We did center folders the exact same way. I called them their quest book because my theme in the class was everyone was on their own quest for learning. I loved how it promoted how everyone learns differently and that is a cool thing. Comparison stifles motivation and confidence.
I’m a first year teacher and every and I mean EVERY vlog is helpful. Thank you for sharing. Makes me want to start recording my class so I have things to look back on.
Thank you for sharing your struggle with calling off when you are sick! It’s so hard for me as well. Theirs the guilt of being a burden to others but you also don’t want to get everyone else sick. I’m so glad to know I am not alone! Thank you for being authentic in your videos.
Oh My Gosh!! I have been teacher for 10 yrs in a Dual classroom, and I can't believe ALL the things I just learned from your video!! I love your "writing song" and also your idea of having individualized folders for Centers. ❤️ It. TY
Thank you for sharing! What I found helpful was what you were putting in your center folders. Teaching Kindergarten, I wanted to try center folders this year to reinforce what we've been learning and giving my students an opportunity to do the task on their own. My teammates aren't doing folders and just let their students do bins. At the beginning of introducing folders I kept going back and forth with whether this is actually what I wanted because it seemed like my students were struggling with the routine of the folder but I told myself to give them time. To keep practicing so they'd get the routine and now they're finally getting it! They do get bin choice towards the end of the week after they've completed their folder task. So thank you for helping me validate what I'm doing too and how helpful it is for them.
How do you decide what spelling skill you are working on? Do you send home a list of words for parents in a newsletter? How do you pick words for your Friday word check?
All your videos are helpful. Some things in particular (showing yourself in action teaching with your students and showing us behind the scenes like what you do to prep for the week ahead and what you put in your center folders). Also, showing your lesson plans ahead of teaching so we can follow along.
Glad you are feeling better. Nothing worse than teaching when you are sick, but I know prepping for a sub is also exhausting. Thank you for sharing your days with us. Always inspiring! 😁
I don’t even teach first grade and I enjoy watching your videos. I want to post more on my channel but it’s definitely challenging. I appreciate your dedication and commitment to your channel. Thanks for adding in the time and hard work.
Loved how you sorted their writing into 3 groups to help keep track of where they’re at. Just a super quick organizational trick to support on-going assessment! Very helpful!
I love watching your vlogs! I would love to see more about the expectations and systems in how the centre folders work. They seem like a good idea and I am always trying to figure out the best way to work my literacy groups for my year ones. Thank you for everything you do for us and your kiddos! 😃
In my district we are in the same TTOC shortage and covering for others during our preps. It has gotten to the point that teachers are working on our after school requirements get cut and turned into planning time.
Hey there! Kindergarten teacher of 21 years from PA here😀 Looong time follower as well- I’ve purchased almost all the primary scouts retelling craft projects and I noticed that you have made vocabulary cards to go with your stories. I was wondering if you would consider selling them on TpT or had somewhere where we can have access to them. I love that you have used real photographs to show the meaning of each word and I would love to use them to accompany my book club books throughout the week. I want you to know that I think you are an amazing teacher and I am proof that there’s always something to learn even with the experience that i i’ve had over the years. I’ve learned so much from you over the past three years or so and I appreciate everything that you do for new teachers and documenting your weeks here on RU-vid.💕
Hey! Thanks again for another vlog. I love them! I am using your black folder center work this year and I love it because I can differentiate for my kiddos which I got from you. THANK YOU!
Mine is a Wednesday afternoon. It’s okay… apart from needing to go to staff meeting after school, so it’s never as productive as I want. Loved this vlog!
Thank you for sharing how you differentiate center work for students. Very helpful. Question: is the expectation that they complete one worksheet a day? What happens if they don’t/can’t? Does it roll over to next week? Send it home?
I’m so sorry you got sick. It’s really challenging to teach while sick! Can you remind me where you’ve explained how students earn their coupons please? Thanks so much!
First year teacher. I have been sick every month since august. I haven’t taken a sub either. And I know I should but we are short as well and I have such a HARD class. I’m terrified to get a sub to be honest. Hopefully I will get past this.
How long don they get in center time? My kids would blow through that because that’s for the whole week correct? Not each day? What do they do when they are done?
Do you just laminate and tape that center folder cover sheet to the folder or does the folder have a clear sleeve you’re putting it in? Just curious how they hold up.
why are you keeping all of your similar slides together? don't you click through them throughout the day to keep you on track? would this mean you have to click back and forth to find what you want? you share so many wonderful resources and ideas. it's helpful for me when you share specific products you're using. I know it's hard to take a day off but last year after 5 illnesses in 6 months ( flu, pneumonia, etc) I ended up in the hospital as soon as school was over. it's hard, but necessary to rest. Especially when we give so much everyday. 🙂
