Since I'm using the VKB's for about three months now and had the drifting issue in 3.16 even after calibrating properly.. i wanted to ask wether you still have the issue? Since 3.17 it's gone for me.
I have these Gladiators (but just a standard grip on left) and love them. Transforms the level of immersion to a point which makes star citizen feel like a “pro game”. Landing becomes intuitive and flowing. No point imho in spending hundreds of dollars on ships without adding a good controller setup like this.
How is strafing with a non-tilted left stick? For the right it makes sense because you want two horizontal axes, roll and yaw are both sideways, but for strafing you need two vertical because of strafing up and strafing forward, so if it's not tilted, for example you would need twist strafe either up or forward which is bizarre to imagine.
beauty is : if you buy the EVO omnithrottle as your left stick , you can configure that to be a "classic " throttle for flight sims OR configure it for space sims
That's why I think it will be my first stick. Going to either get just that and do left hand on stick right on mouse, or I'm going to buy a super cheap stick for right and upgrade it later if I'm really into using sticks. I'd rather go pretty expensive on one and dirt cheap on the other than get two super mid sticks.
Whats up Grumpy. I started having the drifting problem on my left NXT about a year after I got it. I found out the magnet in the gimbal can come loose. All you need to do is take it apart and use some superglue. It has fixed my drift problem. If you use the lightest springs, there is a lighter grease you can use if the standard grease us too heavy. The EVOs have clutches and ball bearings so you don't have to mess with the grease.
Thanks for the Review grumpy. I am ordering a VLB Left hand NXT EVO to complement my very nice Winwing/MFG setup. For flight i have the orion with F-16 grips (more buttons) and Throttle has F15E grips (more buttons again).Trying to use the throttle is a bit complex in Star Citizen. Currently i have strafe left right on rudder toe brakes RH thottle is thrust? left is speed control... I have button assigned for to toggle forward / reverse. ... With this new stick i will a more normal layout of left stick for strafe up/down & left/right. MFG Rudders are yaw (i will keep the flight conventions of yaw/roll). MFG Rudder toe brakes will be forward / reverse like a car. Right is forward / Left is reverse. Winwing flight stick will be unchanged controlling pitch and roll. When playing DCS i will use my Winwing throttle.
You can use different springs for different axes to provide different resistances to simulate the speed of each axis of movement. Example, lighter springs for roll, medium springs for pitch and heavier springs for yaw. A cheap simulation of force feedback.
Quick note on ESP (Enhanced Stick Precision) it basically, slows down your stick as you aim off target, so as you get on target you go full speed the more you up ESP the harder it is to pull you aim OFF target, like if you're trying to run or trying to pre-aim
How did I miss this video. The vkb's are a solid stick. Hard to beat bang for buck wise. I have the t-rudder pedals and can vouch for em. Most people use them for roll but I have them for back and forth thrust. I find it much easier to stay on target and match speed with em.
@@g_l_0_0_m55 it's subjective but I notice a difference when I do use my pedals for both immersion and ease of matching speeds chasing down an enemy in combat. The vkb pedals don't have are not ruddar pedals so your short some inputs compared to other offerings. Most configure their pedals for rolling left and right on each input. I personally have mine setup for forward and reverse similar to a car. In this config it free's up my hand for other functions like drinking coffee or in flight stuff. And as mentioned I find it easier to tail an enemy using my feet to adjust my speed on the fly. For the number of input's gained they aren't cheap and I'd only suggest picking them up if you want a more realistic experience and to up your combat game. I also recommend voice attack software and game glass to be paired with any hosas setup. Head and eye tracking is also a nice to have.
I've had Virpil and now VKB (2x gunfighter bases with space combat edition stick on the left and MCG ultimate on the right) I can say the VKB is superior in every way, even the sales/shipping is better, on east coast and took 4 days. The gunfighter base is soooo much more advanced and easier to work on. Never tried the gladiators however.
