VLOG: Visiting Byron Bay, Australia

Byron Bay has the reputation of being one of the coolest beach town in Australia. During the summer months, this place swells with tourism from all over the country.
It's famous for its laid back surf culture and hippy vibes. It reminded me a lot of Venice Beach in California, minus the heroin needles and homeless people.
I spent a week in an AirBnB in Suffolk Park, a town just adjacent to the Byron Bay center. Even though the weather wasn't ideal, it was still a relaxing place to hang out and explore the local areas.
If you come to Byron, I recommend renting a car so you can explore the neighboring areas and the hinterland region. There's some amazing nature all around here.

Hey Adrien! Usually restaurants and cafes are more expensive in Australia because the owners pay their workers a set national standard. From my time working in this industry, I would get $20-$30 per hour. I understand it must seem expensive given what your used to in the US, but it means that people can live a quality life when working in hospitality. If you’re looking for cheap eats, there’s an amazing Jewish/Yemenese restaurant where you can get a meal for $15. Hope this helps!!

I grew up near there (Brunswick Heads) & I can say Byron has changed so much in the past 30 years from what it was. Byron to be fair, is a little more expensive that other places near it, but I know where he is coming from re: expensive. And yes, he is there during winter, but if you live further south you wouldn't think it wasn't cold. When I go up in winter & visit my folks I always go for a swim in the surf up there & always wear shorts.

I live South West of Byron. I agree with you that Byron has changed in the last 30 years. It is one of the more expensive towns in the area as the council won't allow big franchises from setting up in the area. There is also a different vibe with the town, personally I like Ballina or even Lennox Head south of Byron (the airport for Ballina/Byron is in Ballina). The people are more down to earth. This area also has a wide cross-section of people, including surfers, farmers, businesses people and even hippies or ferals. Also the area also hosts different landscapes from the laid back beaches, hinterland / forested areas, quaint or quirky villages, farms/orchards, to cities and townships.

Very nice! Thanks for the second episode. Is there a third? Sorry about the rainy weather but it’s more sunny than rainy in Byron Bay usually. The nudist beach is best attended on a weekend lol. Aussies know the cost of living can be high, however, if you live here and know where to go, it’s actually pretty cheap. Also the wages here are pretty high so it doesn’t bite us as badly as it would if you weren’t working and earning here. The one thing I love about living in this part of Oz is that the weather is mild most of the year. The summers are hot but nothing like SE Asia in terms of humidity and uncomfortableness. It’s usually nice all year round. 😎

The main reason for higher prices along with tourist areas, is the distances goods have to travel from farms and other manufacturers. If you have a look at a satellite weather picture, you will see most of the green areas are around the coast. We live in a sunburnt country of droughts and flooding rains, to quote a famous poet. Droughts put prices up, and farmers can go broke and lose their farms. Then we have bushfires, cyclones and flooding to deal with at times. Sensible precautions keep most of us perfectly safe though. Some of our cities have a "higher cost of living" than others, A lot of tourists ask how far are you from your capital city. In Cairns, North Queensland, Brisbane is two days driving away, which is only halfway down our east coast. We don't all remember the number of kilometres that involves. British people I talked to over there had a bit of trouble taking that info in, as London is a few hours from Edinburgh, which is nearly at the other end of their country. Enjoy your stay.

That is some expensive a Thai..Perhaps it’s because there is not much competition in terms of Thai restaurants,and a combination of above national average wages? Canberra is expensive as well if you want to go out and eat a decent meal . At one particular Thai restaurant(in the city centre) I paid $24 for a small bowl of Tom Yum Goong soup!

As an Aussie I agree with the 'expense ' observations. We are extremely expensive with general groceries, eating out etc. But to compensate we receive high wages, superannuation on top of our wages and excellent working conditions. Plus we dont do gratuity here. I do feel sorry for tourists, it must be like daylight robbery.

I have the a6500! Love how the a6400 has the flip screen.. Im holding out for the rumored a7000 that might have 4k at 60p...which I really need in my life!!! Have you tried to stabilize the footage with your video editor? I like to shot in 60p or 120p...because you can slow it down and take out the jitters in most shots...especially when you combine it with your video editors stabilization.
@ChatGayPT

Yeah stabilizing in fcp helps if there’s a little shake but a lot of shake produces weird results. I’ve been shooting in 4K but should probably go back to 1080 and higher FPS. No one needs to see all my imperfections in super HD anyway 😅
