It is so amazing to see how their responses to your questions has grown. I remember watching your videos from the beginning and they weren't able to understand and construct responses to your questions, but watching your flower conversation just shows how much they have grown not only in the answers to your questions, but they can bring back what you have talked about during the school year! What an incredible teacher you are! An inspiration!!!🎉❤

@@MrsCallsCampers you are the reason I'm going into the classroom this year! I love watching your videos! I'm starting my first year in 3rd grade! I'm starting my teaching RU-vid journey as well! You inspire people more than you know! Don't let the negativity cloud that! You are an amazing teacher! ✨️✨️

Hey there! My thoughts on exposing them to multiplication that early on is wonderful; major points to you for taking on that challenge!! Scholars are never too young to be exposed to major things, especially if they have those higher academic levels embedded in them. However, I do understand how you feel. I do want to say that they are going to appreciate you later on for showing them the concepts of repeated addition will lead into multiplication. What you did was planting those seeds, and watch how they will bloom!

I teach 1st as well! My thoughts on multiplication the way you did it was perfect. Low stress exposure and not assessed to mastery. I also don’t love the pressure to feel the need to keep pushing more and more on 6-7 year olds. However, if you must, think of it as a continuation of skip counting. In my state it’s 2s, 5s and 10s. So, if you can relate it to something they have already learned they are likely to remember it more and it won’t feel like the “extra push” to show growth on the test.

Thanks for your insight. I agree that if it's done at all it should be low stress and no pressure! Typically with kids who are """ready""" (and I say that in huge quotes) for more advanced math love doing it. So to me, it was fun to see them excited about it, but I also knew they wouldn't walk away knowing fully how to do it. I just wanted to show them more so what multiplication meant, like you said they can already skip count and it's a continuation. Totally agree it shouldn't be taken so seriously that I'm assessing for mastery and not to pressure THEM for a test. Really taking this into consideration thank you!

@@MrsCallsCampers you’re welcome! You nailed it and I completely agree with you. I am always so impressed with you. I’m going into year 11 of teaching this year, but I was not that insightful in years 1-5 AT ALL! I think partly because teacher prep was so unrealistic of all the things teachers actually do. Teaching is an art. However, you are rocking it and it’s amazing to watch! Thanks for sharing your light with us!

Mayleen, First, You look so beautiful that all I have to do is look at you all dressed up in your classroom to get my mind off of some of the negativity happening in this world. Have you ever thought about doing an all teacher outfit of the day video? Second, there is one thing that can never be taught and that is if you have it or you don't and looking at the way that your students or most of them respond to you shows that you have it and they love it. Whatever happens throughout the year someway or another you always make a way to inspire your students to come around to you and that is how you have successful lessons. - Dwight

@@MrsCallsCampers Oooo I’ll have to bother my principal to get us some. We have TVs on stands and so I have a hard time trying to get students to interact with what is on the TV so I was thinking the pen could help a lot! Love watching you even as a high school teacher!

I don't believe there should be any formalized achievement tests in grades K-2 at all. The children just panic with the stress the parents put on them to succeed on these tests. I taught first and we had to give state achievement tests each year for several years. There were things on the test the kids had never been exposed to, (as with you, and multiplication) plus the vocabulary used in the questions, many didn't understand. I feel teacher or grade level assessments based on the concepts that were actually taught are more of an effective way to measure growth. Now that the school year is over, have you thought of making a video to discuss how you handle specific behaviors that crop up? You wouldn't need to mention names, of course, just a general overview of behaviors. Beginning teachers don't get information such as that in videos or education classes often.

I agree with you on your thoughts about testing! I have considered it but it just seems very hard to do. I am not sure if I'll ever find a good way to do it that I'm comfortable with :/
