Thanks, will do! I might do a walk-around video of the car and show the different factory accessories that I added right after the purchase. I got every available option from the accessory catalog, and I had the dealer put everything on so it would be covered under the Honda warranty. I am also planning to upgrade the OEM "premium" sound system with better speakers, subwoofer, dedicated amps, and signal processors. The factory sound system is decent, but it definitely leaves a lot to be desired in terms of clarity and low-end fill... the factory subwoofer is woefully inadequate. I'll certainly do a video on that when it happens. Cheers! 👍 --QM

Just sold my '16 Acura TLX Advance and purchased a '20 Accord Touring 2.0T. Overall, I'm very pleased and impressed. I've owned 19 cars in my lifetime. 10 of them were Hondas and 8 of them were Acuras. Wanted to replace my '16 TLX with a newer '19 TLX but searched for months and couldn't find one suitable. I knew all about the Accord's redesign in '18 and started considering it as an alternative. Came across the '20 Touring with only 7k miles and at a reasonable price so I decided to pull the trigger. So far, I have no regrets. The engine is a jewel. No car is perfect and I have a few gripes but they're all reasonably minor. My TLX had a much better sound system which I miss and shockingly, the Accord's gas tank is on the small side, holding almost 3 gallons fewer than my Acura would. The 19" tires are a little noisier than my Acura's too. The LKAS on my TLX was spot on and kept me centered. Like yours, my Accord wants to keep me very close to the left line. The Accord drives great though and that torquey engine just tempts me all the time to press the gas pedal harder. It is very roomy and comfortable. I'm glad I bought it. Mine is Lunar Silver Metallic with gray interior. I do plan to get back into an Acura though. The extra little intangibles are nice. I'm eyeing a '22 TLX Type S in about a year and a half.

Thanks for the feedback, Andy! Congrats on your new Accord! I agree on all points. I'm overdue to record and post my 1-year owner's review on my Accord... I'll try to get that out soon. My top 5 likes and hates will be in that video as well. The somewhat harsh suspension, the "floaty" front shocks, and the weak sound system are definitely at the top of the "hates". I have some Focal speakers and AudioControl DSP amps just sitting in boxes waiting to be installed to fix the audio problem. 😉 The engine is definitely at the top of the "likes", and the car's overall road manners are very good. I've only put ~9K miles on mine so far because I've been riding my motorcycles more lately... not to mention that my usual 45-65K mile yearly commute has dropped by about 50% since C-19 happened. This was a refreshingly nice video about the form and function of the car, thank you for making this. One of these will definitely be my next vehicle purchase. So how are you liking the car four months later?
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard 4 года назад
Thanks for the feedback! I've owned the car for ~6 months now and I have about 4K miles on it (not driving it much since COVID-19 started, using my motorcycles and truck more). The Accord is a great car, and I am really enjoying it. I'm still planning to do a full walk-around video and to do a review of the Honda accessories that I installed on mine. I only have a few complaints about the car so far. My first gripe is a personal one (not the car's fault), and that's the quality of the "premium" sound system. I don't think the sound is quite up to par, so I will be upgrading the audio system to give more balanced sound and more bottom-end (not big bass, just more depth/warmth). I will be replacing the speakers with higher-quality units (including a better subwoofer), and maybe upgrading to external amplifiers. Again... this is just a personal preference. One of my previous careers was in professional car audio, so I know how a good stereo "should" sound. 😉 My second issue with the car is that the front suspension tends to float and bounce around more than the rear, so this makes the car feel slightly out of balance. I can drive around with sport mode enabled, which helps to stiffen the front suspension somewhat, but that also changes the engine and steering performance. It would be nice if the suspension mode and engine performance modes could be selected independently... or just have slightly stiffer (or re-valved) front shocks to avoid the "float". The last issue is with the wheels and suspension. I had a strange issue about 2 months ago while driving down IH-10 in rush hour traffic... all of the emergency and dash lights went crazy, warning about "collision avoidance", "adaptive cruise control", "lane keep assist" failures... all failed simultaneously. However, the car seemed to be driving just fine. I stopped and checked the front of the car (specifically the front radar sensor) and everything looked OK. I started driving again and everything seemed normal. The next morning, I took it to Honda to be checked and I got a huge surprise: the right-front suspension was almost completely destroyed! The inside edge of the right front wheel was dented in over 1", the upper ball joint was broken, and the right control arm was bent/deformed... all from an apparent road hazard or impact with something. The damage estimate was $2600 and not covered by warranty, so I had to make an insurance claim. I don't remember hitting anything that significant (like a curb or debris on the road), and whatever impact may have happened was long before the car freaked out... I was traveling on very smooth pavement in the main lanes of IH-10 when the alarms went off. Houston is full of potholes, so this must have been just a "normal" occurrence. That means that the aluminum in the wheels and suspension might be a little soft and prone to damage. Time will tell if that's the case... I'll just be extra careful to avoid rough spots when I can from now on. Cheers! 👍 --QM

