Wow Hayley, what an amazing transformation! The second version is fabulous on you and the fabric is beautiful😍 You made the right call, no doubt about it. I love watching you sew, you’re so calm, patient and methodical whilst sewing that you always make me want to sew!😊
What a clever girl! I agree the second version is much better and you look FABULOUS! Just shows where a bit of ingenuity and determination gets you. ***** xxxLyn
The dress is so lovely, and you're right, floaty is you! Well done!! I'll call that dress the phoenix and I absolutely love the ingenuity behind the make!!! Thank you so much for your thoughts and showing us those valuable techniques!! xx
Hayley...what an awesome vlog!!! Thank you so much for slowly and clearly going through the french seam , laying in the sleeves flat on a woven and very new to me the interfacing method. Makes so much sense...only half way through your lovely video...have to go to bed but wanted to make sure you knew how much I appreciate your tips...will look forward to the rest tomorrow and your other vlogs. xx Karen
So excited to learn that new interfacing technique!! I don't have an overlocker and it's fun to know something besides pinking and zigzag. Your dress is very pretty on you!
Those of us with Pear body shapes just feel better with a fuller skirt. Good to know when I make mine, because I also love this pattern and bought it. Luckily we sew, and can hack patterns to suit our bodies better😊
Lovely sew and you have inspired me to sew up the fabric I have washed it. Love your vlogs and we don’t suit everything but well done for rescuing it you look great ❤❤
Lucky you had the extra fabric to remake what didn't work for you. Huge improvement, and so flattering. Looks a little big in the waist, perhaps a thin elastic casing to pull it in and add a bit of gathering there? But regardless of that, this dress will be one you reach for frequently and receive compliments every time you do so. Well done you
I used that interfacing technique in the 90s. I had forgotten about it. Thanks for reminding me. You can often but not always set in a sleeve flat. depends on the circumference of the armhole and the fit. Love the circle skirt. I need to try that on a shirtdress I am currently unhappy with...
Great rescue, so glad you were able to save it. I believe the flat felled seam is used here because it is a very durable seam finish and where the skirt meets the bodice is are area with a lot of weight/stress on it.
So amazing! I also do not like shirt dresses but…I am making another one right now! lol. I am trying the Silversaga Juliette dress. I am having to adjust it to my size with a FBA and adding at the waist too but with the elastic neckline with no collar but button up front and pleats at the waist, I hope I like this style of shirt dress. I don’t like collars anymore. My style has changed a lot as I now prefer a looser fit instead of a tailored fit. I have had this dress in my head for a long time and now an interview has pushed me to make it now. Wish me luck!
I thought the original dress looked good on you, but WOW! The final one definitely looks AMAZING on you and I instantly knew what you meant by the first one aging you.
My sewing machine/overlooking mechanic would have a heart attack, hearing your suggestion to knot your overlooked threads and stitching through. He mentioned it's very damaging for your tension discs.
