@@stefanufer608 when asked how he got his communication skills, he said in reply, that he's not the great communicator, it's that he communicated great things. A most self-effacing President
The joy on Horowitz face after completing performaning the second piece in this compilation is just wonderful to see, he was a very genuine man, a thing you can continue to see in the rest of the video.
Would not say it is all about fake but the way conservatories work now versus then is very different and accounts for the lackluster, uninspired interpretations that focus on showmanship rather than tone. In a nutshell: I've been to conservatories and masterclasses and seen how they work, for instance a young pianist was playing through Vallee d'Obermann and he was doing a good job with his interpretation, it sounded nice and fluid. The teacher did not agree and started hammering on his interpretation and made him follow the teachers interpretation fully which sounded stiff and uninspired just notes, no feeling. All the while teaching the kid all these silly things like gyrating, looking up to the heavens and all that stuff. This was the point I decided conservatory wasn't for me. Maybe I will never get to the technical level of their playing due to that but at least I enjoy my playing which I would not had I applied.
@@DJStefandeJong you can't learn the technicall level on the conservatory or by a teacher. you have to teach it yourself by practising, studying, practising 5 hours a day. that's the only way. and conservatory nowadays. is just a sick institute.
@@user-xxxxxnwell a good teacher most certainly helps you remove impediments but yes through self study I'm now able to play a lot of pieces from sheet. To play them perfectly I would need to study like you say but I enjoy just playing through them well enough so I'm gucci on that but if I'd want to perform them I'd have to take it up more seriously indeed
I love youtube, and all treasures like this one that it entails. Granted, the camera is sometimes out of focus, people even fall off the stage, and it all feels a bit improvised. But that is what makes these types of videos so precious. They are informal, and show real and unedited records of real events and unique meetings. Records of times that have passed. And records of ordinary and special days in the life of grand historic figures. I choose records such as these over dry and professional recordings any day of the week. Videos like these shows records of real LIFE!
What a president ! Even if I didn't like him during his presidency, Ronald Reagan was undoubtfully able to say the right words at the right moment. Respectful, cheerful and always with this great sense of humour. I don't dare to imagine what the actual presidents remarks on a renowned pianist coming to the White House would be like.
Notice....he plays very softly....today's musicians think they have blast out our ears to be considered "great"..when actually an audience can be moved more deeply with a soft performance........this is hard to learn......bu it works.
I have a feeling because it's a relatively recent recording and of "better" quality we hear it in a different way we're used to. In most of his recordings when he plays loudly the mic can't keep up and it's just noise so it gives off a very different feeling
@@manassrivastava1048 Nancy Reagan fell off her chair, off the platform, and onto the floor. She was okay thank goodness, and lucky she wasn't seriously hurt.
Where have these people of class gone? To there graves you may say, but, to us who knew them our memories and gratitude lives on. We were lucky and blessed.. Thank you President Reagan RIP
Nice comment. I think there are many 'people of class' out there trying to share their genius with the world. We don't hear from them because the world is controlled by corporate mercenaries who know nothing of art :(
I appreciate how this frames President Reagan's reaction to Nancy falling. You can see him mutter "what" as he loses his composure, and quietly exclaim "no!" when he realizes what might happened. Major respect to the woman in the red dress closest to him (who I assume to be Wanda Horowitz). She stands and to Reagan and I believe she says "You have to stop", which I assume to restrain a kneejerk reaction to help his wife, since the secret service has everything under control. And once she's back up, she says "You see, they help her". Having the guts to stand up to the President and reassure him like that and treat him like you would treat anybody else in that situation is respectable, especially when done in front of a crowd and cameras with limited English. Plus, you don't often see politicians, let alone Presidents, caught completely off guard and witness their genuine reactions to something they couldn't have foreseen (Bush's reaction to 9/11 in that classroom. comes to mind). Quite the long comment over something so minor, but it's exactly minor things like that I love geeking out over.
@@morralkan Trump has more culture than Obama, Bush and Clinton did. Obama is a man of mediocre intelligence. Beyoncé and Jay Z are his cup of tea. Great music goes way over his empty head.
Can anyone imagine the present Dear Leader of the so-called “Free World”, inviting someone, anyone, of this stature to the White House, hmm ? Kim Kardashian, are you kidding me ?
Ms Kardashian paid a visit to the white house for a very important purpose. perhaps you could become better informed on the matter before you insult her again.
@@mark-j-adderley yeah, any excuse to insult Trump. Typical derangement behavior. You still think there's anyone of Horowitz's stature left in the increasingly immature USA to invite?
No moron......a very intelligent and very immoral CIA appointee who continued the destruction of the Constitution, Libya, Egypt, and saved the Banksters