Will do! I only have ~3500 miles on it now, so I'll probably wait until around 6-8K before I start tweaking it. My plans are to install the Hondata Stage 2 with the PRL airbox, downpipe, midpipe, and intercooler. That should bump it up into the 330 HP and 380 ft-lb torque range. I will certainly have it dyno tested to be sure that we're running within the right parameters. It won't set the world on fire or match my 700+ WHP Mitsubishi Galant VR-4, but it's certainly more sophisticated and comfortable as a daily driver. 😉👍 --QM

I just bought a 2020 touring model, white:) I noticed the audio isn't as good as my last Honda which was 2017 touring coupe. what do you have your audio settings at ?
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard 4 года назад
Agreed! That's my only real complaint about the 2020 Touring... the audio system leaves a LOT to be desired. I'm a bit of an audio snob because I did high-end car audio for nearly 2 decades, so I'm more particular about audio quality than most people would be. The sound is quite "hollow" in the Accord, and the factory subwoofer is only good at medium-low volume levels. The factory amp starts taking out bass above volume-15 to avoid clipping or overheating. I found a video on YT with a hack to disable the hidden factory equalizer "optimizations", and it seemed to improve mid-bass a little bit, but nothing spectacular: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-G6o0zHZt6KM.html . I can't remember where I've left the EQ curves and subwoofer levels, but it's just passable at best, IMHO. So, my fix for this is to upgrade the entire system while retaining the OEM head unit (can't change that because of all of the integrations and CAN bus stuff). My plan is to replace all of the speakers with Focal components, rework the damping and sound insulation throughout the car (DynaMat, Thinsulate, and Low-E closed-cell foam), and then drive everything with an AudioControl D-6.1200 for the full-range and a LC-1.800 for the subwoofer. I might add an AudioControl Epienter Plus for the bass control. I haven't decided which subwoofers or enclosure yet... I'll probably go with a pair of JL Audio 10's or maybe the Focal FLAX 10's in a custom sealed box. I don't want BIG bass... just tight, controlled, clear sound with some real bottom-end to it. Cheers! 👍 --QM

do you feel any jerkiness with your 2.0t? I feel a little bit of jerkiness when braking and sometimes in the beginning of accelerating and also the car shakes a bit after turning off the engine. I heard some people say this car has that bc of all the gears it goes through but others have said it’s supposed to be smooth
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard Год назад
I've noticed a bit of transmission jerkiness where there shouldn't be. It seems to lurch and forget where it's at while shifting at low speeds and low throttle positions. I've noticed that it's more common when the engine is still cold in the mornings. I haven't noticed a rough engine shutdown or braking with my Accord. If you feel pulsating in your brakes, then that's usually due to a warped brake rotor or a belt separated in the tire (usually front tires). My biggest gripe with my Touring model is the floaty, bouncy front suspension. In "normal" drive mode, the front of the car porpoises over ripples in the road (front bounces up and down, but the rear end is settled). It's less noticeable in "sport" mode, but it's still there. It seems like the front spring rate is too soft, and the front struts are insufficiently damped. I rented a Mazda 6 Touring for a few days, and it had MUCH better suspension and a smoother ride than my Accord Touring. I currently have about 22K miles on mine right now, and I suspect that the front struts will need to be replaced before 50K miles. They're gonna be expensive (electrically adjustable), so I hope that my 8-year extended warranty covers it. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Appreciate the review. I’m cross shopping this car against a Stinger in the event I don’t find what I’m looking for and need to make concessions. S/N - what education/certifications would you recommend for someone looking to get into your field?
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard 4 года назад
Thx for the feedback! The Stinger is a really nice car, and the 3.3T is definitely quicker than the Accord 2.0T... economy is worse, though. As for the career path, that's a tough question. I've been in this industry for about 33 years, and I started consulting when I was only 17 yrs old. I went down the traditional path of BS in Computer Sciences, but that roadmap has changed radically over the past three decades. I specialized in networking, infrastructure design, and security early in my career, then I also certified with all of the top vendors in the field. That opened a lot of doors for me during the Internet and DotCom booms... right place at the right time, and I ended up as one of only 18 people in the world with a particular set of highly desirable certs in the early days. If I had to start over today, I would definitely go down the security path again because that's where all of the action is now. InfoSec and cybersecurity are the hotbeds of activity because of all of the evolving threats and rampant fraud on public networks. Obtaining industry or vendor-specific certs in those fields can be just as crucial as a BS/BA degree (sometimes even more so) because those are usually more applicable skills than general CIS degrees. For example, most CISSP's start out near $100K/year, and additional certs in network infrastructure and/or high-level programming languages will drive up that figure quickly to the $200+ range (assuming that the candidates also have experience in the field). Further specialization into vertical markets like PCI compliance or HIPAA auditing can be even more lucrative. You can expect long hours and plenty of lost sleep, but it's never dull! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Looking in the 2020 manual, I couldn't find maintenance intervals. But I want to get a dirtbike and tow it places. The 2.0 Accord is rated to tow 1000lbs. Towing capacity is a good question... It could be a difference in fuel blends. We have a different blend here in the Gulf Coast region than elsewhere in the country. It could also be an elevation issue. Thanks for sending the info on the accord, it was helpful. One last thing i washed my car at Costco and the windsheild wipers get going, i believe its the sensing issue how do you turn it off.
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard 4 года назад
Sorry for the late reply... you probably already figured this out by now. The automatic rain-sensing wipers are controlled by the stalk on the right of the steering wheel. The highest position upward is OFF, and one click down is the auto-sensing position. You can just disable the automatic option by leaving it in the OFF position and then lifting to the "mist" wipe momentary position whenever needed. 😉👍 --QM

