Macedonian renowned photographer, director, and cameraman: Drnkov Blagoja
Blagoja Drnkov was born in Skopje on 7th of March 1914. At the age of around ten he became familiar with the simplest form of photography, making prints with the aid of sunlight and fixing them using common salt. When he was twelve his parents gave him a film projector as a present, and together with his childhood friends from the neighbourhood he showed children's films in the cellars. When he was thirteen, in the lower classes of high school, on one occasion his physic teacher, who was pleased with the interest shown by his pupil, invited him into his laboratory and initiated him into the process of photography. He bought his first camera Zeiss Icon, at the age of sixteen. From that time onwards he has taken no "ordinary" snapshots, but has endeavoured rather to create atmosphere, a composition. He is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions both in his own country and abroad. His work is included in the Encyclopedie internationale des photographes de 1839 a nos jours, published in 1985 in Switzerland, in which are included the best known photographers in the world from the beginnings of photography up to the present day.
Blagoja Drnkov died on 31 January 2012.
