The lighting, camera movements, doggo barking, it all just makes it feel like we are sitting in the same room chatting like friends and I love it! Also, I love your mini sock ornament. I made mini ornament sized versions of all my projects this year so now I have a whole garland of mini versions of everything I've made and it is so fun to have hanging on my wall!
Denise I love your podcasts because you are so REAL mistakes and all! In today's episode the mistakes were a great learning tool for me. The winding and caking was a great tutorial for me. I'm a crocheter and crochet as I watch. We have coffee and yarn time together ❤🧶
Good Morning Denise! Your light and Joy shines through! Thank you for sharing all the tips and memories with us! Have an amazing week ahead and chat next week😊🌲🎄
Ohmygoodness! I was getting ready to head to bed and saw your new video, and here I sit at 1 am 😂. Your smile, enthusiasm and kindness shines through and warms the heart! Thank you for sharing your time, knowledge and joy of knitting with us all! ❤. I hope you have an amazing week! ps I LOVED Mr Magoo’s Christmas Carol 😊
Good afternoon Denise, I just felt I needed to take the time out to tell you how grateful I am for you and your knitting podcast. You have such an amazing light that shines bright. You like what you do and I’m grateful that you’re so willing to share your knowledge, and experiences ❤❤❤with us. Thank you so much and have a happy holiday
Denise… you should know that you come up in my local knitting group regularly. Several of us swear by your way of teaching socks and other techniques.. and the words I hear often are: best videos, so clear, my go-to! Love your gentle approach, gratitude focus and overall presentation- every time. Thank you. You be you - YES!!!!
I am amazed how much really useful information you packed into such a short time! And I truly appreciate you not making it a slick video-it actually helps to see mistakes and how to fix them so I can figure out when I make them. And it feels more like you're a fun neighbor knitting and chatting over a cup of tea. Much appreciation for your authentic self and wealth of experience and knowledge. Happy Holidays!❤
Denise, that flip-flopping those two stitches is INGENIOUS! I knit my socks toe-up and have to make that first knit stitch tight so there's no hole. Your method is allows less stress for tiny knitting. Thanks 🥰
For me, I'd much rather sit down with a friend (flaws and all) than with a celebrity, who has writers and editors galore who make sure their videos are perfect. I don't remember bedtime during my childhood, but I remember my mom and brothers ALWAYS sitting down to watch the Christmas specials together. A tradition my husband never participated in, but one I always did with our kids. Mr. Magoo's Christmas carol was always a favorite-I can still remember some of the songs. Thank you for this memory ❤
The collective 'we' thank YOU for putting your time and happy energy into making this for our viewing pleasure. Born to be real, not perfect is my mantra now! Thanks for sharing the tutorials. Loved meeting your pup.
I look forward to watching every one or your podcast because you are real and know that real people/followers are watching and learning from you. I love that I feel like a friend of yours. 😊
Can’t tell you how many times I’ve made the same mistake making yarn cakes and starting with the wrong end- you gave me flashbacks! And reminded me of so many memories watching the same Xmas cartoons as a kid (kiddo of the 70’s here). I almost forgot about Mr. Magoo. Thanks for sharing!
I think this is what I love the most, how your tutorials are always real, honest and showing how things are done while explaining everything and showing mistakes if they happen. Thank you so much! I am going to try to wind my yarn twice now! I also always use a yarn cozy (from knittynatty) which really helps to prevent tangling in the end
Aww, thank you SO MUCH!! I think it's important to show the good and the not so good. You know, I've never tried a yarn cozy...might have to change that!!! Thanks for sharing that with us!!!
Thank you for showing us how to use a sock ruler and how you wind your skeins into cakes, but most of all thank you for showing us it's ok to not be perfect. We are human, we make mistakes! ❤💚
This was a wonderful episode. Thank you for just being you. It feels like we're enjoying an afternoon knitting together in the same room. I truly like you knitting in real time.