Idk if the gladiators would even work on the gunfighter base tbh. I was thinking about switching the base out but I see that you need a converter, and idk if you can use the twist function on the sticks after that
@@GrumpyEyeGaming Yeah I think if you were to go with gunfighter bases, I'd sell the Gladiators and purchase outright if that is the direction one would want to go Not cheap though :)
i used to have a x56 HOTAS and in there i use throttle thumbstick for vertical thrust, and joystick thumbstick for lateral thrust, i seperate them because the thumbsticks are on awkward angles that make it hard to learn to move it exactly in one direction, so if i wanna go directly up i might find im also drifting sideways. I could just put in hours to gain the muscle memory, but seperating vertical and lateral worked really well, although leaving 2 unusable axes
I played around with t16000m but now my right stick rotation is broken, i was looking for a video that reviews the NXT/EVO and thanks to this video im buying 2 evos Nice video man i appreciate the time you took to explain the whole sticks keep it up ✊️
Have 2 t16000. Cheaper and i'm glad with theme. In my opinion the better choice to start. I play with theme since 3 or 4 years without troubles. Now i'm looking for the gladiator from vkb but hard to find in the EU vkb shop 😢
I have the same sticks. My right stick kept needing reset, I found that the potentiometer had come unstuck in the base. Had to re-glue it in place and it's been fine since.
the t16000s just don't have enough buttons on the sticks in my opinion, if you're really set on getting dual sticks you have to get the VKB normals at least, I have one premium for my right stick and a 16000 for now on my left hand. honestly I don't know if the premiums are worth it, the thumb hat switch is super awkward to use and as cool the analog stick instead of one of the hat buttons is, while it sounds awesome, I really can't think of a good use for it, unless you want to use it to aim gimbals unless you really want the extra springs I say just get a pair or regulars, I'll be getting a regular one for my left stick with the new angled adapter when I can afford it
Glad you mentioned Elite Dangerous. Trying to figure out how to setup roll into yaw like ED feature . The VKB software allows you to highly customize outputs for axis , buttons and povs. I was able to map full throttle control to the mini stick, which was awkward, then to twist Z rot axis which is awesome. Trying to figure out to keep it relative so it holds position. (It only holds position in decoupled mode. (And of course, cruise pulls throttle back to setpoint) if you find out how to set the Z rot axis correctly, please let me know.
Yeah Grump, I have a t16000 throttle and stick in pieces after rebuilding them several times, always great at first, but yeah.... after a month or so they are constantly drifting, not centering and being jittery. I did like them when they worked though. Now.... the Logitech 3d pro (which you showed), was far superior to anything else for 1 reason and one reason only. I can go to the local computer/office supply store and buy one for less than 50 USD in about 20 minute........ Otherwise, same as the others, will not Zero and drifts and jitters after about a month of use. I have about 2-3 of those disassembled in boxes, I lost count. Being a HOTAS kinda pilot, the current Saitek/Logitech x-56 works great, and has run at least quadruple the lifespan of the others so far. (Maybe that is because I haven't had to fight too many OVERLORDS yet.)
You would fall in love with a HOSAS setup. It just gives you more control of the ship! Btw there's a saying in serbia.. who buys cheap, buys the same thing more times. :/ I guess you've experienced that already :/ that's why I didn't get the 3d pro or the t1600.. You should try the gladiators, or at least get a second stick :)
@@GrumpyEyeGaming For starters, finding them here in the states is near impossible. The t1600s were the only thing you could find in an ambidexterous setup. The rest just didnt exist. I think that SC has greatly increased the demand for flight/space sim related products and we will see more evolution on that front.
@@imagumby7713 well most of our us orgmates have them, I had issues finding them in EU, but they're always in stock in US. Check them out, if you have the money. You won't regret getting them! ❤
Hey Grumpy!! I need your advice man. I'm about to drop a pile of bucks to upgrade my X52 to the VKB Gladiator. I have practicly the same setup as you (chair distance to desk, chair height vs desk) and while I was thinking getting an underdesk mount before watching your vid, you seem to be just fine with the sticks on the desk! --- I'm wondering if you have any issues with wobbling? I mean my X52 stick had succion cups under it to prevent it from keel over or raise from one side you know! Should I be fine with just them on the desk, not fixed? Thanks! Only thing is I would have to unclip/clip them a couple times a week since I work on the same desk as I game and i'm worried it will be a pain or break the mecanism fast. Do you think those mounts are sturdy enough to move the mounts regulary and is it easy/fast? If you think it'll hold i'm buying the sticks and mount and tell VKB you made me buy it lol
@@claverdiere91 I have told VKB that I made 40 people (that I know of) buy their sticks, but they haven't responded.. I was asking them for a sponsorship. On the other hand, Virpil did respond with a "yeah, we'll come back to you". And never talked to them again lol... So yeah, I'm pretty pissed off when it comes to them. But monstertech guys are really nice and can help you out in a jiffy whenever you have an issue with something. Didn't ask them for a sponsorship, though lol.. Check their website for sliding mounts for example.. they're quite cool. But these clamped ones are extremely sturdy, and if you deattatch them from time to time, you will need to fiddle with them a bit, but it's not that big of an issue tbh. But with them, you'll know that nothing is going to move. I've heard that the VKB's own mounts are not as sturdy as the monster tech's
Well it centers after I give it a nudge, and I don't wanna lose the fine tuning whilst flying if I bring the dead zone up. That's why I didn't do it. It fixes itself when I slap the sticks around for a bit.
