I just realized my clips reading my wordless picture book with my kids never imported to my editing software so that isn't included; are you interested in a short video talking about wordless picture books and showing that clip?
"get your shoelace out of your mouth" the most relatable part of this video lmao. The best part about using curriculum is....if you fall off course, there is always a book to catch you. Just remember that you hopefully don't have to follow it to fidelity and you can use your own discretion
I truly appreciate your videos. The struggle is real. Thanks for being vulnerable. Incorporating new curriculum is challenging (especially when you don’t love it).
its funny as an adult how much a person learns from listening to you explain it to your students i never thought of the fact that vowels are usually short when they are followed by a consonant or long when it ends a word i just know how to say the word lol
I think everyone should watch this video and maybe then they would understand why teachers are so tired 😂. We have to be “on” all day! I would love to see how you explain some of your procedures (and maybe you have?) like the houses and how you have students participate with the clap and turn and talk.
I’m in Arizona and we use both HMH and 95%. Once you get the workbooks and they get into the routine, I think you will grow to love it. We have seen so much reading growth in our kids that have used this program. Love watching your videos!
Hi!! Would you mind including your routine for math centers in a vlog? I know you have talked about center folders for reading, but id love some ideas on how to run math groups as well! ☺️
Great vlog! Thank you so much for sharing so much of your teaching, it’s a real privilege to be able to watch and learn from concrete real examples. Thank you 💕
I use the writing super star song with my 4th graders. They love it. I didn't think the would buy into it but I hear them singing it to themselves and it has really helped with their writing especially those finger spaces!!
With curriculum there is good and bad. You know what your students need to learn and review. There is never too much practice. I look through take the problems and do them like you did with ten frame or on a power point. Do not worry about going in order just put the curriculum in the order you need. If there is review page or a page, you like put it in their center folder.
We also use Envisions. In 2nd grade, we have to rearrange some too. We do topic 1, 2, and then 9. WHY do they have place value AFTER 2 digit addition and subtraction? I will NEVER understand! I've heard about the word problems in topic 1 in 1st. Our teachers rearrange that too.
I have envision too! I can’t tell you how helpful you are to me. Are you going to continue to use envision or are you going to try something else? Are you using a certain writing program? Thank you for your honestly and your posts! Love them 💜
You are not alone in your feelings for Envisons. I use Envisions (2nd grade) and I bought an Envisions math interactive notebook bundle from TPT... It's awesome and hands-on! I also use the practice buddy in Saavas for independent work and the additional practice sheet for homework. Honestly, it's a lot and the topics go so fast with little practice …. Plus the expectations are way too hard for my kids most times… during my first year with it, I struggled to come up with a routine I liked. I don't follow pacing lol... I stay a whole week on one topic sometimes.
I haven't looked at the practice buddy maybe I should check that out! I'm still feeling frustrated with the order and pace of envisions...I agree it is way too rushed :( and not nearly hands on enough
I use popsicle sticks for engagement during curriculum heavy work. It doesn't work for all. But for my kinders, when I shake that container they are hooked! Everyone wants to share!
We also got a new reading program. We ended up with CKLA Amplify, both skills and knowledge. It's going okay so far, but it is a LOT to get to in a day! We just finished assessing this past week, so we haven't gotten into it much.
We do Envision as well at my school. It is tough that we get one day per lesson and we HAVE to move on. I always loved how you could teach how you saw fit for your class. So understand the struggle of having to use the curriculum and go at a pace given to us. I do love that poster you showed I think with strategies. Was that from the curriculum or did you guys blow that up from something you snipped pictures of and put together yourselves?
Mrs Call that music turn up was something I don’t ever remember you playing for your past students I’m just wondering was it approved first or your school don’t mind you playing that😮😊🎉
Hi, I was wondering where I can get the sight word poem slide with the elkonin boxes? I teach mod-severe first-second, and I think this would be good for them. Thank you. Blessings!
well we never got any official training on it! we are directed to use what we can but we have to use something. It's really unfair and unreasonable to expect teachers to teach a new curriculum with fidelity when we got it RIGHT when school started and had zero training. I'm glad my admin understands that....
