Hi Guys,
This is the second video in a mini series showing my recovery
following arthroscopic surgery on the meniscus in my left knee.
I was 60 yrs old when it took place.
I'm hoping that it will be a useful and reassuring resource for anyone who has undergone meniscus arthroscopic knee surgery and wants to see how long it takes to recover movement, functionality muscle size and strength.
If you've any questions on video content please feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer.
Big shout out to my surgeon Enrique Saveedra 👍

Thank you Denise. Yes the recovery’s been far quicker than I expected. Back to doing everything from before and more. My surgeon puts it down to my pre-hab routine as well as the rehab I’ve done.

Yeah, nice work there, Mark. Are you taking any collagen supps for your connecting tissue? Not sure if this would help the cartilage but surely wouldn't hurt? I had meniscus surgery back in the 90's and I was surprised at how quickly I could get full range of movement back again. I can only imagine 21st century medicine has improved on that. Good luck with the rehab...

Thanks Paul. To answer your question some years ago when this initially started I used to regularly take glucosamine sulphate with chondroitin. At the time I thought I noticed some difference in healing outcomes. But thereafter it was intermittent in its effectiveness. I strongly suggest now it was more placebo than anything else as there haven't been any conclusive medical studies that support its use medically. At the best of times cartilage is difficult to heal and as we age the blood supply to these areas diminishes and the collagen in our joints deteriorates which makes healing even more difficult. One thing I have been looking at is the use of hyperbaric chambers to speed up the healing process, for which there is good evidence for improved healing outcomes. However it is rather expensive 😉. Thanks for your input

Was it a surgery where they remove a piece of the meniscus or where they suture the meniscus? Because the recovery is not the same, with the suture it takes much longer .... I have been through a meniscius surgery two months ago and a distal biceps tendon rupture 3 weeks ago. Thanxs for your videos.

Hi Gaston, thank you for your comment and pointing out the difference between the two procedures. My procedure ,as I believe explained in my first video, was to trim the two torn meniscus. I don't believe sutures were involved. I also have had a full biceps tendon rupture and that took a good 8 months to fully recover