I wasn't full throttle, but probably 85-90%. The Accord 2.0T really hustles for its size & weight. The 0-60 mph launches can be quicker, but I usually run my tires on the firm side (~35 PSI)... that hurts front traction a bit for hard launches. Cheers! 👍 --QM

The interior is very quiet over all. My only gripe is the tires... they are a bit noisy on Houston's concrete highways, and they tend squirm around in rain grooves a little too much. Otherwise, the new Accord is a great highway car. I just burned ~480 miles today in it traveling to San Antonio and back... it was quiet and smooth all the way! 👍 --QM

I have a champagne frost pearl with ivory interior 2020 Accord Touring 2.0T . Overall I am very happy with my 5th Accord though it’s missing a few features that should have been standard for the price, heated steering wheel, 360 degree camera and a branded higher end stereo system and standard rear USB ports. Several times the touchscreen will power off and reboot while driving. Very annoying! Gas mileage has improved after first service at 5000 miles. 19.8 mpg first 5k miles after service 22.5... A rattle has started in the dash from the head up display. The aluminum wheels are good looking but they aren’t flush with the tire and they are easy to curb rash.
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard 4 года назад
Agreed! The OEM "premium" stereo leaves a lot to be desired in terms of audio quality. I did high-end car audio for about a decade, so I'm a bit pickier than most when it comes to audio quality. I have already purchased two sets of Focal 6.75" component speakers and a better 8" sub for the rear deck. I will probably add an AudioControl LC-6.1200 and a LC-1.800 (or LC-1.1500) to drive everything and reprocess the audio for more balanced sound. The head unit lockup/reboot issue is supposedly resolved with the latest firmware update, so you might want to check into that... you can download it from the Honda/Garmin website: owners.honda.com/vehicles/information/2020/Accord-Sedan/features/System-Updates I added the OEM accessory USB charger sockets in the back of the center console for the rear seat passengers... that should have been included, for sure. The 360 camera option would be nice, but I think that Honda reserves those high-end options for the Acura line... not sure if any of the Honda lineup is available with that option yet. As for the wheels, I noticed that issue immediately... I'm dreading the day that I curb rash my wheels. The OEM Michelin Primacy tires don't have any rim protection bulge at the bead area like some other tires have. For now, I'm just being extra careful to stay far away from the curbs. I think a set of aftermarket tires with more lip/rim protection might help the situation... maybe something 10mm wider would give enough overhang to protect the wheels a bit better. Cheers! 👍 --QM

