel surface as well as carbon holding it in...

What fault code did you have for this? Got a 1.6 biturbo vivaro with exhaust pressure sensor and exhaust gas recirculation throttle control circuit faults. Am thinking the pressure sensor is at failure ?

Code was P0488 . There may be other codes relating to the front egr valve as well though.

It might be. A lot of people wont take this on now it's been mapped. So many variables now and your second guessing what the map has done.

With out the slide hammer it’s rather tricky as the alloy body snaps off after a while. Replacing the inlet manifold now. As it’s snapped off and seized in.

£175 with a £25 gasket. A lot cheaper then they used to be at nearing £700 two years ago.

I came across your video because the trafic i'm preparing for sale just got an error code on the dash that the start/stop isn't functioning. After scanning the codes it gave a P0488 which indicates this very EGR valve is stuck. Since i'm selling the van i don't want to spend a shitload of money on a new EGR valve just to get rid of it. It has no CEL or nothing, just the start/stop error. Now, would i be able to get it freed by taking the plastic cover off, with the valve still in the intake manifold? (yea, i tried taking it out, it's properly stuck) I just want this thing to be error free so i can get it through inspection. (MOT) Whatever happens afterwards, well, thats the next guy's problem. 🤷‍♂😂 There isn't much info out there on dismantling one of those.

Not sure. You might end up with some springs and cogs in pieces 😲. If your lucky you might be able to free it up a bit but your out on your own in this one. Be sure to update us if you sort it. Good luck 🤞😁

Yea, I'd much rather have a look inside before I start to take it apart, to prevent (as you said) it from exploding into a thousand pieces all over the engine bay, and ending up having to buy a new one after all, just because I don't know what I'm getting in to.. Ugh... Goddamn modern diesels with their emissions crap... Oh well, I'll bite the bullet, I guess.. Wish me luck.. 😂

​​@@Automotive_Solutions well, I fixed it. But man, it was a bitch... The axle puller wasn't available anymore, so I had to improvise with how to mount my slider hammer to the valve.. Yea, it wasn't a pretty sight. I had to resort to my trusty drill to get the tension off.. And.. It came out in a gazillion pieces.. I did manage to get the cover off, and you might get the actual valve loose, but I don't think it's gonna last long. So, if you're in my situation and you need this valve replaced: good luck, you're gonna need it... And screw you, renault.. For this absolutely dogshit design.. Your engineers really must hate mechanics... But hey, because I did it myself, I saved around 800 euro in garage labor cost 👍🏻😂

What kind of fault would you get if your egr is seized ? My van just has now power at all driving round in gear 4 most the time

Engine light was on and slight hesitation now and again. You'd need to get it looked at as it could be loads of things.

My question is.. If the EGR valv needs constant cleaning and replacing why the bloomin heck have they made is so blooming hard to remove! 😳

Love the video BTW. Thanks for sharing. If your replacing the egr valve is there any use in using anti seize spray on it? Help get it in stuck?

Can't remember the mileage of the one in the video but the vehicle has now covered around 170k and only had one egr. Pretty normal for a lot of diesels. I didn't add any anti seize but can't see it doing any harm. This is not the best engine for access to many components. 👍😁

Thanks, you need to get it properly diagnosed rather than swapping parts. It'll be cheaper in the long run. 👍

On the bi turbo engine it's down the back of the engine behind the dpf and not easy to see or access ☹️.

@@Automotive_Solutions yes defo a Bxtch, have done egr like you said, but when start van without it instlled runs, so now onwards to bi turbo cooler, since seems a blockage struggling to see how to get to it without dropping engine

@@Automotive_Solutions Valeo put M6 threads in to help you remove from its already tight housing, Renault cover the hole with a bolt that can’t be taken out unless you take out the EGR valve 👍🏽. Nice one
