Great vlog! As for actually playing while practicing: I was in a workshop where Barry Harris told this story about practising songs: He visited Bud Powell in the morning asking him to go somewhere. He got the answer "no, I am practising Body And Soul" He comes back in the evening and gets exactly the same answer.

Hi Bob, I'm not an acoustic expert but I do have to understand it for my job. While latex paint would bounce the sound back, I'm pretty sure a thin "stain" or "dye" would have very little effect on the performance of the fabric. Something like a very dilute acrylic paint for artists for instance or maybe some kind of fabric dye. I don't think you could match the walls though exactly though. Just riffing now but it would easy to recreate some of the classic bluenote album covers on this kind of canvas background with stains of blue and black paint for instance (I'm thinking of Saxophone Colossus). Also, I love these videos! I love everything about them but probably most impressed with the editing and how much content you manage to produce.

Thanks! Wow that would be a really cool idea, to have large scale blue note album covers integrated into the wall

The coke in the bottles at Mexican restaurants is usually from Mexico. Which means it's made from Real Cane Sugar instead of the American Cans made from processed Gentically Modified corn syrup. It's definitely more tasty and better for you!

I feel very privileged to go to music school, because what you get to do is play, play, play. Every day is at least two hours of either class, rehearsal or jam sessions and it's extremely noticeable how quickly people develop as musicians and improvisers when given the opportunity to do this.

I just saw Pat Metheny at the Monterey Jazz Festival, and I got to see his soundcheck, and you're right, he was right in the front of the stage warming up! It was super cool. Amazing show too!

I saw Metheny with Potter twice. And I just came back from a McCaslin concert... they're all insane players. I'm a lucky 16 year old.

This is the only way to dispose of reeds! It varies for me. Table or leg.

Me too or I just keep the reed and continue to play it

That was a perfect execution of the "table test". While I personally do the table test as well, I find the WALL test to be more satisfying. ;-)

@@alexchurchillmusic it's because the traitors deserve death. But mostly I do it to keep myself from trying to play them again hoping it's the reed and not me. Soon as I kill them, I move on. It's a stress relief

I listened to the Cannonball quintet at Chicago 1955 just now, with Coltrane instead of brother Nat. Cannonball invented nonstop; Coltrane"s solo sounded as if he was selecting from his 10 favo(u)rite patterns .

Hi Bob Could you do a video of you playing Blue Train? It's a great tune and I think it would be interesting to see you do a cover of it and also see how you construct a solo for it? Thanks