@@GrumpyEyeGaming I had the problem about the centering (well, was more center drifting in my case) on my right stick at some point. It was a magnet that had come unglued. Pretty easy fix.
ah maan, the moment you said that they dont center perfectly, was the moment i realized that i only have 1 choice for good joysticks and its virpil. thx for the saving me nervs, i curently have no nervs left.
@@johnnybanana8004 nope. They will all fail to cented at some point. The only solution for that is to make the deadzone bigger so you dont get sway that is noticable in the games you're playing

I’m going to get virpils eventually but right now I’m a trucker so I’m not going to get a full setup. Going vkb Omni-throttle Gosa’s and mount it in a foldable tray so it can fit in my truck under my monitor
idk if the very minimal strafing is actually the stick cause ive ran into that problem with all joysticks and if you go into axis monitoring when it is happening the sticks have zero input
I’m looking at moving to these from an x56 set up…can I ask, several months on, are you still using them ? Are they still working ok ? Cheers, great video and the sticks and set up nicely explained

You should mount them on a coffee table or something lower down .... Honestly it makes all the differance ... Top of the stick in line with your arm rest... For comfortable flying.... Soooo sooo much better... Try it trust me ... Would I lie to you...
@@merefield2585 yaah I only suggested a coffee table as a way to try it. I went virpil left myself didn't need right when mouse is more accurate. Though right gives immersion as well. Connie Andromeda left control panel 1 pedals and mouse. Is my set up.
Thinking about getting the mounts for the table, but the thing is, my table has adjustable height, so they're at the right spot for me already. But, I'm waiting for a screen table mount so I could lift the screen up, because it's just too low because the table is too low. The only thing that pisses me off is how they slide across the table. And that's why I think I'll have to get the table mounts for them..
@@GrumpyEyeGaming I can dig that... Its worth it once they are fitted solid. It all starts to mount up though everything costs a bit and its a very slippery slope.
Any chance you can give a link to your xml layout ?? Just ordered a pair for SC to replace my TM1600M's as I grew tired of crashing into space stations.
The drift issue can be resolved pretty easily. There are guides on fixes for mechanical issues. Its most likely a lose magnet that just needs reseating.
I was just on the VKB shop page, and what do I see there? the new OMNI THROTTLE ADAPTER (OTA) FOR GLADIATOR NXT but sold out..... AS ALWAYS when I want to buy something
bonjour j'ai acheté le GLADIATOR NXT EVO 'WWII COMBAT EDITION' et bien mal m'en a pris 2 fois en panne en moins d'un mois et le service après vente nul je suis même entrain de me renseigner sur mes droits juridiques pour faire marcher la garantie un produit construit pour durer soit disant franchement j'ai de gros déboire avec je ne peut que déconseiller d'acheter en plein jeu le ressort se casse le soucis c'est que le support du ressort aussi impossible donc de le remplacer donc partout ou je pourrais mettre mon avis défavorable je le mettrais

For the record I have both the T16000M and the Saitek Extreme 3D Pro sticks. I've used both for years without issue. The Saitek, the cheapest of the pair.. I've had for 10+ years without a single issue. They are perfectly fine for a dual stick, low cost setup. I'm not knocking these. In fact i would probably consider buying one or more once one of the sticks has an issue. Don't knock it because of price. In this case cheap doesn't mean crap.