How do you the adaptive lane keep in the touring? my dealership didnt tell me
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard 4 года назад
If you haven't already downloaded the owner's manual from Honda, then you can find it here: owners.honda.com/vehicles/information/2020/Accord-Sedan/manuals There is a master-enable button on the lower-left of the dash panel near the driver's door that enables the system (icon of a car with a circle around it). There are also two buttons on the lower-right of the steering wheel that enable/disable the lane-keeping assist (LKAS) and adaptive cruise control (ACC). You can use those two features together or independently. I've noticed that the LKAS tends to be a bit intrusive around town, so I only use it on the highway. The ACC is great and works well anywhere above 35 mph, and it will allow you to decelerate down to a stop while still on cruise and then resume when traffic moves away. I always maintain control over both systems just in case of a logic error, like the LKAS trying to steer me into the highway pickets or crash barriers near merge/exit lanes... that's a serious flaw in my opinion. Another minor thing to note about the LKAS is that sometimes it won't detect the lane markers on one or both sides, so it won't work properly. You can adjust your HUD mode to show the LKAS and ACC status so that it shows the lane markers/bars on the sides of the car. If either of those is not illuminated, then the LKAS won't be engaged. Cheers! 👍 --QM

Do you use regular 87 gas in this car?
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard 3 года назад
No... I always run mid-grade or premium because it has a turbocharged engine. The owner's manual doesn't specify the use of premium fuel in the Accord 2.0T, but the Civic Type-R uses the same engine and it requires premium. I'm sure that the knock sensors and computer will reduce boost pressure and ignition timing to compensate for lower fuel grades, but I want that power! This thing really hustles for a family sedan. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

The sport mode suspension is quite a bit firmer imo.
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard 4 года назад
I can feel it firm-up a bit in sport mode, but there is still quite a bit of front-end "float" that I wish I could tame. It would also be nice if you could set the suspension and engine map separately. I'd like to set the suspension on "sport/firm" with the "normal" engine mode, but that's not possible as far as I know. Maybe an ECU flash or similar hack could allow for custom mode settings. 👍 --QM

@@QuasiMotard Agreed. I wonder if KTuner can do it? That's my #1 wish, setting the suspension and steering separately from the powertrain mode. I'd keep the suspension in sport the majority of the time. The dampers seem to make a noticeable difference in body roll when cornering aggressively. They tame the float a noticeable amount but it's still an Accord. I guess I didn't expect as much. I was impressed there was any tangible difference at all honestly.

93 octane? Car only needs 87. Honda recommends 87 for the 2018-2020 accord 2.0t.
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard 4 года назад
Agreed. However, the owner's manual lists 87 (R+M/2) as a minimum recommend fuel. The Accord's 2.0T motor is the same mill that powers the Civic Type-R, and Honda recommends a minimum of 91 in that car. The CTR runs the engine under a different performance envelope, so that's the reason for the higher minimum fuel AKI (anti-knock index) rating. Generally speaking, running higher octane fuel than needed won't hurt the motor, but it can reduce power/efficiency due to the fuel's resistance to ignition. It does hurt your wallet a bit more though! 😉 Turbocharged cars are more prone to detonation (pre-ignition knock/ping) because of the increased intake air temperatures (IAT) created by the compressed air from the turbo. Intercoolers used in these designs (technically, air-to-air heat exchangers) can reduce the IAT's to within a few degrees of ambient temperature during normal runtime, but high boost conditions will "heat soak" the exchanger and then you will have large spikes in the IAT that can lead to pre-ignition. The higher the boost, the higher the fuel octane/AKI rating you'll need in order to prevent pre-ignition or detonation. When the ECU "hears" knock/ping, then it will retard the ignition timing and drop boost to maintain safe operating limits for the engine... that means less power under your foot when you want/need it. Houston's hot weather raises the IAT's up fairly high anyway, so I want to give a bit of headroom for the fuel (and ECU) to behave "normally" for me. Anyway, fuel is cheap right now, so I don't mind the extra pennies at the pump... although that might change when fuel prices jump back up above $3/gallon. 😉👍 --QM

How did you break it in?
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard 3 года назад
I played nice with it for the first 600 miles and drove around mostly on surface streets with a few short highway runs (commuting). I also had the first service done very early at ~1500 miles. I usually stick with the traditional wisdom: no full-throttle blasts for the first several hours of engine operation, no extended high-speed runs, try not to maintain steady speeds or RPM's for too long, no extended idling, etc. However, most modern automotive engines are fully broken-in at the factory before they are shipped out to dealers. The factory does full run-in calibration testing of the engines, ECU, emissions control closed-loop tests, etc. After I crossed the ~600 mile threshold, I took the gloves off... no more Mr. Nice Guy. 😉 I routinely flog the hell out of it now. For a family sedan, it has a LOT of midrange grunt and the 0-60 mph pulls are a hoot! I only have about 6K miles on it now (mostly driving my truck and motorcycles this year). Cheers! 👍 --QM
