Ooo definitely the darling buds of may one! That will be stunning. The stripe will be a great classic too, but that gorgeous green and white will be so crisp and fresh 💚🤍👌
I’ve been seeing a lot of videos where drawstrings are added to an elasticized waistband. I’ve never understood the concept. Just go with the elasticized waist. I can’t wait to make pyjamas with this material!
You didn’t mention that left-handed sewists must have left-handed scissors. Fiscar make ones the same design to the you showed which have the sharp side the other way n. They are red not orange.
I've struggled finding the right marking pen/tool/chalk. I have an air erasable pen but worry that I will leave my half made garment too long (I sometimes don't feel like sewing so the job can be on my table for days!) and when I come back the mark will have faded. Occasionally I get a fabric that will not take any mark. I have two chalk wheels and they just brush off straight away. Ordinary chalk sometimes doesn't leave a mark. Frixion pens aren't too bad, but if you press a seam the mark is gone. I've just bought a Prym chalk pencil set, wondering if I am wasting more money on stuff that doesn't work, but having done a test on a few fabrics I feel that this is going to be the one! For pins I recently discovered Magic Pins - not cheap but very good, as I can pick them up easily and hold them well, as I have a slight tremor in my hands. When I started sewing back in the day, I knew the seam ripper as a quick-unpick!
Sounds like you’ve done some great experimenting with different ways of marking… I get what you mean about not sewing for a few days and then trying to find the marks. Perhaps tailors tacks with threads in some instances would work?
Thank you…..I’m not a total beginner, but it’s years since I’ve done any ( tho I just made a dress recently….in a fashion 🙈)……I do get confused about the different threads I’m supposed to use for different projects 🥴. Love your channel & how you explain stuff x
Hi Hayley, I came across your channel through Ruan from the Yorkshire Sew Girl, I have been wanting to learn to sew for a while and now, I am a complete novice but have spare time and a bit more dosh now the nesters are flying! I have just signed up for your subscription boxes, booked my self lessons for complete beginners and my husband has bought me a sewing machine for our anniversary. I want to say thank you to you for your amazing videos and the other lovely people in your crowd for inspiring me to have a go. Lindsey x
Welcome to the sewing community. We are relatively new sewists too. We love our Sew Hayley Jane subscription boxes. You will not regret starting your sewing journey, but I warn you it comes with many addictions. Fabric collecting, subscription boxes, watching sewing vlogs, collecting cute labels and bias binding. I'm sure the list goes on. Happy sewing Kelly & Dee xxx
I am totally going to copy this Hayley, I hope you don’t mind 😁 I’ve been swooning over the Jenna since it came out and you’ve given me the final push I needed. Also hopped onto your outlet store before the vlog had even finished and snapped up some of this fabric! Can’t wait to get it made and be a Sew Hayley Jane fan girl 🤩
Lovely blouse thank you for sharing. I have the Kalle shirt pattern so will consider making that in some glorious cotton I have. I like your striped fabric, think that will look cool too.
I tried the Hughes dress and although I fitted into one their standard measurements it was still a disaster! Instead I have found the Shelby dress absolutely perfect 👌
You might like to look at the Upland Trousers by Itch to Stitch. I'm plus sized and the pair I made fitted me perfectly, rise and all, with no alterations. I am planning on making another pair with the green fabric which was in your box with the Tilly and the Buttons pants pattern. It's winter here in New Zealand so the green will make a lovely spring colour. Take care.
Have you seen the Chalk and Notch Isle trousers/jeans? You may be able to get a better fit more easily with the Isle because the waist has darts you can adjust and no waistband. Also, the front has patch pockets so easier to grade. I have made two pairs and the instructions are great!
I found this so helpful as I am also plus size. The soi tee shirt looks stunning on you.The cut is so flattering on you and I love the sleeve length. The blue dress looked lovely on you.If you decide to make it again you could always place the pattern pieces on top of the made dress to help remind you of how you altered it. I remember you starting your business, many years ago, before others.I am so pleased to see how you have developed and grown.
Hi, all beautiful makes - in particular the blue cloud t shirt and that fabulous dress. I am planning to sew up a few dresses for our summer later on this year. I find it easier to eliminate the pockets when sewing up a new trouser pattern - and then once I am happy with the fit, I reintroduce the pockets. So good luck with your next trouser project. A tried and true trouser pattern is just pure gold. Happy sewing. 🌸
Thanks a bunch, friend. Already have shortened some new Levi jeans from 34 inseam to 31 inseam for my friend's husband. She said he was so pleased how they looked, that she brought another pair for me to alter..
Karina of Lifting Pins & Needles has fabulously simple and very well explained videos on increasing front and back rise and she shows grading of pattern using all the pattern pieces which is so simple …. I’m sure you’ll be impressed
Just made my first dress after about 40 yrs! It’s huge but I love it! 😂 it’s supposed to be loose & roomy, but I think I might need to alter a wee bit…….thank you for the inspiration ❤
I would love to order your boxes but I live in the US and I'm not sure of shipping costs. Would you tell me the cost of the Classic box with shipping to US?
Of course, it’s £40 for a Classic box and an extra £17.50 for tracked international shipping. It’ll change a little each time depending on the exchange rate - currently that equals $72.74
