So Paul you don't mind if I have a little discussion with you on a topic if you can reply back so there was just a recent post on Damon's pad life Facebook page with a guy who does VLM and was talking about animal urine. HWE guy's got into the discussion and most of them were dual method that mentioned about when it comes to anything that gets saturated into the carpet like animal urine or spills you cannot extract it out using VLM. You might be able to clean any stains and smells from the carpet fiber but anything that's down in to the padding is going to eventually reoccur. They're basically saying that they don't doubt that you can clean the carpet using VLM you just cannot remove anything that's saturated down into the backing padding and subfloor which is true and some of them were mentioning you should not be advertising what you cannot really remove if you don't have the necessary tools to do it. Damon didn't really jump in too strongly on this one he just said you need the right tools for the right job and that was it. So this is why I want to get you and Robin input as well and just try to figure out where my limits are at.
Im a carpet cleaner from UK I used to use HWE but have gone more VLM now but my personal opinion on animal urine is there is no machine out there that can treat the carpet and pad and the sub floor while the carpet is down both methods can clean right to the bottom of the carpet fibres so the urine will be cleaned from the carpet but the smell could come back because it has soaked through the padding and onto the subfloor so really only way is treat the subfloor and replace carpet and padding
CTPRedDog, I'm going to give you some unsolicited advice. Most carpet cleaners on those groups think they are the be all, end all (know it all) in the industry. No one...I don't care who they are or what equipment they have, can get urine out of the pad or subfloor. Maybe they can get a little deeper with a big truckmount, but the reality is that they are likely just driving it deeper into the pad. When I was an installer/cleaner, I pulled many carpets that were flooded with urine. I have had to bleach concrete floors and seal with concrete sealer. I have replaced padding and steam cleaned the back of the carpet, re-installed, and cleaned the top of the carpet...only to still have odor. Translation: there was still urine in the carpet. That said, if the problem is bad enough, no one is going to remove it all. What Paul and others have said is that they have had success killing the odor...I don't think anyone who is telling the truth can honestly say they can remove all traces of any contaminate. That said. decide who you are going to follow and believe, who you are going to model your method after, and stick to that. You will always be in termoil if you rely on forums and groups...especially that one.
I have a few videos showing how I use the rotary to apply stabilized Clo2 into the back of the carpet and then extract with my portable. I have never had a call back when doing this but I would not do it in a extreme example. If enough Clo2 contacts the urine it will destroy the molecular structure and there will be no more odour. I have walked out on some jobs that were simply too far gone so you do need to use judgement when dealing with these situations.