Fezziwig and Razzleberry socks!!! Now I need to go back and watch those classics over again! LOVE your passion for knitting and the knitting community. Thank you so much for all of the time you put into the videos, tutorials, editing, etc. I’m a self-taught knitter, as my Nana passed away before I learned to knit and no one else in our family knits (I’m the only one who took it up), so these tutorials are everything to a visual learner, self-taught knitter. Happy Holidays!!
Oh. My Word!! Mr. Magoo!! 😳He is our favorite! 😂🤣 Jim has eyesight that isn't so great & he really relates! In fact the other day driving home on the Interstate, he says "Roadhog!!" 🤣😂We laughed all the way home! When we go past the construction we talked about how he would have a blast driving in this zone!! We watch it every Christmas too! We love that nothing stops him & he never quits! Inspiration!!🧡
Enjoyed spending some time with you today as I put together a photo collage. The tutorials were super helpful!! I hope that the holiday season is fillers with moments that bring you joy!!
Thank you for the video and reminding me of my favorite Christmas movie A Christmas Carol with "Tiny Tim." I learned so much from the tutorials. Enjoy your time with your sister.
Thank you so much Denise for sharing your memories 😊 my mother was just like yours and we had a bedtime but at weekends we could stay up an extra half hour aww happy days. Loved this episode so much 🥰🥰🥰
Your yarn advent is so perfectly you! It’s so earthy! We don’t want you perfect- we just want you as you are! Thanks for all the info you shared, I suspect next week will be fudge time! 😊❤
Mr. Fezziwig is my hero in the Christmas Carol story. We like the George C Scott version, and I love how Fezziwig shuts everything down, puts away business and busyness and makes time to enjoy Christmas joy. Now I plan better and rush early so that once my family gets here I can put busyness aside and enjoy Christmas joy. I'm really enjoying your vlogmas schedule! Your joy is contagious. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Enjoyed the video and tutorials, even though I am currently in the camp of why so much winding. I have learned through knitting that you never know when you're going to need a skill until you do. Now I have a just in case resource.
Hello there! Thanks for your tutorials I know how to do them, but it was so satisfying watching you wind yarn. It was great that you didn’t cut out your mistake, because we wouldn’t feel so insecure when we make a mistake. December and Christmas IS hard for me because both parents are gone now and Dad passed away 2 days after Christmas. Watching all you podcasters doing blog as brings some joy and peace to me. Thanks so much to you and God bless you!😊
A template! That's such a great idea!!!! Now I want to have one for all the adults in the family. I am working on a pair of socks for my sister too and they were huge but I ripped it back today and restarted. Thank you so much for these tips.
Loved it all,,denise,,,,!!! What a difference in a twice wound cake!!!never knew,,, ! And loved every tutorial,,,Always,,Always ways Learn from you,,, Love Socks!!!! My parents sound the same as Urs,,,my sister and I had hot milk,,,,Too,,alwayslwaysnd watched all those cartoons,,,!!! Wonderful memories,,,,!!! Elaine 🏘🎄
I love that you’re a “sap”. I am too! 😂😂 What a great episode. I’m sitting here all smiles, and in the best mood! I’m thinking about the shirt quote “I’m not perfect, but I’m real.” It’s so true. Nobody’s perfect! And sometimes we can get bogged down, especially at this time of year, after looking at all the social media posts of everyone with their perfect families, perfect decorations, perfect gifts, etc., etc. But nobody’s perfect. Even those perfect images probably have loads of laundry piled just off camera, dishes undone, or other imperfect things. Lol, I think we all need to remember this and give each other some grace and kindness. Thanks for the reminder! Looking forward to seeing you again next week. By the way, the socks are amazing! I love Mr. Magoo, and all the other Christmas specials you watched. My brother and I also watched them. You brought back great memories for me.❤ ADORABLE DOGGO!! 🥰
Denise I tune in because you are calm and real. I appreciate that. The challenge in matching socks sometimes is I can't find the match place. I may have to unwind a lot from the second cake to find it. This always happens in commercial sock yarns for me. My socks MUST match. I am bugged if they don't! Bless you in this Christmas season.
