I like content like this! I like the vlog style with the non-sewing stuff as well as the traditional sewing stuff. You should post outtakes too!

You watch movies while you work, and we watch you watch movies while you work while we work! I appreciate seeing you test the patterns out on printer paper like your customers end up doing. Shows that the pattern is really, actually tested.

I think you just tackled two things on your long to do list: tested another sample AND made a dress for your upcoming trip. Way to go! So cute how your sewing “supervisor” likes to look at the neighbors on his walk. He knows working from home can be lonely sometimes.

Thank you for sharing this with us, I am totally a I want to all the things and get overwhelmed and procrastinate type of person, it is reassuring to know other people are the same. Thank you for designing and publishing this pattern, especially with the cup sizes. I am in the southern hemisphere, so I am thinking of layering options for my first one, now the pattern is out.

Enjoyed this vlog, and I love the flowy-ness of viscose/rayon, even though it's often at risk of sliding around during cutting! I love that the straps on this sample are broader than the sample shown at the beginning of the vlog. I'll make the dress with broader straps for myself, but I'll make it with narrow straps for my daughter. Looking forward to the pattern's release :)
@PatternScout

What, even professionals lose their motivation and focus? I feel so much better now ❤ I had to take a couple of days' break from my nearly finished project because I just needed to let my brain rest in order to process what I was going to do with it because I'm a chaos sewing goblin who can't stick to a pattern. Cutest little supervisor! Give him all the loves and pets and extra treats for doing the goodest job of reminding you to take breaks.

I can't wait to see the new pattern! I've had such great luck with yours in the past. The fit is very consistent and the ease is perfect. I started making up the Romy top this week and the mock-up came out perfect on the first try. The big four patterns are always two sizes too big and i have to adjust them so much I may as well draft my own.
@PatternScout
@PatternScout Год назад
That's so great to know! Thank you for making them!!
@Gandellion

I totally get what you mean when you say that in these slumps you find yourself wanting to do all the things, I think it’s when we get into these states our instinct is to force ourselves out of it by doing stuff. But when you’re not in the right mind to do the stuff it all feels too much and you just end up doing stuff poorly or not doing it at all and just feeling bad about yourself. I’m trying to learn to let myself relax when I’m in these slumps because they’ll pass soon enough and being hard on myself just makes it worse
@PatternScout
@PatternScout Год назад
That is exactly it! I think it's also another round about way to procrastinate--I'll just plan a bunch of stuff I can't realistically do so I have an excuse for not doing anything haha :)

I'll be getting this dress pattern when it comes out. I love this type of dress and I love me some rayon challis. I get about 75% of all my fabric from Minerva because they have a gargantuan selection. And believe it or not, they ship pretty fast for being in the UK.
@PatternScout

This was a relaxing, yet somewhat motivating video. I have a ton of stuff to sew as well, but I have to remind myself to finish one thing before rushing to the next. And the next, and so on. Also, I have the same cutting mat from Joann and it is currently protecting my kitchen table. Used a 60% off coupon.

The pattern looks so cool and breezy! I like the pleats as an alternative to the ubiquitous gathering on dresses the past few years.
@PatternScout

Thank you! Those pleats are a nice alternative (especially if you loathe the process of gathering, like me haha)
@JoletteRoodt
@JoletteRoodt Год назад
I even iron my fabrics for toiles 😆 In one of your videos from a year or two back, one of your tips was "be neat in your work". I took that very seriously because what's the point of making a messy toile? You'll have spent 3/4 of the time and you still won't have accurate fit information. Also Huxley is the best 🐶
@PatternScout
@PatternScout Год назад
It really does make a huge difference for the end result 🙌 and forces me to slow down and just enjoy the process!

Your new pattern is really nice. I love watching your videos that include so much of your creative process. I have a question. I notice you are pressing the rayon fabric right on your cutting mat. What heat setting are you using that is hot enough for the fabric but cool enough not to affect the cutting mat? Pressing yardage of fabric can be a pain with small pressing surfaces.
@PatternScout
@PatternScout Год назад
Thanks! I actually have a little portable pressing mat that I use, so I'm not pressing directly on the cutting mat. I got the ironing mat a couple years ago at Hobby Lobby and haven't been able to find one similar anywhere else. I use it so much, so handy!
@AllTheHappySquirrels
@AllTheHappySquirrels Год назад
I bought a big wool pressing mat on Amazon and I love it for pressing big yardages. Would recommend! Now I just need to convince my husband to let me hack our big gateleg dinning room table into a standing height pressing and cutting table 😂
@erinvanhandel
@erinvanhandel Год назад
Casey, I think we share the same brain, because I get the same way with too many projects + procrastination. I hope you feel less overwhelmed now. 💙 Question - do you test your patterns with sewists in the wild?
@PatternScout
@PatternScout Год назад
Good to know I'm not alone! :) Yes, I do testing with sewists for most of the patterns (although for this one I am doing private testing). When I do public pattern tests, I'll usually send out an open call to my email list or reach out to previous testers.
@darihernandezstudio

I liked seeing the process of what goes into making a pattern. How long does it normally take you from start to launch?
@PatternScout
@PatternScout Год назад
Thanks! It really varies pattern to pattern...I start so many patterns and abandon them and then come back to them haha. I first sewed the original dress about a year ago, and probably started working on the pattern several months ago. But actual working time is usually between one to two months if I compressed it all together.

Thank you for your time and uploads. Both my Wife and i enjoy watching yourself and your skills sewing. I have always been the one to sew clothing repairs throughout my lifetime and have recently purchased a machine to begin making some things and my biggest challenge is finding mens trouser patterns. Do you have any recommendations for a traditional front pleated mens casual trouser pattern. Huge thanks from across the pond.
