I have a Vive 1.0 since launch and have been happy with it (its software that needs to catch up of anything) If it drops in price I'll grab one. But £799 for the headset alone is way too steep for me as I'm broke. If the Pro (1.5) was wireless or had a better FOV id be more way more tempted at this price. I'd think from my perspective they should have released the 1.5 at £499 headset only and 1.0 £499 all in. I'm going to do what I initially intended and wait for the Vive 2.0. I can enjoy VR in my 1.0 happily enough for the time being.

Not for me because I'd not only have to buy the headset but upgrade my PC too... will definitely get the Wireless though.I think it makes sense for HTC to release a product for the Pro/Arcade market as that is probably their largest revenue stream. I'm sure home consumers will get the tech in good time anyway.

Not surprised that you've got one already. Your video with Barnacles is the reason why a lot of people bought the Vive including myself (no regrets whatsoever), My guess is they did not get as many preorders as they were expecting and they are looking for boosts. Yes, I'm really salty about that $800 + tax price tag.

Very excited to hear what you think of it. I tried one at CES. Distant details and fine text were definitely a step up from the Vive 1. I'd be very excited to try it with a different game (I ran through an Intel demo with TERRIBLE locomotion).

The other thing I'm curious about is if the lens housings of the Pro are the same dimensions as those of the original Vive, the reason for asking is for those who have prescription lens inserts (VR Lens Lab) for their Vive, I'd be curious to know if they will fit the Pro or will new prescription lenses be needed when they become available?

Is this one is easy to scratch lenses? The other was and don't feel rebuying another VIVE if they release it like a COD game.

i don't really care about the price but just the fact I can't sell my htc vive 1.0 because I have to use all my old controllers and lighthouses throws a wrench into it. Honestly i thought the new one came with the wireless adapter which then it would be worth it all until I read it. Regardless people will buy it even if they bitch about it because they don't want to have old tech, too bad we can't get a true 4k yet (from htc). I have no information on what it actually costs to develop a headset like the pro and maybe the new screens doubled manufacturing cost? is there any improvement on screen door effect?

LOL, not trying to rain on the Pro parade but the one thing that might become a problem is the proprietary cable as compared to standard cable with the Vive. The reason I am saying this is for trouble shooting, with the Vive, you can use standard cables to bypass the link box to find out if you have a bad Vive cable, link box or a SteamVR problem. This will not be possible with the proprietary cable and new link box. Also it might be a good idea to have a spare Pro cable lying around for die hard VR users of the Pro just in case you need to trouble shoot or the original cable goes bad. Just my thoughts. Otherwise the Pro looks really good.

How long is the cable? With my setup, I need to extend the 3-in-1 cable, which is easy enough, since it's three standard connectors at each end. (Albeit a bit hit & miss with different quality extension cables and the lengths involved.) If they're sticking a proprietary connector on the end now then there's no way to extend that, so I hope they've made the standard cable longer than the old one, or that they're going to sell longer versions. Roll on wireless, I guess. Thanks for showing us this!

It seems all the haters are existing vive users, but for people considering to buy a full kit, the Pro Kit isn't THAT much more than buying a vive kit considering you need to set aside about a grand either way. Sure i could buy me another 4K huge monitor with the money saved, but settling for an older vive + wireless headset... You know what has me almost ready on the trigger to buy a vive/vivePro? It seems to be the ONLY VR ready kit out there with fairly decent full body tracking. I've been researching for days for other full body tracking options, but they either aren't out yet, are of equivalent price or higher as Vive Pro, or are faulty, glitchy or unstable in some way. If anyone has other solutions i welcome them gladly. I still haven't pulled the trigger.

I'm up voting the video and the RU-vidr, not the HTC Vive pro.

no point in upgrading for the average user. there really isnt much of a upgrade over the stock one for someone who is already invested in there normal vive like me. the resolution is just a isnt enough of a upgrade to deep it a upgrade.

Yeah the fact that the headset price ALONE is $800 is just disgraceful. I remember paying like 750 on Ebay for a just barely used HTC VIVE AND I thought that was somewhat expensive but this... This is just stupid asf. On top of this, it still doesn't come with a TP Cast wireless adapter or whatever right out the box! How were they not able to throw that in at such a price? I think I'll pass and/or wait for it to go down really low. Seriously. On Ebay I've seen the HTC VIVE 1.0 selling as low as $200 - $300 right now and some are even new (most are BARELY USED and have everything they came with.) *No way I'm buying a 800 dollar HMD just to see HTC themselves drop it to probably $400 by just Late 2019. Do they by any chance have financing options? I won't be comfortable dropping $800 all at once for this bullshit but I guess it'd be okay if I was paying maybe $100 a Month for it for 8 Months. That kind of somewhat softens the blow/BS IMO.

Proprietary cables mean locked in consumers having to pay high prices for replacements. I'm trusting HTC less and less these days.

To the song of 800 bucks assuming you have an old VIVE with the lighthouses and controllers. If not it's 500 for the regular VIVE and then 800 for just the headset. That's 1300 bucks. Why the hell would I buy this over a Samsung Odyssey???