Denise - thank you so much for your generosity and sharing your knowledge and love of knitting and people. I got my brave on and split up a yarn cake and now I have a super cutie patootie sock. I'd love to show you sometime 😊. Thanks for showing simple things can make a difference ❤🧶
Thank you so much for the tutorials, will attempt the little sock!! Your puppy is so adorable!! Thanks for showing him to us. Great story about your childhood. I love stories like that. See you next Sunday. Take care.
You helped me solve a problem I was having! I began the Woolens and Nosh Christmas advent (so excited to have this!!!), but after the 9th day, I realized my sock was way too tight. I didn't want to spoil the coming colors, so I started a new center pull ball from my frogged stripes using your idea of making a new ball from the ball you were already knitting on. You are fabulous, Denise! Thank you!!
WOW Denise!!! This episode was a grand slam! Chock full of information I didn't know I needed. I don't knit afterthought heels but it's good to know how to wind up a gobstopper. I am going to follow Jen on Instagram, the sock ornament is adorable! I love how you keep your channel real - we need more real people in the world. Finally, your hair looks beautiful and I love you in the white sweater.
Hi Denise, what a great Vlogmas episode and thank you so much. I love the idea of including tutorials and since you are a wonderful teacher it is very natural. How fantastic that you get together with your sister and your parents so often. I imagine there is a lot of laughter 😀 Have a wonderful week! Susannah
Hi there, Thanks so much!! And did you know that you WON the giveaway prize. I"ve been waiting to hear from you and get your contact information to send it out!!! Please email me at earthtonesgirl@gmail.com CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
Thank you for all this great info! I always learn something with you! Thank you for sharing your beautiful childhood memories with us! It was very touching! Your puppy is adorable too! Have a fantastic week! 🙂
Oh, the Charlie Brown Christmas… 😂!!!! The yarn ball trick while knitting a project. I literally did this technique last week. I wish I had seen your video beforehand because it was very entertaining with some creative cussing. 😂😂😂😂I have learned my lesson and now have a full proof way of doing this technique.
Thanks so very much for the fabulous tutorials. You rock! I’ve been knitting for years but I love to learn new and different methods to do things. I look forward to your continuing RU-vid episodes!! ❤️🧶
Denise thank you so much for all the tutorials. I’m glad that you made an error because I made that mistake, I find it confusing. so I took notes and I will save it for the next time. I was laughing and laughing when you shared about being in bed at 8 PM. That’s what I did to my daughter and my son and yes at that time they had dispensation at Christmas time to watch the special :) on the regular tv :)
Hello Denise, we all love you and know you are not a professional film maker, tv producers, lighting or sound engineer, so please don't apologize for just being a regular human being having a human experience and sharing that experience with us out in social media land. You are providing free content we enjoy watching, like old time TV use to be (I'm dating myself). It's a joy to see you are enjoying Vlogmas. Have an AWESOME day!
Hi Denise, I think your podcasts are very real. You are so down to earth it’s a pleasure to watch you. I’ve learned so much from you. You’ve also taught me that it’s ok to make mistakes which is a good thing because my knitting is never perfect.
What a great episode Denise! 🧶🧶🥰🥰🥰 Keeping it real is so important and some folks would edit out the mistakes but we learn from those as well, so good on you to keep them in! Have a wonderful holiday season.
Omg! Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol was my favorite! (You seem way too young for Magoo😊) when my kids were kids we found a copy somewhere and had them watch it. They loved it and have the razzleberry dressing stuck in their heads for life! Great tutorials!
