I had my second son completely naturally. It was the single best experience of my life. It was truely a transformative experience. I prepared my mind first and foremost because where the mind goes the body will follow. Labor really is mostly mental not physical. One thought that really helped me and may help you too Annie was the following. Most contractions only last one minute. That means there is about 20 seconds of build up (provided your labor has not been artificially augmented), 20 seconds of peak, and 20 seconds of downfall. I reasoned that I could handle anything for 20 seconds. I also reminded myself that I would get a break. So if a contraction was particularly difficult I was going to get a break soon. Those things really helped me. I hope they help you too. God bless you and your little family Annie ❤️

Thank you for your comment, and yes this is something I have noted down for myself and have been thinking a lot about as well “I can handle this for 60 seconds”. The breaks in between (and that the peaks are not so long) is I think natures way of easing the process so we can still be present and focused. I will try my best! 🙌🏼🥰 Sending you lots of love!

Hi Annie! I am now 34.5 weeks with my second son and it feels so surreal to start washing and putting away his clothes. We experienced 4 years of fertility issues so every moment feels as magical as the first time. Hi Annie, I would recommend that you also eat a few dates a day. There are studies that show that women who eat dates a few weeks before labor have a much quicker and easier birth. Just a tip. I also ate dates and it helped to have a very quick and easy birth. (Babygirl was here just 4 hours after my water broke 😀)

Yes!!! Dates are amazing. I did this with my last two births and I noticed a huge difference! Also, eating dates immediately post partum and for the following week really really helped with healing compared to when I didn’t do that. All the best , Annie!

Annie your maternity photos came out stunning!!! A beautiful mother to be 🤲🏻 and you’re absolutely right about birth being a mental game. Ofc don’t throw anything out the window but planning an unmedicated birth takes a lot of prep, and you’re doing all the right things! My first was a 3 day labour (don’t be surprised if you get irregular contractions for days on end!!) and I basically fell asleep in between contractions for the hour before I pushed him out in the bath. It was intense but I would say a textbook hypnobirth. What helped me the most was breathing properly- when I started to hyperventilate my contractions were SO much more painful. I told myself to snap out of it and breathe and everything was better. Saying positive affirmations aloud to myself and having my support people say it back gave me so much more confidence. It’s very common for FTMs to have 1-2nd degree tears and they’re honestly nothing. My 2nd labour my techniques were thrown out the window as I had unexpected pure back labour and everything made it worse. But it was only 4hrs start to finish but man was that tough! I did it nevertheless and baby was bigger than #1 and had zero grazing let alone tears. I’m now pregnant with #3 so I’m preparing myself mentally for another back labour (she wasnt even posterior) and just knowing what to expect I feel I can cope better. This time I’m going to have combs in my hand to squeeze is needed, saline water injections in my lower back if I get it again! Goodluck x

These photos! So naturally beautiful, Annie! Birth is definitely mental. I had my son naturally and for me it required soooo much focus. I can’t remember if it was Bridget or another doula, but I had heard to think of contractions as a wave.. they start to build, build, build (like a wave) and the most intense few seconds are the very top and it dissipates as a wave would hit the shore. This helped me so much to focus on the pain and that it would end very soon. I wish you all the best in your delivery 💜

Enjoy as much quiet time in your final days before your beautiful baby arrives. I like the meditation you’re doing. birthing is more of a mental challenge than anything distraction is key but also drugs are available so I don’t think you have to put too much pressure on yourself just go with the flow. In saying that I had 2 natural pregnancies more stubbornness than anything on my part. I didn’t enjoy the pain but it was more that ppl said I wouldn’t last or couldn’t do it without drugs and i was fortunate I had the opportunity to do so.

As for a tip, here in Finland they recently started implementing a delayed washing of a baby after birth, like really delayed, not washing a baby for a week or more, because after a baby is born, it has a protective layer of “stuff”, that lowers his/her chances on catching anything bad. And also doing skin to skin, with mother and father, to make that baby get both of yours good bacteria. And since we lived in a postpartum hotel, and it was warm there, we continued doing skin to skin (baby only with a diaper, and sometimes without to have her air bathe. The interesting thing is that “stuff” got rubbed into our baby girls skin, and later even without a bath she looked perfectly clean, no bad smell whatsoever. She is growing up very healthy, she is almost 3 now, no allergies, was very calm newborn, slept really well.

You are doing a lovely job thus far and your are preparing well; from prenatal to nesting. I had a natural (vaginal) birth with all three of my babies and my last two (my boys) had me 5/6 centimeters at my 38 week and 39 week appointment and I had to be induced to get them earthside. Now I know I could’ve said no, but the last birth, the hospital (didn’t find a birth center I was comfortable with) was 30-40 mins away. You’re maternity photos are stunning and I hope all continues to go well for you and baby girl!

I had my daughter naturally with no drugs. It was hard but once it’s over it’s over lol. The best advice I have is pick a focal point during contractions and don’t make any noise. I heard so many women screaming and knew how that must have made the contractions so much worse. Whatever way you have her is not important. Just relax and do what needs to be done, then she will be here and it will all be worth it 💕

What helped me to have a perfectly fine birth without tearing was exercising with aniball. It helped me so much, especially to learn ho to properly push. I cant recommend this enough. Wish you all the health 🙏🏼

I wish I knew I could relax more during my first labour! It’s hard when it’s your first time as it’s your first experience but I was awake for 2 days straight and I was exhausted! During my second birth I had a relaxing home birth and slept between my contractions right until the end and it was as magical as giving birth can be! careful with the color catchers, mine got stuck in the filter and the water wasnt able to go away from the washing machine, so I had to manually do it and also squeeze the clothes of the access water... that was "fun"

Hi! I had my daughter unmedicated and naturally. I had a doula who helped me so much to prepare and educate myself. You’re doing all the right things! There are stretches that you can do to help induce labor naturally as you get closer called The Three Sisters of Balance. Also, walking a lot. I believe the perineal stretches are extremely important in preventing tearing. It definitely helped me. And you’re right that staying active throughout pregnancy helps with recovery. I was walking almost normally within a couple hours of birth and in no pain. One thing to help prevent bloating is to get the Pitocin shot after delivery (helps prevent hemorrhaging) as a shot instead of in the IV as all that liquid really affects your body. Of course only do this if your doctor thinks you are in good shape and the right candidate as there is a higher risk. You’re doing amazing! We can already see you’re going to be the best mom!