I wind the yarn twice when I use a swift to go from a Hank to a cake otherwise it’s too tight and unfluffy 😜 (That’s a lovely Christmas yarn btw.) Will be a treat to see you every week this month. 😊
Denise, I loved your latest Vlogmas! You talked about this on your video so I hope it’s ok to mention a little tidbit I learned? I just got back into knitting about a year ago and was frustrated that my yarn twisted during knitting even after being wound on the winder. It made me crazy and I wondered what I was doing wrong. After much searching, I came across Master Knitter Roxanne Richardson’s channel and she explained the reason we might want to wind the yarn twice is because that’s how we get the twist OUT of the yarn. She explained that for every revolution in the winding process, your yarn twists once. When you wind the second time you are undoing that extra twist and that’s why the cake comes out bigger the second time and it works!! I just knitted your Soxploration pattern and my yarn never twisted! I was so excited. Her episode is called “Don’t Get Twisted Up”. I hope it’s ok to share that info and I’m not breaking any etiquette? I’m old and not very good with this social media stuff so if I’m not supposed to reference someone else, please forgive me. My heart’s in the right place. I just thought some of you might have the same problem I did and would be thrilled as well. Thanks for all your beautiful and classy videos, Denise. I watch every post and have learned so much from you. Happy Holidays to you and yours!
Mr Magoo's Christmas Carol!!! My brother adored Mr. Magoo and would laugh and laugh over his antics. Thank you for being you - I so enjoy your videos and love your laugh, your warmth and of course, all the wonderful information on sock knitting. I have a question - you said to start toe decreases when you are 2' shy of the end of the foot. I have always heard that it was supposed to be 1.75' shy of the end of the sock and to knit until your sock just covers your little toe. I think 2' would be easier to judge, so I want to try that on my next socks. Thank Denise for your wonderfully fun Vlogmas videos - looking forward to the next one!
Thanks for a great episode again!! The tutorials were awesome and I just might have to try double winding my sock yarn. You gave me something to really think about. I love the dog. My baby girl is a beagle and when I am at home she is my postage stamp😁 looking forward to next Sunday.
What a great episode to wake up to! Nepo coordinates with your sweater. Love a furry friend cameo. Many thanks for the real-life tutorials. I learned how to use a swift and ball winder from you, so I always double wind 😊. Once, I forgot about it and tried to eyeball half a skein. Got my scale out and was so wrong. Luckily, I didn't break the yarn. A suggestion for those missing you ... I go back and binge watch your previous vlogmas series. It's like having a chat with a yarny friend. Til next episode. Take care and happy holidays.
Hi, Denise! I love your videos! You have such a gentle voice, and a sweet attitude. I saw Jen Yard's teeny tiny socks and can't wait to make them with your loop.
Thank you so much for this video! I also want to have a RU-vid channel podcast but I get too much into my head with doubts. Your words have shown that it is ok not to be perfect.
Love, love love this episode. A Christmas Carol is my favorite Christmas movie. I’ve watched so many different versions over the years and of course have watched it already this year. I ordered Mr. Fezziwig because I really like the 90/10 targhee-nylon base. I’m glad I got to see how it knits up. Thank you! Happy holidays to you and yours.
Aww, thank you so much for watching!!! I have to catch up on my Christmas movies this year. I'm so behind!! And YAY!! I'm so glad you got a skein of Mr. Fezziwig!! Enjoy every stitch!! Happy Holidays to you and yours as well.
Some great tips there Denise. Now I understand why your yarn always looks so plump while you’re knitting. I’m definitely going to try winding twice. Your puppy is so sweet. I remember when you got him. Off topic here, but I wonder if you have a solution for this… I really enjoy knitting a Dutch Heel Turn. However, there is always that sort of enlarged stitch at the edge. I’ve tried everything I can think of to avoid this, such as not slipping sts, tightening, not tightening, twisting sts, knitting thru back loop, sl1k1PSSO etc. I can see it’s the second stitch in, and not the edge stitch. It bugs me, but do I just learn to live with it? I’ve searched google, and no one else seems to comment on this or have an issue with it. I’d love to hear your thoughts. 🤎
I know I commented an hour ago with a question about your ring but I just have to put a note out again to you that I am so thrilled that I found your vlogmas! You are like a breath of fresh air and I could watch your tutorials and listen to you as often as you put a new film out! You are so down to earth and I love the way you talk about your family. You're very lucky to have them close by.😊
